Wow. I've been eating one meal a day all my life, practically. I never called it fasting. My mother called it "dangerous". I'm 68 now and have zero health problems and still have tons of energy.
I eat once a day. I don’t feel hunger during the day. No one around me understands it. Everyone hassles me about it. I totally understand this guy. The spike mid day nap from lunch, is exactly about the insulin spike.
Honestly Im reading a book called why we sleep by a guy named Matthew Walker, and he disagrees. He was actually on the JRE podcast. Basically the midday lul is actually very biological in humans for some reason despite diet. Personally, I think its evolutionary to avoid the hottest part of the day
If it works, and your being honest with yourself about it working, then screw what people say. Our bodies are incredibly complicated chemistry experiments, anyone claiming to fully understand every angle of our bodies function is a liar.
Adrian Octavio you’re wrong. Average lifespan for hunter gatherers was only so short because it was skewed by high infant mortality. If they made it past infancy, then they would often go on to live just as long as we do in the developed world, while being much healthier. There is a lot of anthropological research on this. Look it up and stop being ignorant. To think our ancestors regularly would die at or before 30 is just silly.
Hehe I think of that too.. I fast for 12-16 hours a day. Have been doing this for 3 months.. And I have noticed so many health benefits and weight loss. I wasn't overweight to start with. But am now in the healthiest state I've possibly ever been at 48 years old.
Totally believe in this. I've never eaten three meals per day as an adult. Always felt it's a social construct based on marketing. So much of our eating habits are programmed.
It comes from when we were an agricultural society doing hard labor. Most of us no longer require the caloric intake of 3 meals especially if we work at desk jobs.
About the same I stopped for about 3 months at the end of last year b/c of school and work schedules but I picked it up again and in the last year I have gone from 262 to 185 all from fasting. And I still can eat ice cream every night!!!
I have practiced OMAD for several years, fasting 23 hours a day & have never felt better. The benefits for me have been incredible & I can’t imagine ever not incorporating fasting into my life.
16 hour fast is honestly fantastic . I always felt uncomfortable and had stomachs pains waiting 3 meals a day ( same calorie intake ) . Now I just feel like me all the time .
I went about 6 months with intermittent fasting with walking for about 1.5 hours a day (to and back from college) and had lost about 22kilos. Totally shocked when I weighed myself I had no idea what I did to lose this weight. All I did was: -Cut out junk food (the unnecessary sugars) -Walk every day -16hrs intermittent fasting (skip breakfast) It works. Seriously. Control your hormones and you will go places you've never been.
Yeah man. It's actually unhealthy to eat 4 hours before bed during digestion anyways. Most days have a healthy dinner, don't eat before bed. When you wake up feel free to have sugar and carb free coffee, tea, energy drink, etc, skip breakfast and eat a meal or two in a 4 to 8 hour window. If you have a healthy low carb/sugar lunch and dinner fasting is a breeze. 4 hour fast after dinner, 8 hour good night's sleep, then eat 4 hours after getting up and you're good to go. It's easy after you adjust and your stomach shrinks. I'm on ketomwoth intermittent fasting right now and I'm down from 202 to 184 in 2 and a half weeks. Good luck. Thomas Delauer and Eric Berg would be beneficial to youtube.

Fasting + low carb + light exercise at 47 took me from 290 lbs (6ft 5in) to 262 in 2 months. I am 47 but felt 67 as I felt pain in most of my joints. My back would be stiff and painful after a 20 min car ride. My foot had a pain when I walked that would never get better......TODAY ALL GONE! I'm eating one low to no carb meal a day until I reach my goal of 225 lbs. Fasting has for me been the miracle everyone wished existed. I'm feeling great now. I can't wait to reach my target weight I have not seen sense high school. I plan to do 18-6eating window eating two low carb meals a day once my goal is reached.
@@johninphx9360 kind of a personal thing to ask but can you post a results video when you finish? I am considering doing the ADF. I’m just curious to see how it worked for you since you were able to drop weight significantly. Personally I am not looking to make as much of a change but I want to see if it will spare my muscle gains and burn mostly fat
@@bonefisch6657 belly fat is my struggle right now. I feel like that's all that's left. RU-vid search Dr. Fung and DR Berg. They are the main sources I used to learn . 20 hr fast is not even a thi g anymore. It all automatic. I don't even think about food anymore before about 18 hrs. Meat and salad for 90% of my meals. No bread rice potatoes. Just meat and salad. In exchange I eat what ever I want when we go out or spcl. Occasion. Maybe once a month. I'll still eat the one meal but don't feel bad if it's pizza or chicken parm.
