For the fasting to work do you need to be awake for part of it? If i eat at 8pm latest then go to bed at 12 wake at 12 midday does that still count or will i not benefit fully despite fasting 16 hours?
Dear Jason, you are so spot on about salt and diabetes. Only problem with this video is the assumption that cholesterol has anything to do with heart disease. All it it is doing is fixing the micro scarring, nicks and tears - which are like potholes - caused by seed oils, processed pretend foods, carb, alcohol, sugar overloads. The oldest people have the most cholesterol and it makes up over 80% of brain matter, being essential for the creation of the mylin sheath that insulates nueronal pathways, a lack it is linked epileptic fits and Alzheimers. But you probably know this.
I am a medical doctor. Unfortunately at medical school we are not taught about the benefits of fasting. I have learnt lots from dr fung and dr Pradeep jamnadas on RU-vid and have started to recommend this treatment to my patients. I myself now do 16/18:8 intermittent fasting and a low carb diet and have experienced first hand significant health benefits. The problem is society go to the doctor and asked to be fixed. They don’t want to take responsibility for there own health.
I can guarantee that NO ONE is going to do this…. Unless they know how good it is for them. I applaud you for informing your patients. I wish I could get other medical doctors to do the same. To paraphrase several medical professionals I know personally: “My patients are all too stupid. I’ll withhold this life saving information.”
@@martykerns3802 no one is going to do this because they would rather wait until it's too late... Instead of practicing preventative self care they will wait until they have a radical issue that needs to be fixed
@@wombat7961 What should I tell dozens of people I know who have done this and do not have serious health problems??? Because of your use of the term “no one.” Geez.
My triglycerides dropped from 258 to 153 in only 4 months on IF. My total cholesterol is now in normal range. I can’t wait to get bloodwork done again at my yearly physical to see how much further I can get the triglycerides down without statins. My doctor called me shocked asking how I did it. My A1C dropped to 5.1 too and I’m no longer pre-diabetic! I’ve been taking berberine with IF for 4 months and I’m down 42.9lbs. Dr Fung has literally changed my life and I’m excited to see how far I can go to get healthy again. I’d like to lose another 40lbs and I’m confident I can do it with IF and Dr Fungs videos for inspiration! THANK YOU DR FUNG ❤

Agreed, I started taking fasting seriously two years ago after watching your video's. In addition to losing 5 stone (32.5Kg), over those two years, just before Christmas, I had my latest 6-month Cholesterol check, which has traditionally been followed by an instruction to do more about my high cholesterol and come back in 6 months. Not this time, they said "you're good now, let's check again in 3 years time. I just turned 60 by the way so fasting can help at any age.
I get a health check for work every year and every year, no matter what I've weighed, my cholesterol has been high. I've been fasting for 3 months and just got checked. My cholesterol numbers are 60 points better than any other year, even the year I weighed 15 lbs. Less than this year. I don't know why it works, but it does.
I was having problems losing weight so I instituted intermittent fasting. I lost to a certain level and just stopped. I couldn't figure out why. I have watched a ton of these videos and have finally come to the same conclusions that Mr. Fung has been talking about. I kept increasing my fasting periods and settled on 48 hours two times a week! I still gained back to the same weight as I started the previous fast. Well I realized from taking my blood sugar and ketones that my ketones would go low and glucose would go high... Well, a light finally went on. I decided on 3 specific times that I would eat on my non-fasting days and zero snacks in between and wow, everything normalized and I've lost close to 15 pounds in the past 3 weeks. My blood sugars stay low and ketones stay up!! I have come to the realization that, snacks, no matter if they are healthy or not, keep glucose elevated. To get glucose down and ketones up one needs to not eat snacks at all. At least for me. This is my experience and I just wish I had figured it out a long time ago!!! I firmly believe that it's not just sugar or just insulin, but lowering sugar raises ketones and lowers insulin they all work together to help or hinder. I'm no doctor, but once I took that into account my weight loss has been more consistent. Just an aside, I do resistance training 4 times a week. I really do not think that has anything to do with my weight loss or blood numbers as I have been weight training for the past 7 years. Thanks to Mr. Fung and others, my blood pressure has gone down to normal ranges and I have lowered my blood sugar to normal for a non-T2D (I have T2D), and I'm about 15 more pounds from my goal weight. Oh yeah, I had been diagnosed with hypertension way back in 1986, and now it's finally normal without meds!!!
