Brilliantly put point, and is that due to the totally chaotic nature of the driving system ( the 🌪 tornado) I would think that if you had a monkey typing for close to infinite time he might type some Shakespeare, but then I would argue that system is less chaotic to start with than a tornado. For a start you have a typewriter and an already farely sophisticated life form

That’s not at all how anyone proposes that evolution works. It was never a bunch of random parts coming together like the watchmakers argument. Every living thing on this earth has been crafted through millions of trials and errors, from its most simplest possible base form upward, over several billion years. So to use your analogy, ***if a spark plug was able to self replicate, self-transform, self-assemble, and learn from mistakes and successes, then yes, a spark plug could turn into a Lamborghini in 4 billion years ***edit: Okay I'm editing it. This used to say "if you taught a spark plug" but I changed it to "if a spark plug was able to", because atoms and molecules are able to form complex structures by their very nature, and there is no evidence to the contrary.

I agree with "wesleycardinal" here. Stephen Meyer is a creationism pseudoscience huckster, and goes around continuously promoting his religion-based pseudoscience claims which have been debunked thoroughly and repeatedly for decades - but unlike a lot of his critics, I appreciate it when people like Rogan give interviews like this and let them speak, precisely so we can witness the bogus arguments they use right out of their own mouths. Of course, it would be even better if Rogan were to also interview a professional philosopher and/or a professional scientist who is familiar with the kinds of arguments creationist pseudoscience promoters such as Meyer make, and present them with direct clips of Meyer's statements and have them discuss exactly why those statements are so off-base.

As a programmer I must say that if you randomly change any code, there's a 99.99% chance it breaks, not just degrades. There's no way you can improve any code by randomly typing stuff in random places. The remaining 0.01% chance can't improve anything, your code will still run, but it will have errors like typos and miscalculations

I'm old enough to remember when intelligent people were expected to behave this way; and most of them did. No vituperation. No invectives. They ran their arguments past people and saw what they thought of them. We live now with a couple of generations who were taught that anything they said was simply brilliant, that they themselves were brilliant, and that no one had the right to assail either of those brilliances in any way...ever. That "self esteem centric" education has produced at least two generations of dangerously fragile egos and incredibly brittle intellects.

What makes Joe Rogan such an interesting interviewer? I think it’s two things: CURIOSITY and HUMILITY. He asks the interesting questions that are floating around in his viewers’ heads and then he lets the other person speak so that we can hear that other side. it’s very mentally stimulating. I always come away having felt like I learned something new. Maybe that’s a THIRD reason for Rogan’s success.

Every time people say that "God did it" but then our understanding increases and we see that it wasn't a deity who did it. I'm sure that you now know why the Sun moves across the sky and it isn't because of Ra and his chariot. So no. If you carry on sinning, then you do not love God but are selfish like the devil so you will be joined to your father in hell or repent of your sins and believe in Jesus as God so Jesus adopts you as His child and you will join Him in Heaven forever.

How does the fact that countless experimental and observational studies validate and expand upon our knowledge of how evolution works not change your view of how our world works? Because...god? who the fuck do you think is censoring Meyer? He is head zealot at a well funded right wing, Christian fundamentalist pressure group. The generate propaganda 24/7 via websites, blogs, radio shows, Jesus TV, broadcasts from mega churches, ludicrous videos polluting RU-vid etc. everything in fact, except peer reviewed publications in the professional literature of the sciences they abuse. Meyer managed to get, via a crooked crony, an essay into the Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington. As the review process had been cheated by Sternberg to sneak it in behind the backs of the board of editors, the "paper" was instantly dropped. Why are creationists so fundamentally and relentlessly dishonest?

