Dan Carlin is an amateur historian and former radio talk show host. He now hosts two popular podcasts available on iTunes, or through his website, to download: Common Sense and Hardcore History. dancarlin.com
John Doe I followed up with a book he mentioned, about how Verdun is still a no-go zone, it's so poisoned and full of potentially deadly shells… suddenly, a whole hundred years ain't long enough to clean up after such a war.
Michael Collins I do, I bought it. "Aftermath: the remnants of war", by Donovan Webster. It's quite an eye-opener. If you feel like I did, listening to the horrors of mud-war… well, there's actually nothing I can say. Except that I feel it must be realized, time and again, how undesirable, if, in hindsight fascinating, war actually is. So: keep it up, good luck.
00:00 -Rogan (uncharacteristically) becomes juvenile who first discovers how 'cool' it is to throw f'bombz into an otherwise intelligent discussion then essentially smears feces all over the content of the interview - totally disrespecting his guest and his listening audience who moved on from junior high decades ago.

I'm currently trying to find the timestamp of where Carlin talks about writing thoughts down in notebooks and how one little idea you write down can change your whole life
Grant McDougall that’s generational moneys more that making ur single year, joe been positive energy for years it’s more than 100$ that’s the number out
@michael11258 I don't make that statement lighty, there's a few key details for instance using establishment talking points during 2020 and recommending Biden And then being rewarded with Tom Hanks interview afterwards that's how these work, some times its very subtle
Yes I agree - it's too bad Rogan acted like a juvenile who has just discovered the 'f' bomb and can't restrain hisself from throwing it into an otherwise intelligent discourse. All I got out of this exchange is how immature and disrespectful Rogan was with Carlin - was/ is he jealous of Carlin's intelligence or what??
Every High School and entry level college History need to have Dan Carlin podcasts on The syllabus. His Wrath of the Khans and the World War I are my favorite pods ever.
Thomas Sorensen Same, although to be fair, perhaps we should judge audio books to the same standart as Hardcore History, given that his works are more like those, given both length and thoroughness :)
….too bad Mr. Carlin's performance, his message, is buried by Mr. Rogan's juvenile expletives throughout the podcast. It's not intelligent, not cool, it's ...juvenile and it's disrespectful of his guests to drag important dialogue into the middle school lunch room.

@@thor9563 are you agreeing with yourself here or what? From what I've seen, "Mr. Rogan" always talks like that and it's his show. Don't act like Dan Carlin is a saint or even a historian who can't handle some "f-bombs"
I had one who came close. Needless to say, he spent five times as long on each topic than what the curriculum demanded, so we never advanced to the modern age. I'm still thankful for all his anecdotes that made history come alive.
Man I really needed this today! I own a small business and have had a hard time getting motivated lately. I started this podcast first thing this morning and it has already paid off. While stretching I found my St Christopher that I lost two months ago, it was under my bed! I have 200 brand new trash cans being delivered today. Gonna go kick the snot out of Waste Management and finish the year strong. Have a good day everyone, make it count!

the sad part is Joe, I work for a custom woodwork and cabinet making shop....but the job is still soul killing. There's no creativity involved, I have to follow all their plans and blueprints. Which sucks because Ive been an avid woodworker for a long time and I love to be creative. So i'm working on starting my own business in the new couple years, and podcasts like this definitely inspire me to get out of the mundane grind
theres so many options for you in this day and age man. its now easier than ever to get your own website personalized to your liking. you can start a business without having to leave the house!
Truman Dorn Your post was 7 months ago, I encourage to do your thing & hope that you have been able to get away from the soul sucking part of your work & now have an outlet to express yourself & be creative!!!
I agree that Dan Carlin is an important thinker and communicator. It's too bad Rogan flipped into Junior High mode and like a juvenile who has discovered how to swear, throws 'f' bombz into the discourse and in effect, smears Carlin's interview with immature feces. That's what I took away from this - how disrespectful!! Rogan is better than this!
1:43:00 I'm nearing the 100,000 subs on a Channel I started half a year ago, when I absolutely HATED every inch and corner of my life. This specific podcast got me trough the hard times. I love Dan and Joe so much.