I am on day 5 of 7 of a water fast to lose weight. My biggest take away so far is knowing that moving forward.. i don't have to eat all the time. Hunger is only temporary. It goes away muchhhh faster than you'd think. At least for me. Everyone maybe different. I also feel like I have more energy and I feel this is the most focused I've been in years.
I started intermediate fasting along with carnivore diet 6 weeks ago and I've lost 26 lb and have no cravings absolutely amazing! And it was easy from day one
The thing I've realized since drastically reducing my carb intake is that my body adjusted, and now when I eat a lot of carbs I feel much hungrier the next day. Sticking to veggies, a bit of fruit and mostly good proteins and fats has pretty much changed my life. Started out at 246 and been 170-174 for the past year now.
@@aaabbbccc985 We don’t need carbs. Our bodies can produce their own glucose via the liver once glycogen stores run out. Also, avoid starchy vegetables at all costs! They will quickly take up carbs/net carbs :)
I’m a recovering heroin addict I have 9 months clean Iv totally changed my life what I eat and I’m literally doing my first fast now just past 24 hours and will be going sleep wake up and break my fast thanks for the vidoes changing life’s
So happy RU-vid algo brought This video back to me... I just like to express my sincere gratitude to Joe Rogan n Doctor Peter Attia... It was this video that basically change my life because it open my eyes about intermittent fasting.. All my life i have struggle with weight especially maintaining my weight.. and since in my junior high scool (now 41) i have also have stomach ulcers n fatty liver issue.. When started Intermittent fasting 3 years ago i only noticed after more than a year i never had any case of stomach ulcer anymore.. and upto this 3rd year i remember only 2 incidents that i have some minor stomach ulcer.. And within this 3 years i have lost 18kg (39lbs) n maintain it..
Ok…so I have hashimotos and I spend a good deal of time on you tube trying to find solutions. I ran across prolonged fasting and thought “well, it’s free and worth a shot!”. I fasted on water for 3 days. Here’s what happened: I wasn’t hungry at all after about 6:00 PM on day 1. So the hunger goes away. Day 2 my brain fog completely went away and I felt like a freaking genius. I actually looked for opportunities to talk to people because I’ve felt brain dead for so long. Day 3 I noticed the weight loss and an energy boost. I almost kept going, I felt so great. So now I fast 2 days a week just to maintain that energy level and combat the severe brain fog. It’s worth a shot, folks. I think what we’re eating is messing us up.
I fast 23 hours a day. Benefits that ive noticed: more energy, weight loss (really just due to caloric restriction) and my skin complexion has improved greatly
@@Donnie-sg2cj It most certainly is not just calories in and calories out. Fasting over an extended period of time heals the body and improves insulin sensitivity in those people that are resistant. You might not have any issues with this so it might seem the same to you but for a lot of people when they eat food they spike thier insulin 4-5x as high as others. Fasting corrects this. So OMAD can really help those people with those issues.
I started at 347. Ive been fasting for minimum 16 hours for the past 2 and a half weeks. Usually only eat 1 meal a day or about 1800 calories. Ive lost 22lbs already and i feel better mentally and physically. The first 3 days were rough. Pounding headache and felt like i was starving. So glad i stuck with it and im gonna see where this will take me
@nehemiahjuan950 and remind u I work at a pizza shop where I'm on my feet all day but not too physical. I lost all this weight from changing my diet and fasting. I don't exercise much at all. Dint go to the gym or nothing. I started walking a couple weeks ago that's about UT
I do 16 hour intermittent fasting and my biggest benefit is that I have no diarrhea or stomach upset. It is really good. Earlier, I used to have diarrhea or stomach upset 3/4 times a year.
Joe is so wise to say the foods you eat have a direct effect on your energy and mood and that can have a profound effect on how your personality is expressed.
I’m on 23 hour fast too, or (OMAD). Once a week I’ll do a 48 . Lost 30lbs in a month . I work out a little too. The overall feeling I get is great . You’ll quit being hungry , had to work my way up to this - start small if you’re new 12,16 hr fasts . Once you get through the walls you’ll find a better & new you. Not being a big ball of stress will totally change your life , Joe is spot on .
What Joe was saying at the end : you will find this nice psychological momentum that will allow you to kick anything’s ass . It led me to quitting smoking , then quitting chewing , all the right shit comes out of my mouth instead of saying stuff I regret , I’m not great at verbalizing these things but there is true power in it . I try to show my friends but beware people are gonna think you are crazy but f em . Do what works for you
I had a great great grand uncle that smoked and drank every day of his life. The one thing that interested me about that fact that he lived to 103 was that he only ate once a day. He's the only family member to have lived that long by about 10 years to anyone else.