I’ve been following Jason for about a year, slowly added Intermittent fasting into my keto, Low Carb plan.. One year im Down 115 lbs Cholesterol down, blood pressure is normal and Doc has taken me of BP meds… thank you
The weight loss is great but the health benefits are amazing! Some of the many benefits of fasting on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data: Thymus stem cells are regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system. Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic. Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque. Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy! Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus. It's absolutely fine for cortisol to be high while fasting, because it produces sugar from fat instead of lean tissue ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-giEDadzoErs.html The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state. It stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses. Does fasting burn muscle? In most cases no! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-teQIaU6wp2o.html Fasting can make you gain muscle faster: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5RM8GRzsIIg.html Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention! Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BeC_gIR2Z14.html Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections. After 72 hours or more fasted, your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging. Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. In fact, the biochemical precursor to BDNF is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting. Autophagy induced by fasting even helps hair regrow. What breaks a fast? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7aRLsCpxy3o.html Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period. Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks. Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility especially in women with PCOS. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice. I'm 47 and was 290 lbs ...feeling like I am 67 I discovered fasting and am in week 5 of OMAD . I've lost 18 lbs and have recently started cutting my calories in the one meal. My sleep has gotten better. My joint pain has stopped. My food budget has been cut dramatically as my wife is doing 16 and 8 with 2 meals. I am eating once. Fasting has been the "miracle pill" everyone wished existed and its better then FREE.... it pays you to do it. My goal is 225 lbs at ( 6ft 5in). Once there I will start eating two meals in an 18 and 6 lifestyle. I can never go back to the way I was.
Been doing 16/8 for 2 months and have lost about 4 lbs - hubby has lost about 6 BUT my weight was going UP and UP and nothing was stopping it until now. Yes, 100% agree, this seems to be the 'miracle pill' ! I was ALWAYS hungry before, now I feel satiated after meals, our food bill is down too, and I still have a glass or 2 of wine at the end of the day, and I STILL lost weight. Like you, I feel I can do this forever, despite thinking I'd be feral without breakfast. Seriously, it does feel like a miracle. I'll bet you feel a big difference after 30 lbs - even the 4 lbs lost have made a difference to me. Cheers and best wishes for your ongoing success!
3 years ago my weight had ballooned to 218 pounds. At 5'8 that is quite heavy even though I am quite muscular. My blood pressure was bordering on dangerous, my cholesterol was high and my doctor was really starting to push the meds. I had tried everything, juicing, more salads, supplements etc. and I am a naturally very active person. I finally tried Keto and my weight dropped like a stone. I was in 188 in about 10 weeks. At some point over those weeks I also added intermittent fasting after reading the Obesity Code. I moderated my diet to low carb rather than strictly keto and continued on until I saw my Dr. again about 6 months later. My LDL had dropped 20%! My blood pressure was optimal! My doctor was stunned! I have kept 20 of the 30 lost pounds off and hopefully Ontario comes out of lockdown at some point so I can check my progress again.
I had high cholesterol 2.25 g/l and thanks to intermittent fasting went back to 1.74 g/l in 3 month. Thank you Dr Jason, you improved my life, I owe you.
After years of taking a statin, I continuously had higher cholesterol numbers, low "bad" LDL and higher triglycerides. After a year of IF and "modified" keto, all my blood labs show normal readings. I'm a believer.
Thank you for your comment. It really calms me. My blood work has come back with high LDL possibly genetic. Knowing someone was successful with IF gives me hope.
