I cried watching this great humble man just being content

I like Joe's humility, it's quite refreshing.

The mental fortitude to have held it together for 17 days as a 150-1 underdog is massive. Probably never to be seen again I’d imagine. And by all accounts a very nice, cool guy.

Joe is such a lovely man, deserves his time in the spotlight, joy to watch.

This brings back wonderful memories, also, Ronnie is a much better interviewer than interviewee. I think he just likes having a snooker chat with snooker players, rather than journalists trying to find an angle or a gotcha. Joe Johnson, what a lovely man, superb snooker player and 100% deserved Champion of the World.

What a lovely man. And the look on his wife's face when he lifted the trophy. Validation, for a lot of hard work. Couldn't happen to a better couple.

That was a genuinely life -affirming way to spend 16 or so minutes. I remember watching it live and feeling uplifted then too.

Wow !!! Joe Johnson. what a fantastic person in a enchanted era. Im 61 now and for me the 80s was the best era. Being an avid snooker player and a fan I used to watch the snooker religiously all the time. Joe defied all odds and came to really relax and enjoy himself and he produced the most amazing snooker ever. Thanks Joe for the beautiful memories !!!!

Hat's off to Steve Davis as well, after losing in 85 to Taylor, to lose again in 86, to a 150 to 1 "outsider," and to give Joe the hug (and credit) he deserved, Davis, does look genuinely happy for him, although he must have thought, this was HIS best opportunity to retake the title, he took the loss, like the true gentleman, that he is.

Wonderful interview with Ronnie putting Joe totally at ease & letting him talk. He is a lovely character & it was only a few yrs ago that I realised the northern voice & astute commentator on TV was the same Joe Johnson, whom I knew had won a World Ch'ship, so it was great to hear his story! He picks up clever play such as little canons to gain position & movement of the cue ball & clever safety. He has a gentle voice that I could listen to for hrs...

Ronnie is so relaxed, i guess because he is a Genius, that makes the person watching, really enjoy the video, Ronnie is very well suited, to being a interviewer, and i for one, will watch every interview that he does, as i really enjoy the way he goes about it. Well done, Ronnie O'Sullivan.

It is great to hear and see Joe talk about the victory with such down to earth humility. Ronnie does an excellent job of these interviews and I commend him highly for that. I spent a day with Horace Lindrum,Walter's nephew, in 1972, I can tell you that the players today have taken snooker to a whole new level. I have always wondered how good Walter would have been, had he set his mind to play snooker. Keep up the good work Ronnie, the world needs people like you.

I was there..... for the match against Mike Hallet, my friend and I were astonished that professional snooker could be so bad! Watching Joe in the final though, wow! I still meet him at events around the Bradford area occasionally and he's such a nice man to spend time with an aura of humbleness around him. He's also one of my favourite commentators.

Joe played amazing and fully deserved to win that year. In the final he got stronger as the matched progressed and you could see the belief grow with each frame. Joe looks well. What a nice man.

What a match, the memory of that is still with me.

Im too young to have watched him but I really love listening to him when he’s commentating. His knowledge of snooker is incredible. Such a gentleman and humble.

What a joy it was, and a super achievement for a great underdog. As a UK sporting moment and marvel it's not unlike Leicester winning the league. In my mind anyway.

Joe is a great lad, saw him at Kashmir curry house when on leave from the Army, he was tucking in and very merry, great for Bradford when he beat the nugget!

According to an interview published today - August 2020 - Ronnie was hospitalised with a breakdown during the 2106 championship - hushed up obviously. So it was very soon after this interview.

Back then I was a big Steve Davis fan and I cried when he lost. Strangely, when Mountjoy won, I cried with happiness. I was quite young then.

Almost as good as when he beat Stan Battye and his broomstick cue at South Elmsall in the Yorkshire Championship. Great player and top bloke. Well deserved World Snooker Champion.

I remember Joe playing in the one frame pro-am 'Invitation Snooker' series on Tyne-Tees Television as an amateur and making the then world record televised break of 141. It was amazing at the time. Scary to think it's not even a record in our small town league now, the standards are so high. When I first started there were fables of past individuals once having made a century break. When I gave up the game everyone on our club team was a hundred break player, and a couple had had total clearances.

I remember that. Amazing for Joe Johnson. He's right. Steve Davis wasn't liked back then. But what a class act Davis was then and is now. I remember watching Davis playing Steven Hendry in The Forum in Livingston when Hendry was an amateur. Davis beat Henry something like 5 frames to nil but Davis was just such a gentleman and effusive in his praise of the up and coming Hendry. How right he was.

I remember watching the final, Joe just couldn't miss, the back of the pockets were ringing that evening.

Would of liked them to talk about the following year aswell with Steve beating Joe in the final. Was incredible by Joe, beating the man that was in 7 finals in a row.

People forget Joe reached the final again a year later but Davis got his revenge. But his 1986 win is still very memorable.
