@@kekeke8988 Nor did the sequels come out in their arcade version, also the sega version is an exact port of the arcade, and for the better the snes version is quite bad and the sequels are worse.
@@zeroyeldragonmagico1576 Exact? In your dreams. The arcade version has more than 61 colors and much larger sprites and better animations. The only thing exact in the Sega version is the level layout, which is designed for 5 minute quarter play in the arcade. The SNES version has more meat. Longer levels, more levels, more game weapons and gameplay mechanics. It's an experience that could never happen in the arcade because it's designed to be played for an extended period of time, not 5 minutes at a time.
Super Nintendo is embarrassingly easier than the SEGA version. I think the SEGA version is two player co-op also. SNES version has nice pastel colors though, and soft muffly music to feel groggy and to fall asleep to.
The Snes version has longer levels, and the Genesis is basically an arcade port. I remember I used to love the arcade version. When it was released on the snes I remember getting it and being mega disapointed.. So Guess the Genesis version gets my vote
Who cares if they are longer on snes longer game doesn't mean it's better the sega version is better buy gameplay it's a good port of the arcade plus I love how it's another and better colors on snes thy looks washed out somehow.
What’s important to remember is that the snes is a bigger game and came out in ‘91 while the genesis had theirs in ‘94.. I can only imagine what it would look like as a ‘94 title.. oh yeah, joe & mac 2, which blows BOTH of these out of the water, graphically speaking, anyway!
I have no idea which version is best but SNES censorship and stretched graphics is already a no no for me though I feel that the Mega Drive version colors use could have been better, when you see games like Quackshot or Ristar in comparison...
I decided to finally get around to trying this game last night... *...I don't get whose bright idea it was to make the SNES adaptation of this **_very simple_** platformer run at 30FPS.* What an absolute disgrace of a "port" job LMAO, instantly switched over to the genesis one and actually had a decent gameplay experience as a result. Helps that it doesn't unnecessarily stretch out the levels with copypaste filler either. (plus if the color choices are a bother there's always that one romhack/patch that lightens the palettes to bring them closer to the arcade version again, played with that one on)
Yeah the Genesis is better but mine is the SNES version which thats my first time playing and heard about Joe & Mac. The reason I pick this, it may not have all the weapons like the arcade (including the Genesis version) but the levels are amazing and very extend too especially going inside a dinosnake's body which it's surprising I even love the ice cave level as well including the music too. I know the levels aren't detailed much or anything it's still great. But yeah that's the only one I grew up with instead of the arcade or Genesis version.
SNES intro is lame! We never see the "neanderthal nerds" kidnapping the chicks?! Then this version has a bit more colors variety but the graphics are stretched horizontally with wrong aspect ratio and less definition all of this due to the system's limited resolution (256x224 pixels). In comparison the Mega Drive version has good aspect ratio and bigger playfield (thanx to the higher res of 320x224 pixels). Mega Drive performs better too, as usual, with smoother animation and better frame rate (look here: 6:54). And the SNES version lacks the charge attack. Lastly the audio, both versions have good music but SNES has that fake sound to it, muffled and with reverb, that I dislike more and more (clearly not the same as crisp FM+PSG chips) but on the other hand SNES sound fx are better and even impresssive at times, like during the t-rex confrontation. All in all, the Mega Drive version is the truer experience, more akin to the arcade original and overall cooler. In comparison the SNES version is simplified and censored though is not necessarily a bad game on its own right.
I just wish that the colors use in the Mega Drive port was better. When you see others Mega Drive games such as Quackshot, Ristar or Flink, they have much better graphics in comparison! But still, the Mega Drive version is better, higher resolution and better performances already put it above IMO but also lack of censorship and better gameplay (SNES lacks the super charge).
+Matthias Forelli Actually, every SNES games sounds muffled due to the gaussian filter which cannot be turned off. Just, some games sound less muffled than others. Also SNES has limited amount of RAM which is bad cuz the system sound chip is all based on samples and samples eat lot of RAM. Notice how many SNES games have low quality and/or shortened samples? Also sometimes speeded-up samples to save on memory...
Yohko M. Yeah. Terrible choice of colours is a rather odd and somewhat frequent issue with MegaDrive games. That's why stuff like Pyron's colour hacks are popular. Take Final Fight CD for example. The colour hack makes it look much closer to the arcade than the default colour choices!
Yohko M. Yes, I know all about that stuff. IIRC many devs didn't even bother trying to use the bultin RAM, and used work arounds. Talking of sound, did you know that the sound of the MegaDrive versions of Street Fighter II didn't suck because of the soundchip, but rather Capcom's botched sound driver. Look up the patched version here on RU-vid. Sounds way cleaner!
Nice to see that. Md is arcade while snes is console version. In the flash remake of 2022, they call it arcade and extend and it is faithful to these roms but i prefer these versions than the ps4/switch port.
Easy win for the SNES in terms of graphics and sound. Bigger sprites, more colors, better sound, better controls. It's just a shame that the game was cut down in certain areas on SNES.
It's simple: THe Buttonlayout of the SNES controller is better for Jump and run games due to the cross layout. it's easy to use two buttons with one thumb. Actually, you can press all four Face buttons and the shoulder Buttons at the same time - with ease. Try doing that on the Genesis Controller ;)
A good one to compare this! For me the snes has the nicer colours and better sound (as is so often the case) but the higher res on the genesis helps a lot and it seems to run smoother (which again, is so often the case) its a tough one to call! Pick your poison I suppose, presentation vs pure gameplay. As a kid I’d have been attracted to the snes but now I’d have to go with the mega drive version.
When i get the snes version on those days and I get regrets and i was mad i was waiting play the arcade version i dint have the genesis only trough the years i know about this port but well i think is better try to play the arcade version and yes the genesis is way better
I liked this comparison video a lot, Im fond on both versions but my favorite one is SEGA. The SNES I thought had better music and sounds. Cheers gamers.
The Genesis version looks closer to the arcade version, hence why Takara published it (Takara also did the arcade->Genesis conversions of King of the Monsters).
Funny because I remember EGM giving the SNES version an 8/10 and a 7/10 for the Genesis. It doesn't help that all the people here saying the MD version is better without saying WHY it's better. The 90's was a time when cross-platform gaming always needed to set itself apart from the other games. I can say this: my friends and I enjoyed the SNES version better than the MD version. The SNES was colorful and smooth and easy on the ears. We had fun with the GEN version we preferred the SNES version. Like most kids who grew up in the 90's, it was always quality over quantity and we always got great quality games from the SNES.
Closer to the arcade? Than the snes it is with its color palette and sound.....the MD can run smoother, of course it has a faster processor but way less color palette to push. You would thought that with a faster processor would of push way more colors than the snes for better graphics.
Having played both I kinda enjoyed the genesis port more as it is more faithful to the arcade the snes version is good but feels sluggish it’s especially noticeable in boss fights and not having the charge attack didn’t do it no favors which could’ve been useful in those later boss fights who has higher hp and I personally didn’t like that devil looking creature as the last boss it seems out of place for this game
The SNES version was developed alongside the arcade version. I think they wanted to make the two versions different so that their would still be an incentive for playing the arcade version too. The SNES also got a direct sequel, though it really sucks and fails to capture the fun of the SNES and arcade originals. The Genesis version came out several years late, so it makes sense that they would just make a port of the arcade version by that point.
The Arcade port on Switch Sucked!. heres a on topic comment, im gonna say the Super Famicom version is better because the levels look different and it has good music.