Im 19 and weigh 190 pounds. I've been recommended all forms of "FAD DIETS" by people around me but I was always against all of those because I didn't wanna develop eating disorders just to look good. But finally I found just the thing that is not detrimental to my health and I find doable. I CAN do it for THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!All thanks to you , Dr. Fung. Its just been 2 weeks and I feel so good. I feel more energetic and focused. I am able to study with better concentration. I don't go out of breath anymore while walking(For an hour!). All thanks to you. THANKYOU DR. FUNG. Even I aspire to be as good of a doctor as you are and help people both directly and indirectly. Thankyou so much! ☺️❤️
I was in a traumatic environment that almost killed me. Heart palpitations has a big indicator. Left the environment, did lots of health and exercise changes. Dr's said i was stressed. I was but not mentaly. They tried to give me anti-depresant drugs. I said that's not the problem. Cardiologist said I'm fine. Heart monotor said it was a premature beat. It was scary. I've had it every since intermittentaly. 1 per week to 1 per day. It varied. Went one meal a day for the past two weeks. Lots of fat and low carb. Lots of meat. It has gone away for these two weeks. TY so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've experienced this first hand .. total cholesterol went from 240 to 204 and LDL from 143 to 113.. prediabetic to normal hemoglobin and sugar.. along with the fast I was also doing HIIT cardio and moderate strength training just before my eating window. I included healthy fats such as half an avocado and soluble fiber such cucumbers in my DAILY diet. These results were achieved in 6 months 16-8 fasting.
IMHO, you don't even need HIIT cardio, moderate cardio OR LISS (low-intensity steady state training), like rucking, before the eating window will work as well.

Now since the beginning of the year I still do OMAD and eat low carb high fat but now I'm only skipping one day a week entirely...I think I'm still losing tho so I'll have to see how it goes... thanks for asking and best of luck to you!🙏
I have yet to get my blood tested out by my doctors but starting about 5 months ago I've started to do 36-48 hour fasts every week as well, and stay within 18:6 for the other days, and I feel so much better. I am excited to see what my blood will show one I do see the doctor next.
@@williamtanamal3912 We didn't get into anything like that. He didn't know what to think when I told him I fasted. It's something they never deal with. Fasting is like alternative medicine. They want to be seen as mainstream, etc. Anyway, if everyone fasted the incidence of disease would plummet and most of them would be out of work.
It’s been almost 5 months for me. I’ve gone from 210lbs, borderline cholesterol, to 167lbs (11cms off hips, 10cms off waist) and healthy labs. I’ve had a 10 day holiday, birthday cake and celebrations… a few days where I tracked nothing and didn’t fast, but these moments take up 20% of my life. The other 80% of the time I’m low carb, fasting 20hrs+ and under 1,000 calories. I finally have balance. The goal is 145lbs (I’m 5’7). Jason and Mindy Pelz has changed my life.
Thanks to Dr Fung, I got introduced to intermittent fasting and started it last Oct. 2021. In three months, when I had my blood tests done in December, my A1C is down to 6.2, cholesterol and triglycerides are all within normal ranges. Working with my PCP, I’m off metformin (diabetes meds) and we have reduced in half my cholesterol meds . In three months time, I’ll have my blood tests again and I have no doubt that I can continue not taking diabetes meds and hopefully, not take cholesterol meds as well. If the March 2022 bloodwork proves otherwise, I’ll just be back to my regular meds. I am very certain that I won’t. Intermittent fasting is the best advice to reverse diabetes and improve cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, and good sleep
Am I the only one who 'likes' Dr. Fung's videos even before he begins?!!! Thanks Dr. Fung your comprehensive yet simplified videos have helped me tremendously. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this information Dr. Fung. I've started IF and in just over a month, I've dropped 14 pounds. I'm currently taking BP medication. I recently before I started watching your videos had my blook work done on my annual physical. I look forward to seeing the great progress I can make over the year before my next yearly physical. I have a long journey to go, but I look at your videos as a compass to get me where i need to go. I will be 55 in March and this is the year I take my health back!