Dan Carlin is not one of the most brilliant minds in the world...but he is super wise. He would make a great leader, one who knows what brilliant minds he listens to.
ahh Duncan that one and only warm-blooded reptilian. I went on a binge-listen to all of the JRE Duncan episodes since the very beginning of the podcast and this is the longest time he haven't been on, but it's understable since his move to NY.
FYI The picture at 1:12:15 of the boy being attacked by the dog might not be what it seems. In an interview the boy who the news called The Foot soldier told the interviewer that he wasn't a protester. He was just trying to get through the demonstration going somewhere else. The police officer also didn't attack him outright. The boy passed too close to the dog and the dog being so amped up from the crowd, snapped. The officer was trying to get him away. Hence the reason why the leash was tight and pulled back. Neither one of them had any intention of being objectified in this way. Check out the Revisionist History podcast by Malcolm Gladwell for the interview and more info. RU-vid version of the episode in question: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TNPJVKemwKM.html All this being said, I'm not saying it's not a powerful moment. Far from it. I just think context is important in every thing.
Dan Carlin is always an amazing guest. He brings out incredible conversations from Joe Rogan and, frankly, makes people think. Subtle genius. Carlin is so good at telling these gory stories. I'd love to see him sit down and have a conversation with Jordan B Peterson, who is also very well-read in the area of oppressive dictators and genocide.
Bert236 i agree but i feel like ive learned alot more and have taken a liking to new things more in the last year then when they started but most of the early hundreds were gold
It blows my mind how little knowledge Joe has on most topics even at the most basic level. We see someone successful and in contact with so many brilliant people and assume he himself has significant knowledge. However really Joe is just an uneducated comedian/retired fighter without much world knowledge outside of his area of expertise and not much classical education. Just goes to show anybody can make it out there despite how ignorant they are as long as you have a captivating personality. Joe very clearly doesn’t do much substantial reading and has very little world knowledge even of things he’s interested in like cars.
I’m glad I watched this video. I’m at a time in my life where I’m getting out of the army and to be honest I’ve been doubting my decision. It’s scary getting out honestly cause in the military you do have a steady paycheck and health care. But I hate it and my family has been trying to talk me out of it for those reasons. But I got to think about me and listening to these two guys made me feel better about it. Sometimes going for your dreams are scary but I’m excited at the same time to start this chapter of my life !!!!!!!!
One very easy way to promote and teach creativity within the school system is to just leave schools open and staffed until 10 pm. Make the school a place kids can always be and learn if or what they want to. There are enough teachers looking for jobs and too many kids not having the resources to learn or just a safe place to be.
hamster in the machine Nah, I don't trust Jordan Peterson and his pseudoscientific abstract unfalsifiable verbal salad. His was great at defending freedom of speech, but that's about it. I would rather have Sam Harris every 100 episode
Sam Harris is very intelligent. But Sam Harris is about as exciting to listen to as watching paint dry. Dan carlin is the king of king when it comes to podcasts!

This dan carlin guy sounds very naggy & heavily opinionated in this podcast like he's trying to browbeat us into agreeing with his knee-jerk opinions on everything, but maybe he lightens up doing the history stuff.
Yappy Raccoon I don't think he is opinionated. Naggy, maybe a little but that to me is more of a "please look to the past to see what the hell happens when this stuff happens" kind of a nag. When he talks about current events he tries to compare if you will, to past events that were somewhat similar. I think he has a lot of good points and some of them he may have to nag a bit to make you consider. Very few people that I follow or listen to do I ever pause the video or audio and go do some research and come back to continue listening.
Silverfox Hoffos2vp I tried listening to a Dan Carlin video called Celtic holocast and I fell into a deep sleep as he nagged endlessly about what people should die for and I woke up an hour later with him still droning on. I tried again and fell asleep immediately again. And I like history especially from Roman era, dark ages and medieval era.

