"Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., led the progressive charge in denouncing Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V.a., on Sunday after he said he would not support President Joe Biden's Build Back Better Act.
"Today, Senator Manchin has betrayed his commitment not only to the President and Democrats in Congress but most importantly, to the American people," Jayapal, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said in a statement. “After months of haggling with President Joe Biden and other Democrats, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) dashed his party’s hopes on Sunday by announcing he wouldn’t vote for the Build Back Better legislation.
Publicly, his biggest gripes are about the cost of the bill. But privately, Manchin has told his colleagues that he essentially doesn’t trust low-income people to spend government money wisely.
In recent months, Manchin has told several of his fellow Democrats that he thought parents would waste monthly child tax credit payments on drugs instead of providing for their children, according to two sources familiar with the senator’s comments."

The Military is needed and if we have to spend $10 Trillion to have one that can fight and beat any 4 Nations military combined then we spend $10 Trillion. It is part time for Ameriica to pull back and start doing for ourselves. In everything from Manufacturing to using ARMED Military on the border. Pulling 75% of the funding we give the UN every year `100% of what we give to both the WHO and time to rethink NATO. Time to let Europe look to the EU for their protection.Time to open all of America to Energy exploration. From Alaska to Key West. Time to pull as much Oil Coal and CNG from our Country as we can. Manchin's daughter negotiated a deal to relocate a big pharma company in Virginia and move it to India. she made 34 million dollars on the deal. fourteen hundred workers lost their jobs. Manchin wouldn't even meet with the workers to hear their concerns.

I'm a terminally ill mother of two teenagers last 6 years were spent in a homeless shelter cause SSI does not help enough to actually be able to live . The child tax credit has helped tremendously in the past few months. because of it we have gotten out of the homeless shelter and finally have a home.... next month I'm not sure if I'll still have this home or if we will have to go back to the homeless shelter the fear is real.....

The child tax credit is giving money to some people by reducing their taxes. Not everyone gets this reduction, and, it is per child, so, not all parents get the same amount reduced.

Rotating villain - In American democracy, when the majority party has enough votes to pass populist legislation, party leaders designate a scapegoat who will refuse to vote with the party thereby killing the legislation. The opposition is otherwise inexplicable and typically comes from someone who is safe or not up for re election. This allows for maximum diffusion of responsibility.

You know, I have heard from some Conservatives the reason why we shouldn't increase the minimum wage is because it could lead to increased inflation. The problem is price inflation happens every year, which is why nothing costs the same today as it did a decade ago. And yet, because the federal minimum wage hasn't increased in over a decade, anyone who works a minimum wage job has far less spending power today then they did 10 years ago because of that same inflation.

“The Federal Reserve was essentially printing money and handing it over to banks and private equity firms.” Ana is exactly right about this. However, she needs to go one step further: why is the Fed doing this? It’s because the Federal government is pulling gargantuan deficits. The Fed is under enormous pressure not to reduce the money supply, since that will raise interest rates tremendously-greatly increasing the cost of servicing the national debt each year. Now, what does 7/8 of the Federal budget for 2021 consist in? Social spending. Remember, you can raise tax rates as high as you want, and confiscate all the wealth from the rich, but the Federal government will never raise more than about 3.5-3.8 trillion dollars per year. We have been paying out 6-7 trillion. Since inflation follows deficits, the only way to prevent inflation is to cut spending (or at least to hold it steady until GDP catches up).

@@kcbondurant7959 , proponents of the BBB Act claim that the extra expense can mostly be paid for with increased tax rates. I am rather skeptical. The Federal government can never manage to obtain more than about 17-18% of GDP, regardless of nominal tax rates. (And yes, real economists acknowledge this.) This means that our maximum revenue is about $3.8 trillion. We might be able to squeeze out a few more hundred billion in the short term by raising rates, but in the long term would cause our big taxpayers to flee or to stop doing taxable activity. Considering that our expenses are currently north of $4.8 trillion in a year (and the BBB will certainly add to them), that is a $1 trillion deficit that cannot be overcome except by cutting expenses. I also think they that proponents of the BBB Act are rather lowballing the actual expenses, but that is another matter.

