Annie Jacobsen is a Pulitzer Prize finalist, investigative journalist, and bestselling author. Her latest book, “Nuclear War: A Scenario,” is out now. www.anniejacobsen.com
Annie "Nuclear threat is just the tip of the spear." Joe "Have you seen an orangutan fishing with a spear?" Annie "What? No. I just meant....." Joe "Jamie, pull up the spearfishing orangutan for Annie please."
I quit listening at the 1 hour point and just played her audio book. Way more informative than listening to Annie listen to Joe's dead horse talking points or him calling ukrainian attacks in Crimea terrorism. FML.🙄 He's become insufferable.
For those of you interested, Annie's latest book is infectious. It's a big book but I might finish this bad boy over the weekend. Her writing is exactly what she stated: clear, concise, powerful. Btw, feel the need to say I love Joe's podcast. Peace.

Omg her voice is pleasant. Listening to this podcast for the second time now. Never done that before. Next i will get all her books as audiobooks with her as the reader. Tremendous singers voice! Speaking in such a intonation perfectly along classic notes stimulates anyone to pay attention and enjoy your speech greatly.
I've never been so disappointed in a JRE episode. Why even bring this brilliant woman with such important information to share on the show if you're just going to spend 3/4 of the time retelling the same talking points you've talked about dozens of times before? Yikes.
I wish he was more like Shawn Ryan. Just shut up and listen…let the guest speak and ask important questions in between. Joe has to get his stupid view in.
When Annie asked ,"Who is Alan Watts?" I was quite shocked, but also thrilled his name came up. More people need to hear his message, now more than ever.
Listening to alan watts led to psychedelic experiences changing to something completely different. Meaning I listened to him amd a few days later took some and experinced something completely different, I have never been able to go back to the old feeling. I had to stop taking them. I thought i was becoming 'enlightened' but i am now just another crazy dude honestly. Tread carefully with the whole spiritual thing, things arent as they seem, most people who get close to that light end up as the people talking to themself on the street. Alan Watts is a positive message, but the spiritual world is not all enlightenment and peace... I wish I never looked.
@@imuuri I couldnt disagree more. I have been on the path for 30 years and have connected to incredible experiences in other realms. You have to be experienced and knowledgable about ALL angles of spirituality before taking any substance if thats where you want to go. Maybe the mistake was yours?
@@Petrzmolik to cover and protect yourself with the highest of high protective energies for your best and highest good, knowing that there are very dark energies that can spot vulnerable uncovered frequencies. @@User-qv4lg - Perhaps the fact that people rarely talk about nuclear war has trained you into thinking any talk on nuclear war and the reality entailed in it is "fear mongering".
@@daniellove162 As a European that is indirectly attached to NATO I can somewhat assure you that we are still multiple escalation steps away from “nuclear war”. This woman talks about Armageddon, while there are varieties of Tactical nukes etc. that Russia could have used to make real statements within Ukraine (e.g. Capitulate or every 2 days you’ll lose a city) this will not happen due to BRICS and other interests. Go hide under a stone across the Atlantic.
@@daniellove162 Additionally, She didn’t even know what ATACMS are, how the hell is she qualified to even dive into this subjects. In American vocab, It’s like not knowing about AR-15’s but lecturing us on 50.cals. Absolute nonsense.
This woman...EVERY TIME I hear her speak I want to go to sleep. And I'm not saying that in a rude way. She's got a perfect, soothing audiobook voice. She could read a cake recipe and I'd be out sleeping after the first page.
One of my high-school lit teachers did this to everyone. He could probably make a fortune reading ASMR for sleeping these days. Man was a sleep wizard.
She said something about “the previous administration” but I don’t remember them starting any wars. I actually think he went to NK to talk with Kim. We had relations with Russia as well.
@@Satchmojones I never said it was. I’m stating facts!!! He actually tried to settle tensions with North Korea. Never said anything about elephant vs donkey. And I assure you that I’m for from stupid. Typical liberal tho, always name calling!!!!
I think this is intentional. He isn’t getting the ratings he used to on RU-vid and therefore people will comment on the misspelling and to comment allows the RU-vid video to play for more than a few seconds which adds $$ per view!
I don't think that our attention span is decreasing. What we see is a lessening of our ability to endure boredom. When we have fun, or when we are interested in something, we can focus for hours and hours. When we are bored, we immediately look for something more stimulating.