@@MikeZ-on5lb Thanks for the reply mr. z - I am disappointed that it seems his audience must be around the junior high age or so judging by his demeanor. He would do well to skip the inappropriate filth - it simply detracts from the subject and it is very disrespectful of his guest and of any adults that might tune in.
@@thor9563 I agree good sir! Yeah you can tell sometimes these ppl commenting or replying are not that smart or they get mad if you talk shit about Almighty Joe Rogan... but yeah it's usually when someone's on that's smart hell change the subject every 2 seconds and cut them off to say something no one cares about... I hate when he has eddie bravo on now too he acts like hes stupid or making stuff up and is always like "Who's They Eddie!!" And he knows what he means the random ass ppl that nobody knows about who are controlling everything how the fuck is Eddie gonna know their names. I cant even watch the new ones mostly bc hes been repeating the same BS about the virus and FLOYD for literally 5 months and I dont even want to hear it anymore it's annoying so I keep watching old good Eps, but I know what you mean man, Fuck Em!!
Chanel Wilson his podcast is called "Hardcore History" you can probably find it on Google Play or iTunes also there's a few episodes on RU-vid. They're awesome
24:00 - NO, Photoshop does not "break anything down into layers". Every photo starts as one SINGLE layer image and you may add layers to it if you like.
dogisnotreal1 I think whoever told Joe the layers thing, was describing it to him in a simpler way without getting over Joe's head. What he really meant was channels
Channels are colors like RGB / CMYK, nothing to do with layers. A scanned image is bit-mapped. Photoshop dooesn't create layers or can even open a PDF in layers. It will rasterize the document as a flattened image. The only way for layers to exist in a old scanned document is to intentionally create them.
I'm so bored with my life right now. I am in a space of emptiness. I wish I could put what they said in this podcast into effect with my life. They make it sound so easy. I really do want to change and be self serving, but I feel like I have nothing to give. I will try. As you two said, "You must at least try"...try I will. Right now. I will try. Thank you.
Jesse C glad you’re doing well or at least better bro. I’m in the same situation. Happily married but my job is killing me, I feel so low and I can’t see a way out. But I’m trying t wrote a novel and look for a new job.... wish me luck lol. I hope you are all safe and well and finding happiness x
How to start a business: Step 1.) Make a thing Step 2.) Take a picture of the thing Step 3.) Send Joe the picture as a Twitter post Step 4.) Joe re-tweets the post Step 5.) "Do-do-do-do-do-do-do." - Joe Rogan Step 6.) You've got a business!
Timothy Stormann I no longer tolerate these filthy, subhuman hatchet wounds that are nothing more than Liberal Terrorists™. I watched her for the first 25 minutes or so, imagining the many ways she could be tied up and fucked, before she revealed she is an anti American domestic enemy, before I immediately tuned the fuck out.
I actually made it to 40ish minutes somehow. I think I did it by concentrating on the brick wall in the back ground. Oh and also drugs, I took a lot of drugs.
Imagine how much better educated our youth would be if every teacher showed the kind of enthusiasm that Dan does for history.Having someone teach that's passionate about a subject is half the battle. My best teachers always had little stories that would raise interest in a topic.I really like listening to Dan,as his storytelling method is unique and his topics are of real interest to me.
Honestly, the only reason I listen to podcasts is because it is so 2d.. You can play a game, drive, clean, cook, run and listen to a podcast at the same time
Bro this comment shattered my cerebral cortex into a thousand fractall diamonds that reshaped into a dolphin that splashed through the grey matter of my mind
Eyada is the radio site Joe brought up? F4wonline did podcasts before they were in, but its a pay site, really worth the price if youre into how crazy the pro wrestling world is.
That was Joe's fault. He is obsessed with bringing stand up comedian friends who are not good guests. Friendship blinds us all I guess... Ari Shaffir was the male equivalent to Iliza.
History is fucking amazing. Love it. Love hearing about it. Happy I finally started watching Joe Rogan and seeing all these different people speak on these amazing things!!!

