Man, I dunno. Seeing Joe play by himself just upsets my heart. And the write up on this performance on HITS is just shattering to me. I miss Tally Hall so much and it's just kind of a bummer to see them actually like... Not together. Playing their songs but not all together. It's cathartic and nostalgic and sad. :(
It is kind of sad seeing Joe play Tally Hall songs by himself and thinking that the band might never really be back together. But at the same time, we're lucky to have had lots of new music from the guys since Good & Evil--just not exactly as Tally Hall. Joe just posted a new song the other day to people who donated to his Pledge campaign, and it was catchy and hilarious. It definitely made me feel better. :)
For sure, I'm always grateful for new music. And it's all really good, so I'm content. But ESPECIALLY with this song, it brings me back to following the band on their tour, keeping up with Boralogues and seeing them live. I just love 'em and I miss 'em.
@@Blue-eb5pzWell I mean, he was wrapping up the set with Variations on a Cloud, so really it could be just as simple as him saying alright, almost done, one more song, yknow?
everything about this breaks me. -the fact that there are other mics and a drumset and a keyboard for the other members -the fact that some of the others were supposed to be there but it didnt work out -the fact that theres nobody singing along -the fact that hes obviously on the verge of tears -the really quiet "never again" and then the "uh" at the end genuinely cannot feel good after seeing this. makes me so fucking sad. you can tell he misses the band
That's why it was so quiet. He was about to start crying and couldn't finish the song like that, so he said never again very quietly to mask his sadness (at least I think)
You can hear the sadness in his voice that he is playing all along, in between some parts when he doesnt' sing you can see he's holding back the tears. It's just sad to see that he is almost the only one who still keeps the band alive and make sure people would remember it.
In the studio version there is a vocal effect put on Joe's voice to make it sound like he is singing through tears. Here he actually is singing through tears.
@@KillerMoth_Stumpy This was about 7 and a half years ago, Tally Hall split up in 2011 after their Good & Evil tour, so that's a good 6 years since they split. The person playing in the video is Joe Hawley or as you'd know him Red Tie. The sadness comes from the fact that this song is about a lot of things, but specifically how it can be a real struggle to find a sense of purpose or meaning in life, and how frustrating it can be to grasp with that. It's interesting to me that he'd still been performing after that time, and I think it's a really brave thing to put himself out there and continue singing the songs he has such fond memories off.
@@KillerMoth_StumpyI’ll try to explain, basically the band went on hiatus over 10 years ago, and never yk came back, all the band members went and did their own thing, Zubin became a doctor, got married and had kids, rob is doing music for films/shows and stuff (mainly Disney lol), he also got married and I’m pretty sure he also has at least one child, Ross became a microbiologist (I think that’s what it is) and got married and has at least one child, Andrew made some piano music but idk what he’s doing rn, Joe made an album under his name (first it was released backwards due to legal issues and was then put back fowards) and an album under “miracle musical” called Hawaii part ii. Joe is also known to be in a bad mental state atm, a friend of his said he thinks he has schizophrenia but there’s no official diagnosis, however it would explain A LOT of his behaviour/mannerisms/music. Ppl are sad cuz we know he’s not doing well, and Joe seems to rlly miss the band so like 😭😭😭😭 uh yeah I hope I helped lol
@@playgroundsinc Yes, I realize. Sorry if my reply feels a bit passive aggressive. I was going through the 50 stages of grief in the span of a couple hours, and as you can imagine, was tiring. But yes, I realize you were, I was feeling a lil stormy myself
he looked so sad + that song is already sad + no one else showed up + the fact that he just kinda set up everything for them anyways = me sobbing over tally hall agAin
the little “uhhh” at the end after ‘never again’........ this physically made my heart ache. (but! don’t lose hope yet. joe seems eager to reunite everyone for another album and last year he said he thinks they will tour again eventually. some of the others have mentioned a 3rd album as well, nothing is confirmed yet so don’t hold me to this but i don’t think it’s out of the question that we *might* see a tally hall return in the next few years)
This band is so slept on it’s so unfair their music is actually amazing and so different to anything I’ve ever heared before and yet nobody knows what it is!!!
@Not My problem like singing Hawaiian music in clown paint and not putting a sentence in his bio to make people feel comfortable with themselves. People are strange.
@Not My problem Yeah he has nervous sczrophrenia so perhaps some of that bad stuff came from that, other parts of Tally Hall said he didnt know and was a little confused on things.
I remember binging all their songs when I got home from school, those were some dark years, but I just felt like I could connect to their songs. Its just sad to realize this might be the end of tally hall
This performance and the rest of his set at Sonic Lunch always gets me feeling really sad, because it seems like he really wants Tally Hall to get back together, like how everyone except Zubin, I believe, worked on Hawaii Part ii (even though Zubin helped with Rotary Park), and one of them said they were working out sleeping arrangements for Album 3 on social media not too long ago. The main problem is that everyone's got their own things going on, but I really hope it works out and we see a reunion.
wait just out of curiosity do you remember who said it + where they said they were arranging album 3 ?? i remember joe & andrew talked about it last summer but i didn’t know one of them mentioned it again this year, that gives me some hope :,)
no zubin did the vocals for White Ball-even then i agree they were always much better as a group than individual parts. I don't think a reunion won't happen this year for...obvious reasons.