It blows my mind that people make fasting 16 hours sound even remotely difficult. You could literally just eat between 10 am and 6 pm and make it work. That's an early snack/late breakfast, lunch, snack again, and then dinner at 6. How is that hard?
Of course it’s not difficult once you make that shift, but before I made that shift I ate dinner then kept eating until I went to bed. Eating enough of the right food to feel satiated and committing to no snacking takes a bit of discipline from your average person who has been dependent on carbs.
I did 24 hour fasts for about 3 months and dropped over 40 lbs in just one summer, I still fast to this day to maintain my weight but I often do 16 hour fasts to prevent getting underweight! Great video and top to beginner dieters!
I eat once a day for about 1 hour. Any eating through our the day, I'm sluggish and ready to sleep. @ 50, I don't gain weight, no matter what I eat and tons of energy. Also helps with my arthritis and tendonitis. Took me awhile to ignore my brain/hunger pains but so glad I did!
I've always ate only once per day. Everyone used to tell me that's why I was obese. Now it's the greatest diet fad. I've lost and gained weight eating that way. Moderation. That's what works (for me, anyway).
GEORGE.W. BIATCH. "Genetics" has very little to do with it. Show me those fat people from 100 years ago... Protip, you can't. Genetics will determine metabolism. But the body when in a fasted/starvation state will cling on to body fat. Multiple small meals a day will lean a person out incredibly fast. Because the metabolism goes through the roof
I disagree! Genetics does play a role in my opinion. 100 years ago, people did not eat multiple small meals a day. They were lucky to eat one big meal, if that. You are countering your own assertion. The over-eating epidemic is directly correlated with obesity, and that is a fairly recent phenomenon in human history. So, yes, there are people in fairly advanced society that are more or less likely to be prone to become obese because of their genetics. You put 2 fat individuals together and you get a fat baby; add a few McDonald and Burger King on every street corners and you get a fat town! Intermittent fasting has produced great results for total body fat loss and no, it is not a fad but rather a realignment with they way Man has been sustaining himself for most of Human Evolution.
I'm so thankful that Joe presented intermittent fasting to me through youtube... I can't follow a diet but intermittent fasting is challenging but its so simple... it helped me a lot.. iv never been obese but it helped burn of that last layer of fat (I'm around12-13% body fat)
I’ve just done a 3 day fast, due to depressive reasons. No joke, I’m not sure if it’s just because I’m still in it. But it feels life changing. This is how I was supposed to feel. The motivation and just energetic presence I feel I have is just naturally massive rn. I feel more social and I feel like exercise is natural. Winning.
Back in the 90's we called this the E-Plan diet. Spending Friday night till Sunday on ecstasy dancing at raves. Apart from the crushing mood swings during the week I've never looked so good...
I did a 11 day water fast at the beginning of this year and it was the best thing i could have ever done. No more acid reflux, stomach ache, way better sleep and etc. People keep telling me i was crazy but only if they knew
Biff well i basically just stopped cold turkey. No transition. I was smoking and drinking alot and wanted to reset my body back to where it needed to be. The first two to three days were rough but after that everyday i felt better and better. My mind was so clear and i felt so motivated to get shit done. I could have went even longer if i wanted. I broke the fast with watermelon and strawberries the first day then had salads for a week then started with chicken and fish for protein. I still feel the benefits from that fast 3 months later
Animal products cause build ups of mucus which blocks the bodies path ways and causes a lot of cancers. That's in laymans terms. If you want to look deeper into it go and research DR. Sebi. The benifits are truly amazing.
I just started my 16 hours fast 5 days ago and have already lost 15 pounds. Mind is clear. Less fog. Energy rising and I feel the need to keep myself busy. I’m excited for the future. Making this my new lifestyle
I lost 12 kg since September 18 with intermittent fasting. Nothing worked for me and this just seems to suit my body. I also stopped doing cardio - I only do strength training and yoga. I know it doesn't work for everyone but it's suits me perfectly and combined with strength and flexibility, my body has changed completely.