*Hi Doc i just wanted to share my exp. I have been doing IF for 3 years ( 18:6) without fail i have lost 70lbs and i m happy however 3 months back i got my blood work done and i was shocked to learn my cholesterol touch the roof. I kept thinking what could be the reason as i m very cautious of what i eat(nothing fried) then i realised i eat 3 eggs each day 5 days a week with my salad . So i reduced my egg intake to almost 75% and got my blood work done and boom its back to a normal reading. So i want everyone to understand though we are religiously fasting eating the wrong food might sure cause harm.and again i cant thank you enough for all your efforts*
I have read that having a cholesterol test during a longer fast gives a high reading, and it’s best to decrease fasting window to 14 or 13 hours for 4 days before testing.
Thank you Dr Fung and I can anecdotally speak to this as intermittent fasting 17:7 over about 12 months back in 2018 reduced my bad cholesterol and triglycerides levels by approx 35% per my blood panels at dr appointments. Press on good sir
My God.... you are right on time. I've been indulging too much these last three weeks. BP higher than usual. I have to get back to intermittent fasting.
Good evening..I have been watching your videos for 3 months. I am currently under doctor care for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I am now at my ideal weight after losing 40 pounds. Thank you, Dr. Fung 👍. The world needs more doctors like you. Now, how do you convince highly resistant people that fasting is a great lifestyle change and not a negative thing?
I'm intermittent fasting (primarily OMAD or 2MAD at most a feeding window of 6 hours). In addition to low refined carbohydrate, drastically if not go almost completely eliminated sugar, no alcohol, never smoked. I am down from 330 to 280 in two and a half months. (Down from 350 at my heaviest) I fully intend to get down to 225.
I first learned about the power of fasting from your great teaching, Dr. Fung. It has now become a regular part of my lifestyle. I first used fasting as a tool for fat loss, but these days I especially enjoy the mental clarity I derive from it.
It's great that fasting fits into my daily schedule. I skip breakfast because too busy getting ready for work. At 10am eat brunch then 2 hours later lunch then 2 hours later dinner or skip dinner altogether.. so, between 10am and 6pm, I eat. After 6pm, fast until next 10am
Thank you Dr. Fung! I have your book The Obesity Code and The Cancer Code. I've rewatched your RU-vid lectures on fasting very often, as motivation when doing extended fasting and send as a recommendation when trying to convert family and friends to the fasting lifestyle. Thank you, your knowledge is life changing!!!
Hello, Doctor. With the hours I work I do 11 am breakfast, 3:15 small snack, and 6:30 - 7 pm dinner. My doctor told me that reversing diabetes via diet won't work. I stopped eating all carbs and sugar. Metformin almost killed me, It constantly made me so sick, I was eating Pepto Bismol like smarties. I ditched it and I started taking Berberine, Benfortiamine, and R-Lipoic Acid instead. I've lost 9 pounds and my blood glucose has improved a lot. I feel so much better.
I always appreciate the information I receive from this channel. It's so simple yet I keep stressing out about fasting. I'm going to have to in order to reach my weight goal. It's time. I got this. Thank you Dr. Fung.
I never eat before noon. Only very small and zero carbs then. Then I eat at 5pm and nothing till noon the next day. NO SNACKING. When I do a 24 hour fast, I simply just omit that noon snack. Very easy to do especially if I'm busy. Lots of water and coffee get me through and keep hunger away. Fasting is empowering!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge on you tube, You have saved many lives, I'm sure. I share your information with several family members and friends ! God bless you for your work, Jason !

My wife and I are OMAD for over 2 years now. Eating period like 4 to 7 pm. Being fat adapted makes this easy. Plenty of energy all day and what I call normalized hunger.
You eat 1 meal for 3 hours or you eat little by little during the 3 hours or during that 3 hour window you sit down and eat 1 meal last 15 to 20 minutes???
@@DrAJ_LatinAmerica If they're truly doing OMAD then the entire meal gets consumed at one sitting. Otherwise it's equal to a very short 3 hour eating window! (Which is very good also, but not considered as OMAD.😊)
@@gloriamaryhaywood2217 yes I know this. I asked because many are very confused about OMAD and eating windows and even micronutrients / electrolytes outside of the window and a million other things. Always interesting to ask and view the responses.
