Chaels ability to yap at the absolute highest level and make a 10 minute video out of a 2 minute convo always amazes me 😂. I’m a horrible talker so I admire it sir lol.
There's only a handful of athletes that ever receive mainstream stardom post-Olympics and are able to monetize their brand to secure sponsorship deals. Most, including medalists, will just fade into obscurity once the show is over and are forced to return to underpaid 9-5 corporate jobs.
@@Razear depends on the country I guess and the level of investment into their Olympians. The UK is huge into giving their Olympians credit and hold them to high regard.
what and you expect someone who does hammer throw to be able to be paid in full all year round for 1 event in 4 years? lol what the fuck do u expect? of course they go back to jobs. thats life. bud.
That's right, some countries will just give you a 3 bedroom apartment for winning a gold medal or the equivalent of 300'000 dollars. America doesn't do this and most countries that host loose massive amounts of money on the Olympics. The Olympic committee is pretty much the only place that benefits.@@insertgenericusernamehere2402
Jackwood is right. Olympic athletes can ask their national organisations for monetary support, which is usually no more then enough to pay for coaches and training, not the living you do outside of your training. But they have regular day jobs. As to the 'UK being speshul again' -> wut? Higher regards? You mean they have a higher public profile, which they can exploit with personal sponsorship? And you *really* think this happens more in the UK then say the US? Being given the respect and more importantly media space to self promote for free isn't just an UK thing. But it also has NOTHING to do with active Olympic athletes not getting paid by their organisations, hence they are not professional athletes. Being able to self promote and get paid through sponsorship doesn't change that at all, it's not even relevant to the merits of the discussion here.
@@The_Noticer_of_Thingsyou can just comment twice to test the theory. One censored one uncensored. Stay prepared "the noticer of things". You should alsways be prepared for sowmthing that might never happened, as one bad guy said. Funny name too didn't NOTICE till i quoted it😂😂
@@cold485 You don't need to test it when you already experienced it for years and years. I do something similar as that guy. I noticed many things throughout. For instance, pretty sure google implemented AI since Jan, 2024. It not only catches the word to cen.... comments, it catches the content (what it's talking about) to shadowb... it. There is also comment thread ban as well. As in, every comment you made in certain thread is shadowb... regardless of what you type. Not gonna go into details as this can be very easily abusable.
So let us break this down. Women soccer players complain that they are not supported (or paid) like the men. The response? No one wants to watch you! Okay. Wrestler complains that they don't get paid even if they go to the Olympics. Why do you think that is? Come on people. Apply the same logic. Correct. No one wants to watch you. And let's extend this a little further. It's not like no athlete gets paid. There are some that get paid via sponsorships, whether before or after the games. Do you know who those athletes are? The winners. I thought that we all want a Meritocracy? Well, apparently, some just want to get paid. To hell with Meritocracy.
The difference is the Olympics generates Millions and gives the bronze metal winner 10k! Women's soccer generates nothing and thus pays nothing. People do watch wrestling and gymnastics when it's televised that's why they air it.
@@Lucian86 if they don't have sponsorship or a job then they only get paid by their country. The US pays under 40k for a gold metal. The Olympics generates Millions and pays zero to the athletes other than a metal.
What Chael is saying about the origin of the Olympics is entertaining but not true. The Olympic Games originated in Greece around 776 BCE. Participation in the ancient Olympics was restricted to freeborn Greeks. They had trained for their disciplines. Professional trainers and coaches existed even in ancient times. The concept of amateurism in the Olympics was an idea of a guy named Pierre de Coubertin in the late 19th century. The restriction from receiving direct monetary compensation favoured wealthier participants who could afford to train without needing to work.
IF the Wrestling was front and center like the god awful gymnastics, everyone would watch the wrestling over the gymnastics and it would be more correct to have the wrestling as that goes back to ancient greece. Further, The weight lifting should also be on tv and more fighting competitions as well. NBC has decided to ruin the olympics with Garbage sports that really no one gives a flying fk about except aging cat ladies who watch the gymnastics. So perfect for NBC, they have the 34-84 female demographic locked in. That's NBC anyway.
