I love hunter s Thompson. As a teen his wild perspective sparked something in me. Led to many wild years where I took the wilder choices just for the experience.
Yes, thank you (11 min in). As a veteran of Iraq, people are surprised when I say that war is equally mentally and physically exhausting. These jokers on the left/right talking about war and what not, thinking it will be fun, and they'll kick ass, and who have no experience in war don't know what it really is. These are kids growing up with their war experiences coming from video games like Call of Duty or Medal of Honor. They play for a couple hours, then they stop and go take a break, or pause the game to get a snack or use the bathroom. In war, you have to be alert 24 hours a day, even when you are asleep, you wake up, you think, "Why did I wake up? Do I need my rifle?" You may not sleep or eat for days. You have to press on despite injury. I'm done my soap box.
FYI, a few of us have military service, too. BTW, I know how civil wars operate, look at Bosnia of the 90s. Insurgent civil wars are different than the way the US Army or Marines run a war. In Bosnia a man might decide to terrorize a market as a sniper in the morning and be at work in the afternoon, none the wiser. Americans draw the wrong conclusion of the 1861-1865 Civil War; both sides were organized as proper armies. Modern Civil Wars are unclear and messy affairs like in Lebanon, Bosnia, former Yugoslavia, and Northern Ireland. BTW, you're seeing it right now. It's called ANTIFA and they have been involved in beatings, terror, attempted shootings, and attempted bombing in Oregon. You're just not seeing it. BTW, any clown is deadly if they are motivated. You're drawing the wrong conclusion between Iraq & Afghanistan and a modern urban civil war.
@@Easy-Eight FYI, BTW, BTW, you seem to have a chip on your shoulder and trying to make something so you can talk big shit and seem the superior. Well, you got to push in like Mr Know-it-all and try to be the dominant one. So, did it work? Do you feel superior? My whole comment was about war being mentally exhausting. BTW FYI BTW BTW do you feel you properly inflated your ego? There are other comments to do that to bro!
@@somethingsiseeit means he’s not a primary source. Everything he has to say about Hunter is hearsay and Joe knows that and treats him with the skepticism that should merit
He wrote out Thompson's quotes to get into his head and 'feel his writing rhythm'. Apparently did some drugs to get into his mindset prior to the podcast as well...
"The Nixon I remembered was absolutely humorless; I couldn't imagine him laughing at anything except maybe a paraplegic who wanted to vote Democratic but couldn't quite reach the lever on the voting machine." - HST HST was truly the last of the Buffalo. The rarest breed. He will be remembered and he is missed. Imagine his rants on the Trump / Clinton election.
@@hugharrance1309he was a complete human being light and shade. Darkness and good. That’s what made him a genius. The fact that came across on how he wrote, to read the work of someone who was purely nice all the time would be boring as hell
The funny thing about their TDS in this episode is that Trumo exists in the era of pseudo journalism, an era founded by their boy HST, who sanctified journalistic malpractice. HST is famous because he's a liar. Why would anybody want journalists who so frequently and flagrantly lie?
its been a long time since i saw this whole podcast but why does everyone hate this guy again? he just seems like an eccentric, nervous writer. its a difficult world. power to the people.
@@Ooth9999 I totally agree. I don't think very highly of HST anymore. I used to romanticize him in my early 20's... My point is that it seems Rogan has some prejudice against this particular guest.
So because he enjoys the work of this notable individual and knows about his life story that makes him creepy. Right. I guess everyone who ever wrote a Wikipedia article must be a creep then since they all know so much about the person they’re writing about. Ur dumb lol.
Was put off by this guys jitteriness initially but came back to it as I love hst. I do think that the left stand for something wholly different now than in his day though.
If you’re a rue HST fan, I’ve been getting random speeches he made at different colleges on my time,I’ve recently. There’s one where the audience greets him like a fucking rock star.

i think people bash joe to much noways for supposedly not having a spine. I kinda doubt that he is this meta but say joe just runs with the insane ideas of some of his guests? If his guest is convinced he is taking them seriously and that he is on their side, they rant and will spill their guts. That's the true utility of long form conversations like this; There is no hiding, unless you are a sociopath. If you are sitting there in dense conversation for over two hours you are most likely going to slip if you are trying to hide something or you will get to your deepest underpinnings and tendencies. Other than feeding people super spicy wings @seanevans long form conversational interviews are some of the most compromising interviews for the interviewee i have ever seen.
Except for Bernie Sanders, Ro Khanna, AOC, Tulsi Gabbard, and other progressives who aren't beholden to special interests.. You can disagree with their beliefs and policies, but you can't say they're corrupt.
@NPC #1984 Obama was wrong for drone-striking the shit out of the Middle East, and Trump is also wrong for continuing and actually increasing the number drone strikes. Trump is an idiot, and does exactly what the swamp tells him to do.
I feel like it’s very similar today, but as they said, it’s easier to coordinate violence, and the amount of information thrown about in the media is almost definitely used to overwhelm and control us.