Dr Fung YOU are a ROCK STAR!!! I hope you go on the road with this information particularly communities where dialysis centers are as common as post offices...😶 Anyway...thank you so very much for your passion and dedication...🙏🏽
I was always fit and athletic. 29 my triglycerides went x2. By 34 x6 normal being same weight. I never ate breakfast. Docs put me on statins. Reduced only to 4x normal. They said its genetic. I did IF OMAD 3 months no statins and my triglycerides went back to 2x normal after 8 yrs. Same BMI and do healthy keto with still more swimming.
I have started intermittent fasting (168) everyday since end of June last year. Hoping to reduce my cholesterol level which was 7.2 at that time and my GP asked me to take Satin. Since fasting, I have lost about 4 kg and now I am 46kg, 1.57cm tall. I practise high fat low Carbs during my fasting for 6 months. I did another blood test last December and looked forward to a lower cholesterol level. However the index is much higher at 7.9. My GP asked me to take Satin again. I feel frustrated and don’t understand why my cholesterol isn’t going down 😔
Cholesterol does increase on a low carbohydrate diet, however the important thing is to cut out trans- fats, and any other sugar related food too. Intermittent fasting, exercise, good sleep, less stress and keto diet helps reduce bad cholesterol.
Great video again. I would love if you could talk about LDL and how it may go up when intermittent fasting and low carb. A more extensive lipid panel with your doctor will show better results.
I would like Dr Fung to make a video about why LDL rises on fasts. My small particle LDL is up as well as ApoB after 6 mos of 16:8 with several 3 day fasts. I eat mainly plant based, EVOO, some salmon, no gluten or dairy.
I've been practicing fasting and unfortunately due to my genetic predisposition my LdL is still very high with a total cholesterol around 400. All my other numbers were excellent and the rest of my bloodwork came back unremarkable. My Dr is of course recommending meds. I eat a very clean diet, exercise and fast regularly. It's disheartening to require meds, but I also don't want a heart attack 😞
I wish I had Dr Fung in my life years ago.... If I need any information....any tips....or just a boost to keep me on track I always come back to his videos. Plus his voice is lovely and very soothing ✨ 💕
I'm not sure about the reducing LDL/Cholesterol thing. It seems many/most people doing a healthy Keto and/or carnivore style eating see increases in LDL and Cholesterol. And many by quite a bit. Also newer studies are suggesting that higher levels of Cholesterol/LDL might not be so bad. Lower Trigs YES but again this is one that does go down on a healthy Keto diet. And then there's the Lean Mass Hyper Responder type.
All things has to be person by person, case by case basis. Correct that no one size fits all. Each person will have different health conditions, genetics, and lifestyle. Fasting helps many and can kill others and many for some no positive but no negative affect. For some it causes urge to binge, for a type 1 it might cause very low blood sugar... His video too short to explain all details. These videos are made to get attention. Sometimes only telling people part of the story can be dangerous.
