Joe Frazier Interview - 1967 with Jerry Quarry

I am re-posting since the previous upload seems to be messed up...and out of sync. Great (lost) footage of Joe, Quarry & Patterson.
Rare outtakes and B-roll material (16mm film) that has been exclusively archived by Footage World. Some material as-is, but very interesting and important to preserve.

Frazier was nowhere near his prime in 67. The first sign of a "prime" Frazier was the Ellis fight. He wasn't even known to have a great left hook before that fight.
@lwmson
@lwmson 4 года назад
@@jonalberts980 Well, Ali's prime was the late 60's, his exile years, and I know had they squared off in '69, the year Joe fought Ellis, Ali would have been victorious.
@jonalberts980
@jonalberts980 4 года назад
@@lwmson Though I think Ali would have been victorious, Frazier was still more than a year from his best fight which was against Ali. He got exponentially better every year between his debut and March 8th, 1971. He was one of the greats, and I don't think any version of Ali would have dominated Frazier when he fought like he did that night.

A bygone era even if you were in your 20s at this time you’re in you’re late 70s and eighties today just think how many ppl that were alive in 1967 which would be billions across the world at the time are mostly dead in 2023.. It's hard to believe heavyweights used weigh in at 193 pounds.In the last thirty or forty years a guy like George Foreman went from being considered a giant to an average or even below average sized heavyweight,

@MUFC I was always bored by soccer. Never watched any match during entire life. Can watch it like 2-3 minutes than I'm bored. On the other hand, I watched hundreds boxing matches. Once, I used to watch hockey matches, but I've stopped years ago. For me, soccer is one of the less entertaining sport, and most boring one (maybe even golf is more exciting). I watched also Sumo matches, it's more interesting than soccer. Even NBA is little more entertaining, although I didnt watch too many matches. Maybe 20 in my life. What to say... I don't care... just take your "perfect number 1 soccer" out of this planet. I won't notice any differance.

I like both Frazier and Quarry. They had all the heart in the world. Although Frazier out slugged Quarry, Quarry destroyed Shavers and Mac Foster and outpointed Ron Lyle. @@shaynelahmed6323 there's no need to disparage either guy, both dead but both great fighters. Boxing in the 70s wouldn't be the same without Frazier, Ali or Foreman. The guys right below them as well were great fighters like quarry, chuvalo, bonavena, Norton, young, shavers, Lyle. Most of these fighters are gone now but just those names alone off the top of my head. Heavyweight boxing has never been the same since those days. Rip to those who have passed. This is the first time that I ever saw Floyd Patterson and Joe Frazier together, and It made me wonder what would have happened if the two squared off against each other in a bout. Joe was great, but I do think Floyd could have defeated him. Floyd was VERY underrated and although he was annihilated by bigger heavyweights like Liston and Ali, Frazier was much smaller and only about 10 pounds heavier than Floyd. I think that Floyd's technical skills in boxing would have superseded Joe's punching power, enabling him to win a decision over Smokin' Joe.

Joe Frazier never fought a well-conditioned athlete until he fought Muhammad Ali. But Joe Frazier didn't become heavyweight champion the the right way. Meaning he waited (years went by ) Ali went through his prime.. as Frazier got the belt. Frazier didn't take the belt from Ali. At the time Ali was champion Joe didn't fight Ali. So Joe was just a champion on paper. After Ali's last defense which I believe was Zora Foly, he then never went to Joe for his next title defense. If so I believe Joe Frasier would not have had a chance.Ali was just to quick and would have been in his best prime.Rather Ali fought Joe 4 years later and he's still couldn't stop Ali. Also there was no losers in the first Ali Frazier fight. A few judges decisions that favored Joe is not a true loss. Also it was better for Ali to go on to beat Joe Frazier in the second ,than stop Joe in the third fight(which is something Joe Frazier couldn't do, (meaning through the Frazier and Ali fights, Ali was the only one who stopped the other man truly. Joe didn't answer the bell for the 15th round in Manila.Also Ali took the belt away from the man who took the belt away from Frasier.. Forman.When Joe Frazier fought Ali for the second and third time, Joe stepped into the ring not being champ of the world.When he stepped back into the ring with Ali after there first fight, he was fighting Ali.. who was now champ of the world .Forman destroyed Frazier twice., And Ali destroyed the man who destroyed .Frasier. Ali did to Foreman what forman did to Fraser. Ali ko'd Foreman. That is how you know who the real champion was. But a few judges that favored Fraser in the first fight is not a real loss. Especially with the way Ali fought Frazier( it was so close )that really you could say Ali beat Frazier three times. But even saying Frasier won because of a few judges decisions ,..to me that's really not a loss. Like I said Ali it was the only man to really serve The losses. So it's just looking at the truth inside of all the red tape and paperwork and b.s. you see who the real champ is and see how Ali did miracles in the ring.Ali never hid behind paperwork, and all that other stuff. Yes Frasier was a great fighter, it's just when Ali beat somebody he really Won!
