I once went to the zoo in Amsterdam on mushrooms and found myself watching the monkeys for over an hour. I was overwhelmed with a sense of sadness and loneliness. I was truly connecting with these beings on another level until one shat in it's hand and began to eat it. Then I decided to move on and look at the fish
This video is pretty special to me but in a bittersweet way. My mom was the director of animal health at the cincinatti zoo in the 80's but after 20 years of working with the primates she died of cancer. Joe's description of chimps and monkeys reminds me of my mother, who always warned us that even though we love all monkeys, monkeys are incapable of love and could eat our faces if we weren't fair to them. Miss you, mom.
@@denisem1080 Thank-you. Was going to comment similar. I sincerely hope that most people don't think that just because a human does something bad, doesn't mean they aren't capable of love either.
Tbh that story is so bizarre that I cant help but to think it several times, specially when I see a chimp interacting with a kid or living with someone It gives me conniptions
I didn’t find out what a chimpanzee was capable of until my thirties. I’m not sure it’s widespread enough why it’s a terrible idea for people to get too close to these animals. Admire and respect these animals from a safe distance
What chimps and pitbulls do, also dolphins, is good cause there's people who love animals unconditionally, like too much, So these stories and facts kinda put these people in place
I'm not sure if it was the same guy but many years ago I was on a cruise and there was a man on the ship with us who we would see periodically, often times in the hot tub or pool. He was deformed in the most horrible ways, missing fingers, toes, his face had been reconstructed as well as large sections of skin on his arms, legs and torso. He was always accompanied by what I assume was some sort of nurse or aid who helped him with just about everything. Rumor on the ship was the he was the victim of a well-publicized, multiple chimp attack. I think it was the same guy.
Humans in this comment section are incredible ! WHO has destroyed 50% of all species worldwide ? Chimps or men ? Humans are the greatest predator EVER, so much so that we are willing to destroy the entire eco-system for petty pleasures and money.
An adult chimpanzee is equivalent to a 2-3 year old human mentally....just 100x stronger!.... imagine a 3 year old with the strength of hulk throwing a rage tantrum. scary af!
I would say that animals do. Elephants never forget. Blue jays have been known to get revenge on people after significant amounts of time if they had their nest messed with. Dogs, cats, horses and other animals remember if they like someone or not. Could. Have a lot of time pass and they may still feel aggressive or hesitant towards certain people and probably other animals as well.
A tiger named Tatiana was taunted by a couple of kids and escaped her cage. She weaved through a crowd of people to get to the kids and ended up killing one and wounding the other before police shot her. One of the more gruesome examples of animal grudges
@@dionaliu497 there's other accounts of tigers similar stuff too. There was a Siberian tiger in Russia I believe and a hunter shot and wounded it and stole part of it's kill and the tiger found the cabin where he was staying. It trashed it and waited for him to come back and killed the guy.
Because these humans man... they're like us but with much more brain and they're aggressive as fuck too man. They are killing like thousands of their own kind just because of different opinions or what they call religion man... They will fuck you up man...
The scariest thing you can see in your life, and I saw it personally was when I looked at a chimp. He was inside someone's home, I was outside looking at him in the kitchen. He had gone to fetch an orange, as his human companion had asked him. This was actually in a trailer. So, the chimp went and I was outside the window, and he opened the fridge and picked up an orange. Then he picked his nose, sort of looked at the booger, and just like a naughty child, he ate it! What we see is the chimp has a brain of a 4 or 5 years old, but with muscles stronger than any human. And unlike a human, he isn't going to grow up and learn restraint or right and wrong, it's just going to get really bad, and he will have his murderous rage for any reason he wants
man i love joes podcast... his talks, perception, ideological views... list goes on ... this isnt just a regular have a guest on and interview them podcast, its so so much deeper and better in so many ways, hence his success i guess... im happy im not the only one who sees not just his intelligence but his curiosity and wanting to know more, and who is fascinating and loves it to
Tony: *desperately trying to avoid talking about chimp attacks* Joe: "Jamie pull up that picture of the guy that got his face ripped off by chimps, he needs to see this"
Quote from a zookeeper- "If the big cats got loose I'd run to find other keepers and visitors and try to get them to safety. If the chimps got out I'd run straight to my car."
In a zoo in Norway there was this monkey that managed to take a keychain with lots of keys from one of the zoo keepers. So the zoo keeper took a banana and gave it to the monkey as a trade. Instead of giving back all the keys, the moneky took off one of the keys and gave it to the zoo keeper.
Big cats DEFINITELY hold grudges! Remember that tiger some years back that escaped its zoo enclosure, ran past dozens of humans and specifically hunted down the 2 that were taunting it earlier?
Also Siberian Tiger once got his kill stolen by a hunter, and than stalked him, and the next time he went hunting, the tiger broke into his home, destroyed it, and than when the guy came back, he absolutely tore hin apart... Tigers intelligence is extremely underrated... People think that lions are smart because they hunt in groups, but tigers are so smart that they regularly kill humans
@@maxim6088 I heard a similar story about a tiger that was shot by a hunter but he escaped. He recovered and tracked down the hunter and waited at his house to kill him. He definitely held a grudge!
I knew a guy that worked in a Zoo. When he started, he was warned to be wary of the Chimps. He said they were the one animal that scared the hell out of him. The way they looked at him, as if trying to figure him out. Part of his job was to feed them. He was told never to put his hand in the cage. They would give them a cup of milk and leave it just outside the cage. Chimp would take it, drink it and leave it back tru the bars. The first time he fed them, this one Chimp, knowing that he was new, dropped the cup just inside the cage. He was about to reach inside the cage and he realised what was happening. The chimp would have ripped the arm from him. .............. Not to be kept as pets. Post Edit - this story I heard first hand from the guy himself. It was Dublin Zoo in Ireland.