I'll never forget the winter when America won gold in curling, my whole workshop was in love and we all brought curling shoes. But your point stands, athletes should get paid, especially if NCAA athletes are getting paid
@@lrodrigues7488 they get paid tonnes from the exposure they make afterwards....I doubt you had any idea who Simone biles was before she first burst onto the olympic scene. Now she's got brand deals out the wazoo. She's making tonnes of money for herself and she's out there doing great stuff at the Olympics too
This video is as close to consuming a second of olympics coverage as I will ever get again after the disgusting trash they are promoting and it is the least painful boycott of all-time
They make so much money off of sponsors that I'm not going to lose any sleep over them not being paid. However, the committee makes TOO much money. They should be required to invest half of it into the host country
My brother is the current defending champion of the world in a winter sport, He is currently obsessing over winning the Olympics in 2026 but I agree with you and Joe in the world championships he is up against the very best competitors on planet earth. in the Olympics he will be up against the best the countries want to send. in the world championships and the world cups he has to consistently beat everyone over all in the Olympics you just gotta get lucky once or hope that the best is unlucky. For instance the very first Olympic half pipe gold medallist when he won it that was the first competition he ever won as pro rider.
€1.4 billion was spent on cleaning the river Seine for the triathlon 🏊 yet some of the competitors had to skip the mixed triathlon, as they were being sick from e.coli. The Olympics is always a huge loss economically for the country. But it is a way for the country to hopefully earn it back in time, because of exposure. Same with many athletes when it comes to sponsorship etc.
The only monetary upside I see for these athletes is having the title “Olympic medalist” for things such as autograph signings, appearances, cameo etc. certainly adds value there.
Its a conplete farce in what you're blurting out,Chael. Gold medal winners get $38,000 Silver medalists get $23,000 dollars, abd bronze medalists get $15,000 dollars. Simone Biles has already earned $38,000 dollars wirh her women's team gymnastics gold medal this year. If Simone were to achieve a record setting five gold medals at the Paris games, she would earn $187,500 dollars. The Olympic committee does indeed pay athletes.Do your research next time, and stop believing everything that comes out of Rogan's mouth. You're smarter than that, bruh. 🤷😅
Rogan makes hundreds of million from his podcast. How much do you think he pays the participants? I bet $0.00 other than travel expenses. Let's call a spade a spade here.
@@TheOriginalArchie Participants get free exposure to the millions of viewers, it's a trade off. Usually the guest is shilling a book or about to appear at the comedy mother ship or something of that nature.
That, and his piss is probably glows in the dark. Whoever is taking his sample would have to be on iodine pills and wearing a lead suit. That's part of why he has never even lost a round.
When I was a kid the Olympics were such a big deal I remember it was an event and big deal. Now I would not even know they started if it wasn't for the drag queens and that dude that beat up that Mexican woman smh.
The fact that they have break dancing and not compound archery is just gross. Its becoming a circus. Im glad recurve archery is in the olympics and it should be... but not compound? Which is absolutely huge across north america and the world now and continuing to grow ever year... they put in a bid to get compound in the olympics and they turned it down due to not enough funding or something along those lines... what a crock of sh*t. They already have an archery range set up for recurve. World archery already has all the ruling in place... I was pretty shocked when I found out break dancing is in it and they turned down compound... they are a bunch of idiots. Par for the course these days I guess.
That's actually a fair point. 1st of all nobody is forced to participate. And for the most part nobody gives a shit about them outside of the Olympics. The Olympics may make a lot of money but the athletes get world wide exposure they would otherwise not get.
Athletes are paid, depending on the medal they bring home, they are not paid by the Olympic Games, but by the country they represent, some countries give a pension to their own Olympians after reaching the age of 45, the same depends on the medal won, the pension starts from 40% of the average pension in that country and goes up to a full pension depending on the medal you won...
The Brazilian government (actually the thing called COB) gives a ton of money to Brazilian athletes that win medals. Also basically any medal winner in Brazil will make a ton of TV appearances and be hired for advertising everything.
I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t even listen to Joe Rogan’s clickbate anymore…. But i clicked in this immediately because chael consistently gives some of the most fair analysis of any topic that he chooses to tackle.
