Nowadays, there are times where it seems that if you so much as breathe on a quarterback the wrong way..... "Personal Foul. Roughing the passer..Defense.."
You cannot compare Montana and Brady due to rule differences. Montana played in an era when it was OK to actually hit a QB. Brady, Brees, Rivers - all of these guys play in the hug-it-out era, which is exactly why they are able to play for so many years.
Why the constant comparisons? Was this guy's accomplishment better than that guy's? Who cares? Who knows? It's a team sport. Neither Brady nor Montana nor anyone else got there alone, won alone, or lost alone.
Montana is very nice, but kinda shy. I was to his house several times as a limo driver, drove he and his wife to photo shoots... My favorite 49er from that era is Keena Turner, # 58. Super nice guy.
I recently saw playoff games of Montana in the 80s on youtube (didnt really start watching football until he was at the tail end of his career with the Chiefs) and it made me annoyed that so many people tend to coronate Brady as the GOAT. Dont get me wrong, I think he should definitely be in the discussion, but it shouldnt be an automatic.
Joe was quick and agile and elusive - very fluid in all aspects of his game. See Bill Walsh comments - he called Joe "graceful" - that aspect of Joe's game is so underrated.
+ave383 We still got the Chiefs to the playoffs and he had trash for receivers on that team. He was old missed two years and had several arm / elbow operations and had no fast ball left and still was able to win. His number one running back was 34 as well.
what is the point of the bartender and those FOUR guys sitting on the side browsing twitter? dan has the best guests but watching this is almost painful
5:50 The Niners won SB 16. Washington won SB 17. The Niners then lost to Washington in the NFC Championship to go on to SB 18 and lose to the Raiders. THREE IN A ROW?? What the hell is Joe talking about??
Sometimes the players don't remember their own careers better than some Fans. Although as a 49ers fan I have to agree with Montana that the loss to the Redskins was the worst loss in the Montana Era. We could've seen a 49ers vs Raiders Superbowl!
He must have gotten it mixed up with the loss to the Giants in the NFC Championship in 1991 which did end a 3 - peat bid. I honestly thought this was the game he was going to mention because it was at home and they lost it at the end of the game on a field goal.
@@1894ron Of course I know that I just thought he said tech? My mind must’ve gone there because Rudy & ND played Georgia Tech in the movie so that’s where my brain must’ve gone! OK I’ll redo it….. That good sweet peach almost made him be a bulldog😂
Joe's decision to call it quits was made by Zach Thomas MLB of the Dolphins...K.C. came into Miami and was playing good and then Joe rolled right to get away from the rush and got greedy thinking he had a couple more yards and misjudged how quickly Zach was coming before he ran out of time and Zach hit him at full speed...I thought he killed Joe...that was the end.
Not to knock Brady, but Joe in the last 3 minutes of a game and behind was awesome! Montana-Rice was unstoppable. There were other receivers but Jerry pulled more out of the air nobody else could! Great love and respect Joe!
I'd rather be 4-2 than 4-0 because I'd rather be the second best team in the NFL rather than the 3rd or 4th and so on plus come on no player has EVER gotten to 6 super bowls in any Era of the game (NFL championship are different)
+btez31 Then why would any team want to go to the super bowl if they have a 50% chance of losing the game and leaving a mark of the biggest game of the sport.
btez31 by your logic simply getting to the Superbowl isn't accomplishment then. Trust me most GM's would rather get to the Superbowl and lose because at least you can attract great free agents there's a reason why teams like the Browns, Bills, Lions, Jags and such have consistently had high draft picks but little to no quality free agents because they either can't get to the post season or win in the playoffs. Getting far in the playoffs attracts free agents.
4-2 > 4-0. But with the two losses there's a lot of heartbreak, especially if they are very tight\tough losses. Plus football is a very team sport. Brady's 2011 squad that went i don't think was that great either.
Arch Hades 2007 & 2011 are the best offenses brady had in his career. We all know what happened in 2007 and in 2011, gronk shouldn't have played that superbowl because of that ankle. If gronk was healthy in 2011, they would have won it.
Joe Montana talks abiout the Redskins beating his team the 49ers in the 1982 NFC Championship and the redskins going on to win the SB THATS WRONG IT WAS 1983 AND THE REDSKINS LOST TO THE RAIDERS - Joe Montana was never a bright man
I wish during the pro bowl there was a 7 on 7 flag game with all the legends! The NFL did that for awhile until someone got hurt but man I wish they would bring it back
Montana out duelled Elway and Marino = Top QB drafts, and collegiate and pro record breakers, in his Super Bowl victories. Anderson, and "Boomer" who weren't slouches either, in the other two. The league has been in decline for several years now, that's why there are more people than ever watching basketball. It's sure wasn't like that in Montana's day! Brady is the best of HIS generation, no doubt about it, but they would've EATen his immobile behind raw in the 60's 70's and 80's
Kidney McSecrets bravo 👏🏼...the rules are insanely stacked in the offenses favor, and the league is much less competitive than the 80s...not just players, but coaches: Shula, Landry, Gibbs, Parcells, Belichick and Buddy Ryan running defenses etc...Brady is the best in a long time, but not the GOAT. He beat Jake Delhomme?! McNabb (talented, but not legendary QB), and a young Russell Wilson (Warner was great) compared to Marino, Elway, and Esiason in the first year of the no huddle with a powerful running game. Brady lost to a team with that backup starting