What do you expect? Senators want to get reelected. In reality there never were any Poling done on most of the STUFF in this monster. But once America heard about. Billions for Tree Equity and a Standing Climate Army they were against it. They did try to save it by removing the Payments to Criminal Illegal Aliens but that was not close to what the American People in a Majority of States see as BAD and UN-American in this bill. That said I am sure if some truly want to get some kind of Subsidized Child care and Subsidized Insulin payments they can. If they were willing to work with the GOP

I love how he threw a fit the other day when a reporter asked him if he was gonna kill the child tax credit, and he acted like it was the most offensive question hed ever been asked. Like anybody believed he was gonna protect it. Mitch has supposedly said Joe should switch parties. The problem with that is, even tho it would be better suited to Joe's views and agenda, that the Republican voters in his state hate him too.

So you don't give the president the courtesy to let him know before you go to Fox News. Tell people at home. Child care, is done, hearing aids and elde care is not needed. Family leave is OK for you but not for you constitution (because they may want to go hunting instead of working your sons coal mine) or for diabetic patients get their medicine for 35.00. Go explain it to your constitutions.

No I agree there were a few things that would pass on both houses and with a true Bipartisan vote. Subsidizing Child Care. If it was means tested and have say 90 day grace period then the work requirement would kick in. That would pass. And for insulin again subsidizing it for people that need it. Again it would need to be means tested. That would pass. As for the Continuing war on Americas Life's Blood that has no chance to pass. Adding IRS agents is just waste of resources I would say Hire 5000 more Border patrol Agents 1000 more Compliance Agents and 2500 ICE Agents. The reason this was never going to pass was all the Idiotic crap in it like the Climate Army tree equity and the other crap. And the way the DNC tried to hide the real cost by lowering the time most of these nutty programs was financed. Goverment Programs are worse then Roche's you just cant kill them. Bet idea is never to start any more without a 3/4 Majority vote in both Houses

I've been a longtime Democrat since 1987 but It's NOT fair to only give tax incentives to union car companies. Keep the 200,000 EV units tax incentive phase out in place. The Democrats and Joe screwed up.

@@eec4me Look, again, I have no love for mega-corporations. We are on the same page here. And you are partially right. The people are the economy. But so are the corporations (like it or not). It is true that the tax burden is kind of excessive for regular folks. Lower taxes are always better whether you're a corporation or a person. Where you run off the rails is, you don't get lower taxes by adding bloated government programs. When you add long-term programs that cost money, you by default raise the amount we have to come up with in taxes. So is it better to tax us more for programs we might use? Or tax us less and let us keep our money? The age old question. Lord knows corporations aren't going to pay for it. We will. Or the money printer will brrrrr... more to cover it. Giving people money gives us some money now, but it will run out, and when it does.. What then? I took a year's worth of Covid relief last year and I have none of that money right now. So the benefit is ultimatly temporary. And nothing about that was "paid back rapidly" You can't pay people to do less and expect to make more. You are right though. The people are the economy. The part you don't cover is that we need to work for it to be worthwhile. We make the wealth (period). Not the corporations, not the money printer. If we let the money printer do the job of making the 'make end's meet money' for us, we'll on a short road to ruin. We are in a very precarious position here between inflation and taxes and anything short of people working is just not going to work for long.

It is a nonprofit, mainly funded by individual donations. They are a vastly more accurate, trustworthy and positive public institution than most any of the other current, modern "news" options.

Inflation comes from an inflated supply in money relative to available goods and services for purchase. The conduit by which the increased supply in money is introduced into the market is irrelevant... Rudimentary economics. Whether government prints money and spends it on welfare, builds infrastructure, hands it to the military etc. doesn't matter. The simple increased spending of new money without a simultaneous increase in real productive output causes inflation.

It's already in place and the people of West Virginia are going to feel it when it's no longer available. All the BBB bill was going to do was extend the Child Tax Credit for a longer period, lower drug prices, expand medicare, and would have been paid for by instituting the provisions in the bill.