Galaxy Ssix he's taken 5 grams dried mushrooms and has become enlightened and is a painter/motivational speaker at the moment along with acting. He knows things we all need to know
This podcast has inspired me so much and opened my eyes to get out there and pursue my dreams instead of sitting on sideline and just becoming another lemming. Thanks joe and dan! Much appreciation!
One of the best political conversations I've heard on the JRE. Dan Carling is one of the most open minded and insightful educators on the internet at this moment in time. He is also one of the only people I have heard successfully debate Sam Harris on foreign policy and Islamic extremism. I just want to thank all you guys; Joe Rogan, Sam Harris, Dan Carling, Jordan Peterson etc. for choosing to spend your life looking for truth and for subsequently sharing it with us mere mortals. Your changing the West for the better.
I hate when people try to say how much of a racism problem we have, we really dont. How many actual white supremacists do you personally know? The KKK has less than 3000 members nation wide. There are more trans species hemophiliac children with learning disabilities than there are KKK members. And him pushing that there are millions and millions of white supremacists in our midst is not helping
Dook Dook I'm 32. I live in the south ( allegedly the most racist place on Earth) and ive met literally thousands of people and I can only think of a handful that are actually racist. I dont need a Huffington post article to explain that
Gullible people like Joe think it's actually an issue because the mainstream media keeps telling him it is and the left are DESPERATE for a boogeyman. And the best they can come up with is a 30-something year old, anti-war, history major: Richard Spencer. LMAO.
Only racist stuff I see is when I go down town...from blacks and its nigga nigga nigga yo yo yo and other than movies, videos and music its not a lot....whites keep it under their breath for some reason. scarred of zion lawyers I guess
In tens years he'll invest in a contraption that slowly drops from the ceiling, TWICE AN EPISODE, and applies an organic grass fed herbal polish and wax to his head, giving off a shine equivalent to that of the sun. CALLING IT. #2027 #BALDISBEAUTIFUL #POWERFUL
I love hardcore history, Dan Carlin I love his podcast on Japan, amazing extremely value in how extreme Japanese culture was nearing, during and even after WW2.
I learn a lot from listening to Dan’s podcasts but I had the luck to have a very good history teacher at school for a couple of years - the guy got me hooked on History! Teachers and great communicators are paramount to trigger the interest in any subject matter!
Here's my personal fear, I would love to go all in with my business, but I have to support my family including a mother who is deaf, my wife with $2000/month in diabetes meds, 2 kids (one now other one is on her own now) who have $400/month in meds. If I fail in my business, my mother is out of a home, we can't afford the meds so my wife is likely to die and my son would be kicked out of school. My wife had a deli/bakery that was extremely popular, but unfortunately was not able to make enough money to keep it going (lots of reasons both internal and external) and if I didn't have a good job we would have been on the street. That's the fear. Just because you were able to jump out and had the talent to succeed in what you wanted to do doesn't mean that you just have to "Do it" and things will work out. FAR more often than not people fail when they do things like you've succeeded at. How many comedians are in the US, and then figure out how many make enough to live and further how many are truly successful? "Just Do It" doesn't work usually no matter how hard you work at it. There's plenty of people who don't want to work at things, it's true, but there are also plenty who work every day all day at what they want to do and still fail. My wife worked a minimum of 80 hrs/week (and I pitched in another 20-40 on top of my 60hr/week job), but when a local business opened a free cafeteria for their workers and the regulation changes (loosening them) added a bunch of home bakers to the market that could undercut pros at the same time it made it really hard to be successful. 70% of restaurants fail within the first 5 years, that can't mean that 70% of the people who start restaurants don't want to put in the work (I can easily see 30% though).
Thank you for commenting this! I'm really sorry that happened to you guys, but I'm very relieved at least someone is here to comment a warning. Every time people start talking like Joe and Dan were it stresses me out, since I've heard far too many stories about how badly striking out on your own can go. And just to top it all off, you've got Covid destroying so many small businesses this year. But even if Covid never hit your warning would be so important.
I needed to hear this podcast. I just left my soul destroying job after 14 years of it. I wanted a to play a new game but nothing out there was what i wanted to play, i had all these ideas about the games i would make if i had that job and i decided i would stop sitting there and get up and make my own dam game. I had some money saved and work had become unbarable, so i quit! And now im learning to make computer games walst making the game i always wanted to play im loving it but im so scared it will all fall apart and i have made a terable mistake. I think i would rather struggle to my dream than ever go back to that job!
Dan Carlin is my absolute favorite podcaster. And I really enjoy the way Joe Rogan interviews. I could literally listen to these to talk all day long. Their one 2 years before this is pretty fantastic too!
Im a 30 year old automotive tech that got fired 5 months ago for runnin my mouth at my boss.. i have 2 girls and one on the way. Been suffering since. Sitting here feeling sorry for myself.. when joe said "youre gonna be okay" a tear rolled down my face. I really hope so joe. These thoughts are rough.
