My band had a Sat night gig on the Sunset Strip in 92-93 and we played acoustic Americana rock. We refused to play and act like the hair bands that were still around at the time. The Black Crowes first record and people like Chris Whitley saved us from what I call poser rock. We helped save the authentic song based on, good groove based rock and I’m happy to see that rock concerts in 2024 are still in that vein.
Just saw him in Portland. It was ( they all were) really good and he is so good about making eye contact with the audience. Made it feel really personal. And one of the guitar picks landed on my arm!!
i met Jakob at the millinum center in winston salem NC and this girl i had a crush on in the 7th grade and her son i went back to the green room and met him he was so nice he autographed a dollar bill for both of them. Then the manager of the centers neice was there and she was a pharphlegic in a wheel chair and was in bad shape he ask me if i could get Jakobs AUTOGRAPH i said id try to do her one better so ask him if her would meet her and he said sure bring her back so i did he knelt down beside her and kissed he on the cheek and talked to her for what seemed like 30 mins he is such a great guy thank you Jakob for being the nicest guy i ever met
I grew up in the 90's but I've only been a fan for a few years. I think he's a great songwriter. I finally got to see The Wallflowers in May 2023 in Asbury Park, NJ. They were great live, fun show. Since Jakob Dylan is Bob Dylan's son, Tom Petty passing must've hit him hard, I'd imagine he was like an Uncle to him. Thought it was awesome how he closed w some Petty songs. And of course they covered a Bruce song too, being in NJ.
Jacob Dylan your song 6th Avenue Heartache really reminded me rough times at the post office I had route 6 struggling at the job. That song makes me cry everytime. Love your Music ❤
I'd love that because Bob Dylan is Bob Dylan. But I'd also hate it since Bob is the least talkative person in the whole wide world and it just would not go down well. Would be super awkward
I think Hendrix stayed in Stephen Stills Laurel Canyon house when he was in LA. Peter Tork and Mickey Dolenz were big players in the canyon as was Cass Elliott.
Joe has talked about Bob Dylan many times in the past so he likely is, he’s probably just being respectful in recognizing his guest as an artist and human in his own right.
I get not wanting to be connected to his Dad, but when they were talking about the Stones and artists that have never burned out, he could have said, "Yeah my dad has done it." I mean when your dad is the greatest writer of all time you can at least smile about it more.
I think it’s refreshing. Jakob is his own artist. He’ll acknowledge his Dad but not want to talk about growing up as his son non stop. Not like guys like Julian Lennon walking around with a portrait of his old man as an icebreaker so he can pick up chicks.
@@kevinfinnerty8414 I totally get what you’re saying and for sure agree. However, without riding his dad’s coattails, he could every now and again acknowledge his dad’s role in the industry he is in. Not for points, but just to be included in the conversation of great artists. Dylan is a legend. Jakob has already established his own legacy in music. Lennon’s wife and son are not even in the same ballpark as people or talent when compared to Dylan. Neither was Lennon. Lennon was a wanna-be Dylan.
I was part of the pay to play on the sunset strip. We were a band from San Diego at the time. I was the manager so I booked a buss and sold the seat which came with a ticket. Put a keg on the buss and we played a lot in LA. Mostly the San Diego scene. Free ride there and back. Good times
lol Jakob has the calmness only growing up a beloved millionaire rockstars son could provide. haha always enjoyed his work and i think i won a radio contest for his album that came out around 1999 . I was riding in the car with my old sister and her friends driving in the dark... out t in the countryside at night there were Auro Boriellus in the night sky the first and only time the sky was clear enough to witness in the upstate NY area...we were going to a haunted hayride it was mid autumn . I called the radio on one of my sisters friends cell phones and won the CD because i knew something i don't recall maybe identified the band playing.. I also remember my first time hearing One Headlight in the mid1990s when my uncle came and picked up my cousin up in his old Saab ...i just remember the lyric line "come on try a little...nothing is forever" and i was like 8 or 9 years old and I knew that was naughty hahaha. Music is funny that way. Pseudo Time Travel! they are right nostalgia is a strong intoxicant.
I had an Audi Fox also back in the 80’s driving down 495 from Worcester to the Cape every weekend (girlfriend instigated) with Exile on Mainstreet blasting on the blaupunkt.
The coolest thing youll ever watch beside his concerts is his interviews on Echoes of Laurel Canyon. This is when i found out that he is just as cool as his dad! Also, hes every bit the interviewer as is Joe. Looks him straight in the eyes
A good interview....Jakob seems down to earth and sounds so much like his Dad...that was the only thing....Like it is the elephant in the room...I get he probably wants to establish his own identity, but at the same time, he is the son of arguably one of the greatest song writers of all time, so it would have been interesting to hear him talk about his Dad and his influence. I did laugh when they were talking about Wilson Speakers and Jakob described the speakers as an ATM Machine....lol
Only band I can think of that stayed together and get along is phish.well they took a break for about 3 years then came back stronger then ever.dont think they would go on without all four members
Id buy the Troubadour and turn it into a Mexican music place and make a billion dollars. I'd Have that place jam packed every night since LA is 95% migrant.
Jakob Dylan is a low-key comedian. You can tell hes a funny dude by his reaction to 'bad acting,' you can also tell how he reeeaally feels about things by listening closely. Henry Rollins, lol, you can tell he doesn't respect his musical contribution. Same with Prince, imo, doesn't sound like he was super enthused about his music lol. He reeeaaallly subtly takes the piss out of things. Does sound like the nepotism suggestions REALLY get under his skin. Even bringing up Bob Dylan, his entire demeanor shifted.
I like CD quality in the car and vinyls at home and youtube at home but not spotify. F them. If im paying for it im holding it in my hand. CDs are cheap at used record stores and they are still high quality sounding . if not scratched too badly but they clean them with a CD polishing cleaner machine to remove some scratches to revitalize old CDs sell them for 3 to 5 bucks. I enjoy CDs in the car a lot. I live in it for a while and let it play over and over that's the sign of a good album. I started high school in 2000 2001. I stream TV but i wont pay to stream music. I like having a vinyl collection.
I dig this. We see that music is now in a sort of New Dark Ages, as papa Dylan once said. Music is now in a state of flux where you just do it because you love it. The old paradigm is long gone, and the new one is a tricky wicket. I see great artists who are independent hitting up fans for thousands of dollars from fans to market and promote their stuff. Record companies once held the gateway, but now its all on the artist. The only hope is your song crosses the threshold and finds its way into the cultures. We are left now I suppose with good old-fashioned luck and still, diligent hard work. That being said, we are also left with others holding the keys to being heard, and those others are somehow the gatekeepers. How they get that privilege to curate playlists and promote others is anyone's guess.
That Paul Stanley story is kind of hilarious and messed up all at the same time. I would have figured he’d give the kid the box or something. Goes to show, never meet your heroes.
sooo, let's talk about your dad, he's a genius and did he make a deal with the devil, or is he the devil, or just an affiliate of the great cosmic design? I prefer the latter ✌️💚