Olympics are a corporation that has a legitimacy from the ownership group.. Old line aristocratic forgotten families from the European feudal days... They have no land or power except for shares in this venture. Many families were low on money.. Great cash cow.. These ancient aristocratic families don't have to abandon their castles or get jobs.... they got the Olympics
Chael is definitely awake to some degree. Joe not so much. Joe is very unrealistic, and tends to be biased. He considers only the things that fit his narrative, and if you really want to be awake you need to see things as a whole and not just mention things that fit your narrative. Most people who think they have a clue about what's really going on in the world really don't. They are just as bad as everyone else, despite what they think, just for different reasons. They see some things more realistically than most of the population and don't just listen to what the media tells them, but they're biased and don't consider the other side of things, so they also get a very inaccurate view of how things really are. Joe is a good example of that. He has A LOT to learn if wants to be more accurate about the world. Chael is much more unbiased.
It’s absolutely disgusting how an Algerian man was allowed to beat an Italian woman in the woman’s boxing. 2 punches and 46 seconds. The woman dropped to the canvas on her knees and yelled “this is unjust”. Just sad. I’ll never watch the Olympics again.
It's a disgrace! Such a rich legacy in combat sports against the giant lack of support athletes get from the government here in México. Moreno truly kicked Open a new avenue for success for all of us.
You’re 💯 correct. Someone I went to school with was a gymnast and she competed in one of the olympics. She only just missed out on a bronze medal. But she quit after that as they’re is no money in it. Unless you’re a sprinter or cyclist or swimmer you get paid F all.
i'm with uncle Chael on this one. he hit a lot of good points and I still love watching some Olympics every 4 years. i don't think it's a scam unless false promises are made to the athletes
37500$. Gold. 22500$ silver. 15000 bronze. No medal no pay But that’s what the US is paying for each medal won. Each country pays their medalists differently.
Although I agree that athletes in the Olympics and the NCAA should get a fair share of the revenue, I am pretty confident that when starting in their sports all athletes included a little goat Shael wouldn’t think twice before accepting the proposition: “wanna come compete with the best of the world? I get you transportation and accommodation”
@@gregyothers7965 ah okay I don't watch the NBA so not familiar, I presumed it was just a stacked American team. I am excited for the NHL teams to be a part of the winter Olympics for the first time in ages. Should be great fun to see Sweden,Canada,America, Germany, Finland have good games
Can we replace every warning label or small print with a video of this man explaining what is really being said or what it really means. It be the best QoL patch.
The 90th place finisher from Suriname who is only there because of charity and can't get out of the first heat does not deserve to get paid because they are simply at the Olympics. If you want to pay anyone, pay the medalists.
It didn’t happen. The “dude” you fluffs are all bent about was born a female and has always been a female. It won’t matter to you professional victims though.
The one that baffles me is how there’s still speed walking in the Olympics. They try and call it race walk but we all know it’s just speed walking lol. And they stay getting caught cheating and getting put in a time out box 😂
The Olympics is about the whole world coming together to compete in sports. Governments around the world contribute dollars for their best athletes to compete. Each individual sacrifices a large amount of their life on this earth to learn, train and participate in their chosen craft, but know one said they would be guaranteed a payday at the end, win or lose. The competitors jus luv what they do. There is only money in any sport if you are one of the best! And if you choose a dead end sport well you better make sure you have another skill to back it up. Money in ammatuer sport......? Nope!
My daughters are gymnast that trains at a brand that provides athletes, they want my youngest to compete in 4 years at the Olympics. I told her it’s up to her, but I would rather spend the money for her to become a neural surgeon. The pay benefit is not there, and won’t help her in a real career, unless she takes her Jujitsu to the Octagon. Other than that she has zero benefit other than being a bad ass woman who can compete on the us team gymnastics and choke other women out in a cage. I can find many better ways to spend $400k on my girls.
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 It's not a combat sport for starters. Going in everyone knows the man is better than the female, but it equals out on the other side. You can't compare it to boxing in any way. So just stop it
The problem is Americans don’t appreciate the nuances of traditional Greco-Roman wrestling. Japanese on the other hand love sumo and matches are televised. Their sumo wrestlers achieve idol status!
It's a choice to dedicate yourself to a certain discipline. You go into it with the understanding of Its monetary potential. It could improve and become more marketable, like MMA in the UFC. But, maybe not.
It’s their chance to compete against the best and make huge money on sponsors rather than do it just for fun at home while having to work a full time job. You can’t really argue with that.
The fact that it's mostly Americans that are offended by those is wild. I'm glad us Europeans are different. Stuff like that doesn't faze us. We just living life
How the NCAA is worst yet you AT LEAST get something from the NCAA which is an education, what do you get from the Olympics? Specialty if you're not a winner, you get sweet f all