This is the problem is that some of the concepts of Darwinian natural selection are counterintuitive and conveying them in layman's terms to people that do not understand the complexities of the arguments make it easy to bamboozle people. It's especially interesting to listen to different perspectives that may not necessarily align with views Mr. Rogan himself espouses, because he DOES give them time to explain their view and is also not afraid to counter with his own preconceived notions. Attachment styles are about more than romance. They’re wired into the core of our nervous systems, and they’re a foundational element of who we are. They show up every time we get stressed - in any relationship. Unresolved wounding is what causes us to be so insecure. If you want to feel security, connection, and confidence in every aspect of your life, then you MUST learn how to solve the conflict/repair cycle because that’s the foundation of it all. The journey doesn’t end by learning your attachment style. It’s just the beginning.

This is a great example of how sounding persuasive is more important than being persuasive when convincing people. For example, he mentions that changing a random bit of code, you would expect degradation long before you would expect anything new and useful to arise. But this is not a perfect analogy to what we see in nature, there needs to be one more step: any random change that degrades the code is discarded, much like detrimental mutations that arise in nature. They don't survive, and only beneficial mutations remain. There isn't just one code, there's one version of code in every individual and ones that were randomly degraded will disappear.

I have always been super into science. As a high school and college kid, I had a basic knowledge of science and thought the stuff they said in church was silly and murky, so I went agnostic. Then, as I got older and deep dived into the nature of reality, I really saw the power and beauty of reality, and then god made much more sense as an explanation. Either their are gagillions of universes most of which dont work and we inhabit one that does or something made this. So reality works the way it works because it has to work that way, so whether by chance or by design the dominoes all fall just perfectly from the very tiniest scales all the way to the incomprhensibly large scales. Anyway. I am grateful to exist. I think it is appropriate to tell the chef they made good food, and I hope I get the opportunity to tell god that this existence thing is pretty neat.

My very amateur thought about his statement towards the end (protiens and such) is it does not start early enough on the information-flow-chain of the body as seems to be getting uncovered now. What about a healthy and rich gut microbiome? There are tons of chemical signalings that are reacting to various foods being digested. Igniting a very different scale of survival -of-the-fittest that scales into the body various signals (some very directly tied to gene signaling). Fungal and microbiome having a directional and multiplyer effect? Again, RU-vid video watcher guy having a thought... Tis all.

What Meyer is missing the boat on is it's not about if a mutation created complexity, it's if it was more advantageous at the time. The mutation didn't know it was more complex - it was the fact the primitive eye which could distinguish light, mutated and now could distinguish movement as well....was selected because of it's advantage.

I listened to the whole thing as I was very interested in seeing how this would go given the guest's known convictions. I write this comment after having read a bunch in the hopes that someone on the Rogan team captures significant themes from these comments/responses and Rogan thoughtfully considers them. I realize that I am assuming the theme of "Rogan seemed different and navigated this interview in a way that came of to me, and many others it appears, as having a difficult-to-pin-down negative edge to it" is significant. - I agree that Rogan seemed off and coming from an unusual place in this conversation. - I am not sure I heard Rogan say anything like, "I don't necessarily agree with you, although that is a great point, and a worthy argument" when many of the points seemed to merit that type of acknowledgement regardless of your beliefs or bias or possible animosity. -There seemed to be a lack of enthusiasm to learn and reflect in the moment that Rogan is known for (in my opinion) -It seemed as if Rogan came in expecting to confront someone who was going to proselytize and he didn't get that and so the points he made came of as pre-meditated and scripted and ill-timed. -Meyers explanation of his "Divine interventions and guidance" came off as flat and mundane and were seemingly downplayed by Rogan as "growing up and maturing and simply getting better" to put it my way (although they were in question form). -Recognizing selfishness and moving away from it to selflessness is a big freaking deal and not everyone comes from destitution or horrific (or even mild) trauma and has a redemption story that is universally compelling. That is not "anyone's fault" per se just as being born a crack addict or an alcoholic is not a child's fault (or ever their fault). And that does not diminish the relative impact of one's character defects on their life and the struggle to overcome, and what is necessary for some to overcome them. Are there first world problems - sure. That said, selfishness, regret, shame, fear, guilt and all the rest have trashed many lives that were at one time revered and desired. -Meyer showed openness and tact when Joe went into psychedelics and fertility rituals as the basis for Christianity, and his own experiences with the "other" via psychedelics. Talk about a major curve ball if you are hearing this for the first time. It seemed like an in-your-face challenge born of a kind of snooty defiance. Like, "go ahead, deny the authenticity of my experience". Meyer was open and respectful used a Biblical reference to leave room for this as an avenue to God. -I would have expected the same level of openness and acknowledgment and respect for Meyer's religious experiences and their impact on his life. It is all relative. -Those are just some examples and others have noted more. -It just felt different, especially with Meyers' approach. -It felt like there was a strange and dismissive and antagonistic type of undertone that resulted in leaving a lot on the table. Maybe the topics themselves were not compelling more broadly and Joe was trying to spice it up...and I feel like that is reaching pretty far on my part. -Maybe Meyer pissed Joe off in the run-up...???

