We can push toward healthier lifestyles, but let’s also incorporate the 10 second rule. If a person can’t change what you’re judging in 10 seconds, don’t point it out.

Giving it a try then, so you don't get to hate on me for following your advice. You have a knack for dressing up without making it look hard, but I was not able to un-notice something just now. Don't know what lipstick you are using, but the sharp transition to darkened shading on your upper lip suddenly reminded me of a mustache. No offense - if it is just me, no problem, but if you see it too am sure that it is an easy fix.

They can change it in 10 seconds. Just decide to not overeat anymore. Its a mentality and a life style of greed and gluttony. The damage done cant be undone in 10 seconds, but the source of it certainly can. My main problem with "body positivity" is that they deny there is even a problem that requires solving. And the first (and most important) step to recovery, is admitting you have a problem.

I feel like “society” has been saying that fat is the standard for the past few years, which I feel is really dangerous. The biggest health problem in the US is obesity.
@thesanfranciscoseahorse473
@thesanfranciscoseahorse473 3 года назад
It's done in the name of trying to avoid offending people with truth. That's the more dangerous element of the whole thing thing in my opinion. Like bodies are different. Some people are fatter or skinnier than others and still healthy. It seems like society has taken this to extremes where life styles that are blatantly damaging and self abusive are being encouraged to avoid offending people.

Not that I disagree completely with your statement. But really, the biggest problem to health in the US is obesity? As an outside spectator in a foreign country, I would say your biggest health concern are guns. I have never seen a school have a dozen students die in the span of one day from obesity.

I personally disagree with the 'body positivity' rhetoric as I feel it panders too much and not everybody can be classed as attractive. Steve Buscemi is a really good actor, but honestly he would have no chance auditioning to play 'Thor' or 'Superman' as require a high level of physical appeal. Both Henry Cavill and Chris Hemsworth are next level 'prilly' and if we cannot accept the 'beautiful people' exist, we should simply not comment or compliment others on their appearance.

@@blodhevn2353 True, but everything nowadays is about being all inclusive, especially when it comes to women. Not everyone fits into the same category (or should) but we really need to stop promoting narratives that something 'is' when clearly 'is not'. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PJNHJbLrXTs.html. That way, there is isn't the need to live up to an expectation. I hate (and never) use the word 'ugly' to describe a person's looks, but complimenting seems to create issues in the further down the line, for both those who are not, and for those who did not ask to be complimented, and with the latter there can be the somewhat patronising _"Oh yes... but you are beautiful"_ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kOOS77gowlg.html

Beauty standards differ. What's considered pretty to one culture might not be pretty to another, a slightly lighter or heavier woman could easily still be considered "hot", or "beautiful". When it comes to body positivity going too far, I think thats when we start encouraging people to be blatantly unhealthy. Telling people obesity or being unhealthily overweight is positive and beautiful is like saying smoking is beautiful, to avoid offending smokers. Fat and skinny people can be really beautiful. But either extremes are unattractive because it is not healthy. Disfunction and unhealthy damaged purposefully broken bodies aren't good to raise up as attractive. If it is, then we should encourage drug abuse and smoking. Lol

@@mattvsmetaverse definitely... ppl need to understand being a "victim" is equivalent to being "vulnerable"... IMO there are certain times when being vulnerable is acceptable, and even at times maybe admirable. However, I disagree that it should be praised. You dont praise weakness... you also don't ostracize it. You at minimal acknowledge it, and create a way to cope w or correct it. This neurotic society that we have been thrust into recently, is rewarding and praising ppl for victimhood and trying to arbitrarily gift them privileges and equities. I was born in 1989... the 90s n 2000s were like a giant birthday party in America compared to now. @@blacknap0le0n56 Bro... couldn't agree more! '86 here, and yea, this is by far the most sensitive people have been in my lifetime. And honestly, probably the scariest time because of it. It's crazy how simple the solution is. The only thing holding people back today is their mind; just being informed. We've grown too dependent on technology, to where we allow people on Twitter to think for us, to convince us that we're oppressed and have no control over our own lives. We like to feel noble from our desk chairs, like we have to endure so much, when most of us have no idea what enduring actually is. I do see a response to it, though. Thankfully, we're still free market (for now) so a lot of people are speaking with their wallets on all of this craziness. Popular culture's trying to make correct-thinking look psychotic today, but it's biting back. Know you aren't alone my dude. ✊ If we stop caring, no one will. Best wishes and God bless!