Nick Hyde think about the nasa broom thing. If that many people blindly believed that day was the only day a broom could stand without thinking about how stupid that is, imagine how many people blindly believe everything else they read without thinking about it. People are stupid mindless sheep
Aaron Shaw I don’t know that we’re entirely mindless, people can be pretty damn awesome, I just think that the people in power know that in overwhelming us with trends and useless information that they can keep us placid. I mean the very idea of revolution has been completely cheapened and commodified, and look at how trump and other politicians use the media. I mean if he’s good for anything Donald sure has a wrap on how to stir the public, he’ll do something terrible and then immediately post some other obscenity on twitter or make a public statement about nonsense, and then almost immediately his mistakes go away and you see a surge in whatever bullshit he threw out, articles are written, people are outraged, or retweeting his idiocy in shock, and you think he doesn’t know the power he holds? Humans aren’t to blame, our minds are hardwired to sponge information, those at the top just know how to abuse the hell out of that.... and it doesn’t help that literally everything around us is targeted with the intention of making us purchase some product, or fulfil some unnecessary evil in order to benefit someone other than ourselves financially.
Nick Hyde brainwashing is real, not in the way that makes you a sleeper agent that can snap and kill the president, but people’s minds are definitely influenced by the media in ways they don’t realize
9:20 Reminds me of what I saw six weeks ago in Minneapolis. One day there was a peaceful demonstration, and the press had arranged with the cops beforehand to film fenced in behind a four foot high barricade up against a building. The cops were supposed to sweep in from the other side and disperse the crowd. Instead, they tossed a dozen teargas canisters into the press pit, surrounded it so they couldn't get out, and then maced them as they tried to climb over. They were kept in that pit for over a minute, with asphyxiating smoke so thick you couldn't see an inch in front of your face. I had to lead a news crew from a local ABC affiliate to my house and help them rinse their eyes out with baking soda and water.
Get someone on who knew Phil Spector. Just heard a Leonard Cohen quote about Phil holding a gun to his kneck and telling him he loved him to which Loanard replied - I hope you do. Fascinating.
Ruben Salazar’s head wasn’t blown“Off”. And it was determined in a documentary that is was an accident. A tear gas canister was shot through a curtain into a bar through the doorway from the street in by unfortunate chance hit Ruben Salazar in the head. His daughter is my sister-in-law.
9:30 He sounds a little delusional. Atleast if this bit is referring to the Trump admin. There is nothing more politically safe and acceptable then criticizing him. Lol it's NOT doing it that is dangerous to your health or career.
This guy would be running to his car if he hung out with Hunter for even an hour. He seems way too high strung. Of course, going on a show that has the following Rogan has probably would make most people really nervous, plus he needs to lay off the Adderall. It doesn't seem to be helping him much, rather making him a jittery mess.
At 10:21: Guest: "I think there's this idea on the right that we can push towards violence or get very close to it with our rhetoric or with our actions but that it won't spread...." Rogan: "I don't know if that's isolated to the right... I think that...the left and the right in general for a lot of these people is as an identity in a gang they belong to...." This kind of Rogan insight-startling, penetrating, invigorating-makes it easier to forgive his lapses-and should shame the knee-jerk ideology of too many of us-including the guest's.
Nothing wrong with using inspirational words!!! That's why they're called "inspirational"! As long as you don't claim it's your own!!!😉😉😉 And b.t.w don't for a moment compare Nixon to Trump!!! Totally different types!!!
I've only just read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and knowing that it was originally a article for Rolling Stone, how much of the book actually happened and how much was pure fiction? Did the Lucy incident actually happen or was it just part of the story?
Adrenochrome....fooled a lot of ppl w/that...dvd commentary, Terry Gilliam talks about it. Obviously, the story about "cut the head off right there in the parking lot" was meant to scare the guy at the D.A. convention, in the movie a guy in the lobby is telling it to somone on the phone.
I mean, what can the press expect when they disregard their duty of reporting the truth as unbiasedly as possible and start making up lies? People aren't going to care anymore what happens to them.
This discussion was a little too heady for Joe and his audience. Too nuanced, too many details. Skimming “Fear & Loathing” and watching documentaries doesn’t give you a full sense of Thompson.
Steve Swallow yes,he recently just was talking about how Gavin no longer associates with the proud boys. But, i believe you chalk things up like these to him not wanting to be combative and not wanting to start a debate in the middle of his guest making their point
I'm proud to be a American 💯 IAM but this is why i choose to be an independent. I believe both sides got a lot of good views but I'm for those who I see doing and really hearing the people voice the people who are fight like us and just need a hand not hand out and see as we see it for now. How are streets are filled with more homeless how are law's are feeling use and all we keep hearing is the cost . But wat about the cost to spend now to impeach are presadent are the cost we sent to that same country that was plotting to kill are solders and innocent people.
