Joe Louis vs Max Schmeling II - Joe Louis defends the Heavyweight Championship of the World against Max Schmeling who defeated him two years earlier. - Their records at the time Joe Louis: Max Schmelling:
At the time, blacks were pretty much at the bottom of the race class/caste system, while white Germanic "Aryans" were at the top. For a black to defeat an "Aryan", it was a major upset for the Aryan racial superiority theory, so this was a very significant fight. Either way, Joe Louis was the greatest boxer of that era, so there's no shame in losing to the best. Unfortunately for Max, however, he ended up becoming a symbol of hate, as a representative of Nazi Germany.
"The gloves were loaded" Excuses. People who think that should watch Louis demolishing Carnera, Buddy and Max Baer and Abe Simon. Louis was just that strong.
@SuperDetroit9 Again, you are off the subject! This RU-vid insert is titled: "Joe Louis vs. Max Schmeling II - June 22, 1938." The only point I made was that Joe Louis did not cheat to win the rematch, and how ludicrous it was to make that accusation. At least 15 other people agreed. Of course there would be trolls like you with no life making racist comments - with poor punctuations. It was more than once that you made them so making it plural was necessary! lol Joe Louis lived in Detroit.
Play the video slow at 1:43 in. Schmeling's head looked like he got it with a sledge hammer! The reverb was just devastating! How he got up from that was unreal!
Joe Louis lost to Max Schmeling in 1936 in the 13th round. He then became the heavyweight champion by beating Jimmy Braddock.Joe Louis did not feel he was the champion until he fought Schmeling for the rematch. This was Louis,s only loss at the time so getting back in the ring for the rematch and knocking out Schmeling gave Joe Louis the feeling he was the world heavyweight champion. I saw on the PBS channel the Joe Louis was invited to the White House to meet with President Roosevelt
Every great boxer is of their era. It is unrealistic to compare champions of this and that time. Joe Louis was a fantastic boxer who conquered the competition with his power and skill.
@franky543 lol, no way louis had loaded gloves, except for when he was too old and onli fighting for the money, Louis had this unbelievable power all throughout his career. Thats why he is named number 1 greatest puncher of all time, over cheats like dempsey and over the roar power of foreman. The greatest pure fighter of all time
Oh yes, Joe Louis' gloves were loaded for this fight...(That was meant to be sarcastic!) Let's see, a black man in that period cheating to win, and nobody catching him? Yeah, right! Joe had a hard enough time getting the credibility he deserved. You don't think that the referees checked for that? Furthermore, if that was the case, why wouldn't Max Schmeling have said something?
@LuvThoseLadies you MEANT:"Could you please learn to utilize punctuaTION{no"s"is needed to make this word plural} "You might be able to CONVEY more CONCISELY,and also stop the running OF your sentences together as I'VE done with THIS(legnthy) reply existing in only THREE(lengthy,ill-constructed)sentences!!"
@SuperDetroit9 Can you please learn to utilize punctuations correctly? You might be able to communicate more effectively, in addition to avoiding the running your sentences together, and staying on point! Schmeling was a good fighter, and did beat Joe in the first fight - proven. Joe beat Max in the rematch - proven. In the rematch Max never complained that Joe's gloves were loaded, and he was the closest to the action! Joe didn not cheat to win the rematch - proven!
@LuvThoseLadies Since I now see that my posts' are being"GRADED",I'll try to be more adroit in my posts if that will serve to obviate further "shots"from you...My Dad said not to ever DO things that'd GET with me sent TO the"penzo"in the first!! This info he gave was not abtruse,so I evaded prison as well as death in a city that had over a THOUSAND murders in '88! He'd told me how prison"rape"is rare with:"Prison don't bring nothin' OUT of you, that wasn't ALREADY"in"you when you GOT there!"
@LuvThoseLadies Stand down ladylover, because you're reacting at my comments at tachyon speed!! Anyway,I'll present you with my big brothers philosophy(which explains just WHY I've never been"convicted"of a crime and served time in prison)as far as anyones accusation that Mr. Louis"cheated"in this bout:"It's NOT about what you"know";it's about what you can PROVE!!" Max was"victimized"by a SUPERIOR opponent as thoroughly as a naked man in the woods gets victimized by a horde of misquitos!!
+miranda prieur Hello Miranda, I was not talking about Max I was talking about the referee constantly in the way of the action, as far as your great uncle I am sure he was a good man to your mother or father, and he did in fact become friends with Joe Louis I think but am not sure but I think that the Nazis probably used your uncle, or great uncle, but that is a subject that I am sure your parents have or will go over with you. Max Schmelling was a good boxer and he in deed beat Joe in their first fight but was overmatched in this the second but your great uncle was a good man, he even helped Joe with his funeral when Joe died, so I think the two men were even friends, and I have nothing bad to say about your uncle I was just making light of the fact that the referee was constantly in the way of the action in that fight.
Okay am I gonna be the only one to say it? FIXED. Honestly Boxing started with Muhammad Ali. These old time boxers just don't cut it for me. Just a bunch of slow moving, flat footed, hacks. Nothing more. Not to mention the extreme corruption at the time regarding boxing. Schmeling was probably threatened by the CIA to lose. Look at him, scared for his life and unwilling to fight against an opponent he beat just two years ago. Pathetic.