"I've seen many many beautiful women of all shapes and sizes, so I don't think that he should say it that way...." If you have your own personal tastes or preferences regarding people's appearances, no one's criticizing that. That wasn't the question here however. Here's why: 1. Women (I assume you are one) don't get to decide what men should find attractive. 2. The discussion was about what's expected from a romantic lead actor (male or female). These are films. Films cost money, so they need to make even more money. What's going to bring men to watch the same love story we've seen a thousand times? Amazing in shape beautiful women on the big screen for all to enjoy. That will be more of a motivation for men to go see the films than their female counterparts who are actually there for the story/romance. If you lower or remove the standard of beauty in those productions, you lose money. You lose money because men aren't going to go watch them. One example of "get woke, go broke".

Being fat used to be a sign of prosperity, wealth, respect and security. In a lot of nations. Because everyone else was hungry and malnourished. Now that we have science and are more educated about the human body, this is no longer true. Being fat is unhealthy. There are so, so many health problems associated with it. But I’ve also got friends that are fat and very, very active. They would outlast a skinny person playing “full” court basketball any day of the week. I believe everyone plateau’s. The same with lifting weights to get bigger. My opinion is as long as you are active daily, the weight doesn’t matter because you’re always conditioning the heart and lungs. Would they do better if they lost weight? Doubt it. You’re own brain knows the body type you have bettter than any study. The BMI chart is just generalizations. Its true for a lot. Edit: I have to add. JayShara, you already know you are one of the “beautiful” people. And the standard of beauty is not changing. It’s always going to be perfect angular features with a healthy body. That’ll never change because of survival instincts. The fat can’t run from a massacre. Not far enough anyway. It was comically portrayed in “Zombieland”. Rule #4: Cardio. “Poor fat bastard never stood a chance.”

I get what you mean about "being hot" and there being people of all sizes that other people think are beautiful. The point Joe is making is that there is a certain "type" or standard that appeals to MOST people, generally speaking; that the vast majority of people will find really attractive, and that's what studios want in certain movies because then it appeals to the largest audience possible. Not that their looks are the only thing that people will focus on, but it helps to get the most amount of attention, which is obviously the point. It's not that it's their only purpose in the movie, or that it's the only thing that is used to get attention, it's that it HELPS to get MORE attention. Everyone likes seeing attractive people, that's never going to not be the case. It's not "objectifying" people, it's using that fact to give people what they want in order to better serve the movie/show. I do agree that attractiveness shouldn't ALWAYS be the focus, and that people of all walks of life should have the chance to participate in various roles and that talent should be first and foremost concern for the vast majority of roles. But there ARE certain roles where physical attractiveness definitely is more important, because the nature of the role requires it, and that someone with equal talent who is more attractive shouldn't lose out on getting that role simple because certain people think a person is "unattainably hot" or something, because that's absolutely ridiculous.

I agree with you 100%. People all have different body shapes and sizes and they have their own beauty. Not everyone can be the “ideal” body type which has for years been promoted by advertising and movies. Besides, I think what counts more is how beautiful a person’s personality is. I’ve known many gorgeous/handsome people who were absolute monsters. Gotta look at the whole package. Nice discussion. 😊🌹

Man thats nonsense, if you are an actor or actress your job is to specifically play a role as best as you can. Asking you to change your physique its part of the "playing a role as best as you can" it is not like you are playing as the same person all the time... man thats why actors like Christian bale an Joaquin Phoenix are well known and respected, becauss they go through unbelievable and extreme transformations... because they have their roles as top priority

@@JayShara nope, not bad but glorifying overweight people and telling them they are beautiful is not necesarily a good thing. Joe didn't go over it in this interview but in another one he talks about how society should not say that being fat is fine and beautiful. As far as health standards. It's too much to type out, if I find the interview i'll link it. But the premise is he speaks about being overweight is not beautiful because it's unhealthy. Nothing against the person themself, they could be the sweetest most loving person you ever met. Anyway yeah, I'll try and find it.

The woman (or the man) is supposed to look hot to attract people to see the movie. If you're an amazing actor (with a great resume) you can get by on talent (Tom Hanks, Denzel, Meryl Streep, etc). Otherwise, you gotta do everything you can to draw a crowd to see your flick. Women line up to see movies with Ryan Gosling because they want to sleep with him...it's the same with everybody in movies.

All right here is how it works whoever wrote a novel book or film script that becomes a movie if the writer say's a character in the book or script is around 130-135 lbs the actor or actress needs to get down to 130-135lbs for image accuracy of that character they are going to play... Just like how they put prosthetic scars and fake tattoos on characters if said character has a scar or tattoos in the novel book or film script...heck Matthew McConahay lost a good deal of weight to play his character in Dallas Buyer's Club...but hey it shouldn't even be a issue anymore now they can do life like CGI body imagery now just throw actors and actresses in green bodysuits and they can scan models bodies of certain weight ranges then they can just insert the models body on the green body suit... Problem solved

Actually there is sort of a blue print. Scientists took simple outline drawings of a range of women's bodies and showed them to males all over the world. They took surveys from all over the globe, from South American tribes to major cities across earth. Runway models are too thin, but there is a small range which men find attractive.