Once I went to a zoo and seen many big powerful animals but when i got to the chimps area they were like in a riot or something and I freaked out so much that I had to left cause the way they were pushing the cage and their face expression made me feel so small and also thought they could make it out the cage at any moment. One of the most scary situations of my whole life. I can't imagine encountering just one of them in the wild...
And yet it's not the chimps who destroyed 50% of all widllife on Earth. Humans talking about Chimps' cruelty, another case of the pot calling the kettle black. 🙄
The pure fact you mentioned "cage" makes me think these Chimps were in a cramped overpopulated environment that instinctively made them feel cornered and trapped, so naturally they couldn't handle it and were stressing and freaking out about it. Plenty of other animals experience this same kinda thing too, especially rats or mice in laboratories for example.
Honestly when I went to sea world and saw the dolphins jumping and everyone cheering for them u could tell they were happy from all the cheering and applause everyone was giving them it almost felt like Madagascar where the lion liked being the center of attention
Most dolphins captured in the wild and placed in man made bodies of water, die within 3 days because of extreme depression. They, like orcas, will beat their heads against the walls, starve themselves, or simply go to the bottom and stay there until they die. What you saw was a show. The reality is horrible. You should watch the movie Blackfish if you're able.
When you’re trapped in a box everyday you are really happy to feel people’s cheering. But is that a HAPPY life? These animals naturally swim 80miles a day and feel free. Think about it
That's because training time and show time are the only times these poor animals get to do anything stimulating. They are CRAVING to do ANYTHING, that doing stupid tricks for stupid humans is rewarding to them. It's a very sad. Lock yourself up in a toilet stall for several days with nothing to do, nothing to see. You'll find VERY quickly that it feels like torture. But unlike you, the animals have to go through that torture every single day of their miserable lives.
@@deucepickle2091 Did you see this clip of Alex Jones pissing off Joe?! He gets so mad! 😂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L5qynOa-mKo.html
An elephant killed a women and during her funeral, the elephant returned and trampled the casket. I'm certain elephants can hold grudges. It's kind of like how a dog would be scared of a man that hits it everyday.
@@neilluhar7432 there's been plenty of jamie face reveals. Type in "Joe have you ever done dmt rogan" then watch the video or skip to like the last 20 seconds
Joe's kind of intense and scary as he's making certain points in his story about the chimps and there aggressiveness. You can see the aggressiveness in Joe's eyes as he talks about it.
@benadryl cabbagepatch Because chimps have strong muscles. But still Francis have more chances of surviving chimp attack compared to average human. But humans are the most dangerous creatures on earth.
@@victorabaderamos6019 yeah the gorilla would win, but still i think an ufc fighter would still give a hard time to the gorilla, I mean, getting a kick in the face must hurt
It quickly became a kitkat cake when you chuck all the broken bits of finger back in. Joe's wrong, chimps are not "mean" chimps are absolutely controlled by their nature whereas we as humans control that nature. People are no different I would bite somebodies fucking fingers and face off if they managed to piss me off that much on an emotional level. BUT because I control my nature to react I would never expect to see it happen. Chimps 100% you know they will they have no choice, there are no liberal hippy Chimps :D They are all animals.
@@SanJose408Alex We do, or at least civilised people do as much as they can. Our nature is pullings legs off of mosquitos or getting revenge with a cheap shot or a low blow in the playground. These are the natures of humanity, and I for one am GLAD that we task ourselves with controlling it!
Anybody interested in chimp behavior needs to look up the Gombe chimp war of 1974-1978. The tribe split up and the larger part started to systematically hunt and kill all the other males until they wiped them out. Then they took the females hostage and took the territory and didn’t have any more conflicts after they wiped them all out.
@@PodreyJenkin138 you are so naive. we are a lot worse than them. go to SEA and see how they slice a chimp brain in half, and eating it alive. all the others in the cage saw that shit, and bow down with their hand begging for their life. we are the most barbaric. if that happens in modern, can you imagine 1000 years ago ?
@@500dollarjapanesetoaster8 his name is Andrew Oberle. Look him up on youtube. He got fucked but he actually looks damn good now for what happened. Got one of the best plastic surgeons in the name
Dolphins definitely have a language. Researchers have noticed that dolphins seem to gossip about one another when the other is off hunting or something. The researchers were able to tell this because they also realized that dolphins in a pod together have names for one another. And when another dolphin was gone, other dolphins would be heard saying that dolphins name while he was gone. So the researchers deduced that those dolphins were talking about the other dolphin in their absence.
It has no remorse, it’s not a dog, not a human, this thing is a weird in between thing and if you do something for someone else, but not for them, they feel rage... Sounds like my ex-wife..
When my son turned 13 and got taller than me, I went through the exact same thing with him. I'm missing fingers and he never listens. He is now 15. I went from looking 12 to looking 57 years old. 3:09 finally someone has articulated motherhood.
With all due respect to Joe , I can't help but think he looks like one every time he puts that headset on ngl lol, with the shape of his bald head and stocky build. Without it he looks human though lol
Joe is great about laying out the facts to help people out. Big and strong wild animals are not designed to be domesticated. Learn from these incidents of violence to just live and let live.
Chimps actually do hold grudges. I learned about this in my Animal Minds class. If a chimp is attacked by a stronger chimp, they often attack the other chimps weaker family members. Thanks 50,000 dollar degree lol