Tally Hall deserves a much better fate than this! Just one guy left, playing to a crowd that doesn't even applaud...Tally Hall was an incredible band that deserves much more recognition.
there was one video i saw of him doing the bidding at sonic lunch as well, what kills me is that it was a much sadder version, and the person recording just walks away in the middle of it
Ok. Mom’s gonna come in here with some adult talk. Buckle up. Pedophilia is a psychiatric disorder characterized by sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children (think 12 and under). He associated with two teenagers from ages 16-19. By the evidence through the doc, the worst he can be accused of is being inappropriately suggestive and saying stuff that was really rude (inappropriate questions, slurs, deadnaming, emotional manipulation…undeniably mean, but not illegal). Grooming is defined as building a relationship with someone vulnerable for the purpose of exploiting them. IMO the doc didn’t lead to a reasonable conclusion that was his intent. It did, however, do a quietly good job showing erratic thought and behavior patterns of a guy who very likely has a primary psychosis- some people close to him have implied untreated schizophrenia. As for pedophile? Absolutely not. I really wish kids understood how heavy that accusation is, and how unwarranted it is in this circumstance. Does this excuse his actions? We don’t know. Some people may want to believe that he knew what he was doing [he’s the adult, he knows better, they were just kids, etc]. I’m not convinced. Schizophrenia, untreated, will cause literal alterations to the physical brain structure and composition. Including prefrontal damage- the part of the brain that does short-term memory and decision making. This is all speculation and ultimately is none of our business, but since you asked, I’m putting my thoughts out there. Everybody involved in that situation made some questionable choices. The end. Bottom line, he’s not well, leave him alone. According to the writers, that was the purpose of the doc and once it was addressed by Andrew, they took it down bc they felt the purpose was fulfilled. To me, his art is still incredible, Tally Hall made awesome music, and being kind to everyone is always the right answer. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. 💕 (This is not my writing, i found it on reddit. Creds to TheSillyGooseCometh)
I find it in very bad taste that people accuse him of being a pedophile... I agree that it is definitely REALLY strange that he was talking to such... young girls, considering his age, but at no time did he maintain a relationship or connection with them. I hope Joe manages to improve and is well now.
well i guess??? Its would be understandable if it was like a 19 year old dating a 17 year old but a 41 year old "associating" (unsure what you mean by that) with a 16 year old is still really icky 😰😰
@@corinasbetancourt it all feels like one big game of telephone. i was talking to my friend about tally hall and sent some pics, and she immediately took a liking to joe's looks lol, so i sent a few more. her other friend saw one of the pictures and said he was rapist, which she then asked me about. and i had to clarify no, he isn't, and where the fuck did your friend even get that from? if i wasn't there to refute it she would've just. continued on thinking he had done that because people can't even get the info right/don't bother double checking before claiming it as truth. it's crazy
Please don’t talk about this, on a video like this it is not appropriate whatsoever and makes me (and some other people) uncomfortable. Please take this post down
im crying rn. its so sad seeing him up there singing all alone. i dont think theyll ever come back from their hiatus, but theres always hope. i hope theyre doing well and wish the best for them❤
Aye, buddy, y’never know... I mean, didn’t it take a long time for ‘Good & Evil’ to release after the rererelease of ‘Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum’? ...Maybe Tally Hall’s just a depressingly slow band....
I hate that you can barely hear his guitar because he needs recordings of the music or the band playing it. Recently I saw a video where there were two drawings. One of the whole band in ties singing “We have so much left to sing” and then the camera basically pans down. When it raises back up, it’s just Joe singing “There’s a storm for every spring” and the music after that fades out. The camera backs up to reveal all the other instruments for them. A whole band of instruments and yet one is being used. I watch this video early in the morning so I get a punch by reality that we probably aren’t gonna get another Tally Hall album. But that isn’t our decision, if the is a new album, they have to make that decision. It’s up to the fate of them, and the fate of the stars. We’re never meant to know. Only time will tell.
@@introduction-to-the-snow I believe it's *"We had so much left to sing.."* by *Sad Scruffy* , sadly I can't directly send you the link because RU-vid would just delete my comment.
Cormorant Colors it’s beautiful, but it hurts a lot when you think about how much joe was hurting. he said he wrote it about a girl he dated who really messed up his mental health. :(
@@PurpleLover101yeah, zubin was pretty clearly joking in the wrapped vid. it's very on brand for tally hall's humor to randomly demand 8x their current streams for a band that hasn't had a release in over a decade, then nonchalantly say "and then we'll be back" with zero elaboration
He just needs a hug from rob, Andrew, Ross, zubin and bora. I hope that everyone just drops the controversy and lets this man enjoy his life, cause he’s clearly not right now
YALL MY “DAD” SAYS THAT THIS ISNT SAD AND THAT HES JUST A BAD SINGER WHAT DO I DO?!?!? Edit: sorry 4 any confusion lmao i just added “” as a joke!! He is my dad lol
This is generally so sad, now I don’t usually cry but this made me tear up. I’m now crying due to this, seeing Joe up there singing. While you can clearly tell he’s crying, just breaks my heart. I still hope the band somehow get back together.