I can see the points on both sides for this one but I view it like this. Hating someone for having an attractive physical appearance is akin to hating someone for being gay, or a different race, or for having a mental disability, or whatever. You're showing prejudice against them for something completely beyond their control. But when I think more about their conversation, they kinda whiffed on the biggest point in favor of shaming "unattainable beauty standards". After all, that phrase didnt really roll out in protest of genetics. It rolled out against modifying people's looks with photoshop, and then presenting that as truth. I think thats where the problem is. The big lie of being photoshop beautiful.
@JosephLupoli

JayShara, you're very intelligent and funny. That is why I find you attractive. Period. And although you also happen to posses great physical beauty, to me, that is secondary. I'm the kind of guy who sees the big picture in all aspects of life. Thus, I am keenly aware that physical beauty is oh-so-fleeting. And there are no exceptions. I like your views on Hollyweird producers and directors (and society in general) who coax or force women actors to lose weight. You are spot on, in my opinion. And even though men are far more visually oriented than women are (as a rule), I'm not one of those guys. For me, a woman should possess much more than just looks. I find that women who have energy, intellect, and humor are usually very sexy, no matter if they are considered to be overweight, according to show business elites. In fact, if I were to speak from a visual standpoint only, women who are "overweight" are far more attractive than underweight women are.

Here's the deal, beauty is absolutely in the eye of the beholder, ans societal standards of beauty change based on region and era. Just think about renaissance paintings. Most paragons of beauty at the time were pretty zaftig. These days, by and large feminine beauty centers around a svelte appearance. There's a subset of the population that whines that this is unobtainable. These people need to shut the hell up. I'm 6'4" and 240 lbs. I'm chubby I don't get mad at Jason Momoa for being better looking than I. That dude works his butt off to look that good. I'm lazy, and I like pizza and beer. Being that handsome takes work that I'm not willing to do.

If you look at Sean Connery in old Bond movies and compare him to Daniel Craig, there is a difference. Movie stars are expected to look a lot more fit nowadays. Same time the audience has gotten more obese. So at the end of the day the difference between your average person and all the stars you see on screen and online daily has gotten bigger.

There are unhealthy standards for men, it's just not talked about because we don't care as much. Some actors had to actually crash diet and do a *_SHIT TON_* of crazy shit. It seems that women compete with each other on beauty standards compared to men. I just want a smaller stomach and not die from diabetes too soon. I wanna play more games in my future. When you are playing a specific role, yeah, they are looking for that role for that reason. Not all women in Hollywood have to be beautiful for their roles, but that is the character the role is. Some characters are hot, some are ugly, some are okay, some are thing/thick/muscular/obese. It depends on the character. Movies are simply stories that somebody want others to act in. The actor may have suggestions, but to make a movie change for the actor in spite of the story the creator made is unfair. That's why animation needs more respect than just live action.

I respect your opinion on the body positivity subject but I somewhat disagree. I am a big guy myself and I know that it was not an accident that I got to where I am. In fact I see that it was a lot of irresponsibility, lack of self-discipline, lack of self-control and addiction to the good feelings that I get from food that has led me to where I am. I think Society is all too accommodating of those lifestyle habits and I think it just really needs to change. Even though I am a person who would be targeted by it, I fully believe that we need to have some societal shaming of the overweight to get there Lives in order and actually work to improve themselves. I think that all the body positivity movement does is enable and reinforce people in their beliefs that they can do whatever they want, have absolutely no self-control and still have others obligated to call them beautiful and encourage them. We look at people who are smoking your kids with disgust and shame them publicly because we see it as unhealthy and it is considered a good thing in society to be like that. These days there is a movement to shame people into wearing masks, because they are putting others at risk and such blah blah blah. They don't. But if you want to put yourself at risk of heart attacks, diabetes, all kinds of other ailments. Increase the cost of healthcare around the country by your increased level of unhealthiness and increased need of a medical services. Do all of that and it is totally fine in fact you should do more of it than anybody who thinks otherwise is a bad person. I don't have any problem with creating products that cater to those people, I just don't think we should be Encouraging people and enabling them to stay that way.

well there is a difference between accpeting someone for who they are/how they look and telling someone that they need to do x to be in a movie or do a photoshoot/runway etc. Beacuse what thoose things are doing is selling an image. does that mean that they dont accept who you are? no it doesnt beacuse the person isnt the image, even if the person becomes related to that image.

A sexy person and a nice person can both be 'good' people. Some people just are not sexy(generally) doesn't mean they shouldn't model 'stuff', they just may never be "sexy". I used to be told by both men and women I was sexy, I'm now 70 and not sexy..I can get any haircut, wear the latest cloths ect still not sexy. Nice,wise, happy, content works for me.