Just shared your video with my 87 year old mother who CONSTANTLY tells me “You HAVE to eat breakfast!” When I tell her that I am not hungry at 430AM (I work a 530am-2pm shift at the hospital) she STILL insists that I need to eat “Something!” She follows the “grazing all day” style of eating and, for an 87 year old, 5’3” woman, she weighs about 108 pounds. (Not fat at all) However, she IS on Losarton for her BP which confuses me. I just recently did my “biometric screening” for my employer (a very large hospital attached to a huge Big Ten university who gives everyone a much lower rate on their health insurance coverage if you do this annually.) I grew up in the 1970s-born in 1964-and my cholesterol is good, my BP is good (as long as I take MY 100mg Losarton pill each morning!) my blood sugar level is well within normal range-not pre-diabetic-but this time my TRIGLYCERIDES were actually too high for the nurses instrument to measure. That means it’s OVER 500! I did tell the nurse I had eaten lunch about 3 hours before the appointment-a big bowl of Asian cuisine (purple rice, cabbage, mushrooms, chicken, and some sort of sauce which was delicious) but this meal came off a “food truck” which I almost NEVER get food from, just because I don’t like spending 10 dollars on lunch, and I washed this all down with a 20oz Coke! I asked her if this might be the reason my triglycerides were literally “off the charts,” and she said that yes, that certainly could have had an effect, but I know my triglycerides are ALWAYS high, usually in the 300+ range. I’m 6’1” and weigh about 220 so I know I need to lose weight (I was 180 lbs during HS and after Marine Corps boot camp in the early to mid 1980’s) but is it my eating too much fried foods causing that? I’m guilty of loving chicken wings and burritos, etc…but I don’t eat after 6PM on normal work days, because I’m usually in bed by 8pm. My mother, on the other hand, eats mountains of sweets like cookies, chocolate, homemade rice pudding, etc…ALL DAY and her triglycerides are fine? I know I need to workout more (heck, I work in a sports medicine clinic’s physical therapy department!) but aside from the fried foods and lack of real exercise (I work in an office setting so I’m NOT on my feet all day working with PT patients) what can I do to lower these dang triglycerides? I’m 57 and I don’t “look” Overweight, though I know I am. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with everyone.
High triglycerides are indicative of too much carb/sugar consumption. A good goal according to cardiologist Dr. William Davis is 15 net grams of carbs per meal, with the meals spaced 6 hours apart and no snacking in between. That's what it takes to get your triglycerides down to an optimal level of about 60 mg/dL. I think if you were to take an honest look at your diet you would realize that there is lots of room for improvement. Also, you should always fast 10 - 12 hours before getting lipid blood work done. Water only, and if you need to take certain medications while fasting for your blood tests, that's OK too.
@@Malcolm-Achtman Absolutely agree with your entire statement. Cutting sugar and drastically lowering carbs is what will dial down his triglycerides. And Chugging that 20 oz Coke sure did NOT Help things!!😝 #YIKES!😬😳
@@Malcolm-Achtman I appreciate your reply. And yes, my diet has WAY too many carbs but I honestly think my sugar intake is lower than 80 % of the average person. (Although my alcohol intake has risen in the last couple of months) but I will try to get a good, 12 hour fasting before, retest. I thank you for your reply. 👍
@@gregusmc2868 Remember, as far as your body's metabolic response is concerned, most carbs, once ingested, may as well be sugar. Besides Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. David Unwin has some good RU-vid info on this. Alcohol intake is another issue with more and more evidence piling up on its link to cancer.
I just stumbled across your page I can’t even remember the person who mentioned to you. However, I am so ready to make changes to my life. I am considered obese, body pain, was told I had PCOS, and I have a strong strong addiction to sugar. At 53 years old if I keep going this route I know the outcome is not going to be good. Where do I begin? I am ready to change my life and change it for good.
1.Watch all of Dr Fung’s videos. 2. Watch all of Dr Ken Berry’s videos. 3. Cut out sugar and carbs. 4. Slowly increase your fat intake because it can cause diarrhea if your gut is unhealthy. The increased fat will curb sugar and carb cravings. 5. Only eat animal products. 6. Eat beef, fish, pork, chicken, including the fat. 7. Drink lots of water. 8. Liberally use salt on your food to overcome the keto flu effects. 9. Fast between meals. Start with shorter fasts and extend them over time, so you’re fasting at least 16 hours a day. 10. Research, research, research 11. Read people’s success stories. 12. If you fall off the wagon, climb back on. 13 Start now. Good luck!
no snacks, no vegetable oils, limit sugar and wheat as much as possibe. Basically meat and two veg for meals, or similar. Eat to satiation when you eat but only do it at set meal times. 36-96 hour fasts for quicker weight loss.
Mmm cholesterol is not a cardiovascular biomarker risk factor… i mean it is only if your triglycerides are above normal range (150mg/dl) but to put it on example if your doing a ketogenic diet combine with fasting your cholesterol can go above the 200mg/dl mark but that doesn’t mean is bad, even at 300.