As sad as it is to see the band apart, all their solo stuff always has them collaborating with each other in at least one song for each member, and they’re all really good. In fact, I’d say Hawley’s Hawaii Part ii is better than Marvin’s Marvelous Mechancial Museum.
Nowaha Gotta disagree with you there. I mean it’s been 2 years since I left this comment and I’m not obsessed with Tally Hall like I used to be. Honestly, I hardly listen to their main 2 albums as a band. But I still love Hawaii Part ii, and most of the stuff that use to grate on me grew on me a lot. I’d still say that’s their best project (with Sketches 3D by Edu in 2nd place).
I'm not here to support him but seriously he needs help i know he's mentally unstable and he made some really bad stuff but please don't make death threats about him or interact him and don't interact him for a while and i hope he becames a better person and mentally okay after this recent horrible event
And also I'm not here to make a excuse about Joe Hawley but the creators of the Joe hawley doc said it is okay to listen to Joe Hawley's songs and of course seperate the art from the artist and theres a lot of members from tally hall you can support.
Exactly-I’m not DEFENDING him, but people need to recognize that this is a man who seriously needs help. Attacking him viciously doesn’t help the situation.
everyone else went on their lifes, but he still held on to the band after it, I can't forgive him for what he did, but I hope he's getting some mental help....
I SAW THAT "Joe is all alone" VIDEO AND I JUST FEEL SO BAD FOR HIM BC YOU CAN LITERALLY HEAR THE SADNESS IN HIS VOICE. BRO IS SO SAD AND LONELY AND CLEARLY JUST ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE WITHOUT THE OTHER TALLIES THERE. AND HE USED TO BE SUCH A GOOFY SILLY FUN BRIGHT HAPPY GUY AND SUCH A CREATIVE SONGWRITING GENUIS BUT NOW HES JUST ALL ALONE WITH THE MENTAL HEALTH, DRUGS, BAD DESCIONS THAT WE MIGHT NOT EVEN BE FULLY RIGHT ABOUT (not discrediting anyone btw, just leaving room for my inevitable mistakes) THAT, WHILE THAT DOESNT EXCUSE HIS ACTIONS, JUST LEFT HIM SOURED IN THE PUBLIC EYE...AND THEN THE PEOPLE WHO DOX HIM, SPREAD RUMORS AND IMPERSONATE HIM...AND JUST GENUIALLY BUGGING HIM ALL OVER THE PLACE WITH "IS TALLY HALL GONNA GET BACK TOGETHER?? ARE YOU GONNA GET BACK TOGETHER PLSSS???" I MEAN, YEAH, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME BUT JUST...POOR JOE, I JUST WANNA GIVE HIM A BIG HUG, I REALLY REALLY HOPE HE'S GETTING THE HELP HE NEEDS AND GETS BETTER
This is a sad video, but I gotta say that Joe's got some wiggly eyebrows. I never noticed it before, when he's singing the last part, his eyebrows are wiggling around. Kinda funky. Also, it's really sad he doesn't have his tie. He put on the shirt, but not the tie.
I was about the cry when he was playing the entire time... then the little "Uhh" fucking got me so much after the "Never again" its too early for this..
Quite the predicament Joe Hawley has gotten himself into. He’s done things that shouldn’t just be forgiven but this is truly upsetting to see him alone on this stage. I can only hope he gets proper help in the near future
The fact that this happened AFTER Hawaii PT. II means that this was FAR after the seperation, he misses them so much but all the drama with him holds him back from what he wants also, he is singing this not to make a good song, but to just do what he wants..though unfortunately failing at joy because the main joy was the people with him, not the music I just want to also say that at 2:35 he genuinly looks like he's about to start crying, but keeps his composure and cuts himself off with the "uh.."
I will be sincere, I didn't cry with this, but I just feel like a piece of shit for not doing it, god I just want this band to return, I only know who they are for a freaking meme, but gosh I want them back
While it may be sad, and we miss tally hall we should realise that nothing good lasts forever and we should just be absolutely ecstatic that it happened.
I thought i was rid of my ability to cry. Apparently not. This is heartbreaking, the other instruments are set up, you can HEAR the voice cracks, you can tell that he's devastated. The nervous and sad "Uhh." After the "Never again." Just made this even worse. Im bawling rn, you can tell how much he misses them :(
I've barely even listened to many of the band's songs, aside from the Hawaii Part II album but that might not count, but I've heard this song and man am I tearing up at this version. Poor guy looks so sad. I hope he and the rest of the band members are doing ok.