This is actually the most positive spin I've saw someone make about attention span. I do agree that though boredom is becoming less easy to be in, that sometimes doing absolutely nothing is necessary for spiritual revitalization
Is it me, or did Joe spend the majority of the interview talking about other subjects except what Annie was there to speak about. Annie kept trying to get back to the book and the subject and Joe consciously kept steering the conversation in another direction.
Joe "The AI on my refrigerator is so smart keeps my vegetables at the perfect temperature" Annie responds, "Speaking of temperature when a thermonuclear bomb explodes its at 1,000,000 degrees at its peak" Joe comes back quick "Yeah but the veggies will still be protected because the AI will know this and adjust accordingly.
It was SOOOOoo hard to watch. Joe was a complete baboon on this one. For someone that doesn't like getting in his own way and being married to his ideas, he really got in his own way and is married to his ideas on this one.
Why do you guys make these sensless comments? What’s the implication? They are different and way off as people? Thats pretty much the purpose of this podcast. Thank you captain obvious #too big to fit in this text. But hey if it makes you feel prominent 💪
I'm so glad you came back to RU-vid. I was a overnight dispatcher when I started listening to you in like 2016 and during covid or around you made that Spotify transition. So it feels like a return to normality for me lol. I haven't listened to you besides highlights on here since that point . Cheers
The fact that people though reagan was going to be the one to push the button and he was actually the one to reduce nuclear threat, goes to show how people don't know shit.
but why... they are both great at letting others talk, they both hate talking about themselves.. listen to tucker on both pods if you want the host interviewed lol
Mr. Rogan. I love you man. Been watching your show for years. Hopefully someone will see this comment, since you don’t read comments. Dude, why did you not let this woman talk? I want to hear more Annie.
This interview is basically Joe facing his biggest fear, & all of us vicariously along for the ride… Pray for Peace, and Be our best - to ourselves & each other 🙏🏽🔥🤙🏽
We can't vote our way out of this mess because the problems we face aren't political, they're spiritual. There's a war going on, and it's between Good and Evil. It's not that some people are good and some are evil, we're all a mixture of both, but the time is coming when we'll all have a choice as to which side we're on.
I’ve never been simultaneously horrified and soothed. Who knew that a little ASMR was the spoonful of honey that we needed when digesting nuclear Armageddon.
And what is that? To warn people that nuclear war is a real risk so that they call back their war mongering politicians from the brink of armageddon? I don't see the problem.
She sounds like a sick animal in this... Lol smoking after 50 years/now have HBP COPD, how is that attractive!? You cant hear her struggling to breath the whole time?
@@programmerm5907 so what? Does this make Prime Mike Tyson out of you? Does this make prime Jon Jones out of you? Send me your Location right now, lets end this!
just bought the book been using it to help with work but also excited to restart it even though i have not got through much but can finally listen to it properly the weekend is here
I'd say it's a constant threat ever since they were developed and made en mass. The only difference is if the news is talking about it or not... usually it's just scare mongering when they do though
Thought this was a great episode. Great topic, very interesting. I recall an previous episode with Joe and Annie when he may have found her frustrating because she woudln't get off script and talk about her previous book out of order. Good on both of them for having another conversation, learning from the prior one, and this time making for a far more enjoying and informative chat in the time allowed.
I always think it’s so gross when people say “like in my book” or “if you read my book” more than a few times. I understand and appreciate the reason you’re there is to promote your book, but there’s a certain point when it just feels really tacky in my opinion…
Not just that but they bring along an army of astro turfers playen round in the comment section..."Well I'm reading TWO of her books right now! I also sniff my own farts and put bananas in my pooter. Read her book though. Seriously. Read it.
Part of what i like about this episode is that it's not always clear who is interviewing whom. The conversation has a nice back and forth flow to it, with so many topics.
There's not a person walking the earth that can tell you the first word of the first sentence of how the physical brain rises to conscientiousness so trying to define it is a very slippery slope.
Joe really got in his own way on this one. Everytime she talks about what shes there to talk about the scenario in her book, joe starts ranting about the usual, flip phone's, weight loss medicine, the caccoon theory.
With a voice like that OMG this lady. I just want to have longform telephone conversations with her that lead to me flying to finally meet her, we walk on the beach after ordering fwagraughh and Ceveecheay at the fancy restaurant and then she ASMRs me all night long.