Fasting helped me realize how much time I eat and how it make me feel like shut. Fasting in the beginning sucks but when you get over the hump its like having a clear mind clear gut
Elite Clinical Research nope, exactly wrong lol. Well, diet is very important of course. But the mindset would be number one. You can eat the healthiest food all you want... But if you're under severe stress, you're fucked. And don't you tell me that eating healthy food removes stress and that type of shit. Yes, eating healthy is definitely a starting point if ur mentally fucked and been eating junk food. But diet alone wont help
Elite Clinical Research technically you can lose weight no matter what you eat as long as you eat below BMR , but yes diet helps a lot, whole grains and veggies keep you full longer than white carbs and sweets

Fasting regularly and using a treadmill desk at a 10% incline for 4-6 hours a day with next to no processed sugar and its the best weight loss I've ever had
I did a 36 day water fast in 2021. My goal was to go for 40 days. I only quit, because I contracted Covid-19, and had the absolute worst nausea that I’ve ever had in my life. I sipped chicken bone broth, which, unfortunately broke my water fast. I did learn quite a bit though, even though I didn’t make it to 40 days, water fasting. My weight at the start was 286.8 pounds. 7 days later, I weighed myself, and the scale read, 264lbs, a total of 22.8lbs lost in a week! Probably 17-18lbs was water loss, then probably 4-5lbs fat, then the last tiny amount of weight, was muscle. I felt incredible! Also, I finally achieved the, “No more hunger zone”, as I put it. The only thing I’d do from time to time, was take a pinch of, “Real Salt”, for some salt and other essential trace minerals. I only had water, no coffee, tea, nothing else. I took blood readings, twice per day, morning and evening, for glucose and keytone levels. It was interesting, my blood glucose stayed between, 95 an 64 and after about the fifth day my blood keystones, by day 7 of my water fast, were 4.1! I was in serious fat burning mode! My keystones were always over 4 and one time went as high as, 6.9! My final weight-in on day 36: 237.4lbs. A total weight loss, of 49.4lbs, an average daily weight loss, of 1.37lbs per day. Had I not gotten stricken badly with Covid-19, I know I could have continued for 80 total days, with only water. If my weight loss average was consistent, in 80 days, I would have lost 109.6lbs and weighed my healthy weight, of 177.2lbs. Look up the RU-vidr: “Fasting Fat Man.” This guy will amaze you! Peace.
@@jpg1212 After day 6-7, I only felt better, no lethargy, no hunger at all. If I wouldn’t have gotten Covid-19, and things would have keep going the same, I believe I just would have gone past the 40 day fast mark. I’ll never know…
When I got Covid, I fasted through it and feel as if it was the best thing I could have done. Putting food in a body that is sick doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Let the body naturally deal with being sick and leave digestion for another time.
I've been doing average 18 hour fasts consistently for over a decade. 36 years old, blood work excellent and in great shape. Read the warrior diet, that book got me hooked on the idea of how humans should live and eat. Hope the best for those who are learning about fasting.
I recently did a 3 day fast where I fasted until dinner time and I was surprised at how good I felt. The first day I could feel my body going through withdrawals and had a pretty bad headache but the next two days I felt amazing. It’s funny because my purpose of the fast wasn’t for anything weight loss or health related but more of a way to get close to God as I’m a born again Christian. However, I am considering adopting this into a way of my every day life as I really enjoyed the benefits of fasting.
I fast everyday 18 hours to 20 and some times i don’t eat for two days my memory just amazing my problem solving skills having gone up so much it’s crazy
Yea. I like take exams on a 24-36 hour fast now because of the damn mental clarity it gives me. It is insane. I honestly thought I had ADHD but with fasting and removing simple carbs my mental clarity has gone up. Honestly some days I want to just skip eating because I have better moods on that day as well as the mental clarity.
I get jealous when I hear about all the benefits from some people. I have tried fasting off & on for over three years, all different levels, and all different nutrition sources with all the different hour levels of fasting. I get negative results across the board, without exception.

I eat my last meal at 1800hrs then early the next mood go to the gym and do a heavy weights session (for example) - I then can’t eat until 1000hrs but I was always of the opinion it was really important to eat straight after a workout (especially protein) - how would you make this work?
Good conversation. I remember being overweight from age 7 to 13. I fasted basically to lose the weight. Only ate 800 calories a day and noticed huge energy spikes, more power and became sharper like the doctor mentioned in this video. I was always better than others at sports or academics just because of how my engine ran. I believe fasting and eating one meal a day was big time for my success. Still to this day I fast normally at least 24 hours then eat and repeat.

Ya I say BS, also you must be really skinny in order to do that, because any fast over 3 days runs the risk of your body breaking down muscle to convert into energy. The best fasts are 36-72 hours
