Favorite album overall, “So Near, So Far”. As for Henderson tone, it’s funny, on the one hand, it is certainly unique, as is his overall sound, but it’s also a bit wheezy and squeaky, more so, I think, then he intended. I think, compared to other top-notch Sax players, Joe was a little bit less capable of a technician of the instrument. And yet he remains my favorite improviser on the instrument, he’s just SO hip, gets variety of tone, even if he does not quite get the sort of sonic effects that Coltrane, Leibman, Brecker, and Berg got.
Less capable as a technician in what respect? Large portions of Breckers language is directly credited to Joe, Mike said so himself, as well as you can obviously hear it. Agree to disagree with your opinion, sorry!