Well put, I perceived all of the same things. The flow of the conversation at times was bumpy, especially when Joe threw in the psychedelic talk. Stephen handled the whole negative undertone of the interview with humility. I suspect he has encountered a lot of it in the past. @@planes3333 agreed. As a born again Christian at age 40, I fought all of the same points Joe is for the past 20 years of my life. I believe there are negative forces hindering us from accepting God. We don’t want to be accountable for all of our sin. We don’t want to be the ones not in control. Once we accept that we are created by Him, we can see clearly the intricacies of life. Joke's on him. In one of his earlier appearences on the JRE Jordan Peterson basically made a case for "god" having evolved into our thought process. Religion has been part of the formative period of the human mind from the very start, so we have a certain inbuilt desire to abstract societal and psychological problems by personifying a higher power and arguing with it. And the ultimate problem for a self-conscious creature is the inevitable death of the ego. Rationally we know we cannot escape that, so we try to rationalize the belief into the supernatural, to build a believable escape-route for our panicking brain.

These type of discussions are exactly what brought me back to our creator, God. I was Christian in my childhood, and young adult. But I always had questions about God and the Bible that were not answered to my satisfaction. So I became an agnostic for many years. However, even as an agnostic, I never quit searching, seeking answers or God. In my mind and soul, I knew there was something and I would not let go of this notion. I began reading books, philosophy, history of the Bible, listening to scholars who were atheist and believers, listening to podcasts. It was never ending. Then one day it hit me like a freight train. It all culminated into one moment of knowing, realization that God was real and with me at that very moment in time. I broke down emotionally, uncontrollably, couldn’t speak, only cry. The intense emotion was combination of the years of searching and the Holy Spirit filling me completely, to the point where I was overwhelmed. I can’t explain the feeling with words. But ever since that morning, I have changed. I am no longer the man I was. Now, I boldly proclaim God is my King, Jesus Christ is the pipeline, the messenger, the son of God. My job is to plant Gods seed. It’s your job to water it, or not. Sometimes the seed doesn’t get watered for decades or ever, but occasionally it’s immediately. But I have fulfilled my purpose by sharing and planting. The Kingdom of God is within each of us, not in a building or temple. The temple is us. God is in all things we see and don’t see. Every thing you see, can touch and feel is temporary and will pass, but the things you cannot see exist too, but are eternal.

*I knew there was something* You believed in God still even if your faith was small. In my case the faith was just gone and still is especially since i don't want faith yet Christianity is not belief with evidence but rather insists on having faith (faith as defined in Romans believing in what is hoped for the evidence of things not seen). *The intense emotion was combination of the years of searching and the Holy Spirit filling me completely* Emotional experience however feelings are not determines what is truth. When i was a believer i felt what i thought was the holy sprit too in reality those where feelings generated inside of the mind there was no way to prove it was actually from God or supernatural in anyway and the fact is religious experiences are common among all different religions (not just Jesus). What makes your experience more valid then a Muslim who feels Allah or George Harrison who literally felt and talked to Krishna and credited him with saving his life in a plane crash? *Now, I boldly proclaim God is my King, Jesus Christ is the pipeline, the messenger, the son of God* The thing is whether or not those claims are provable? is the bible correct what evidence supports it in my experience none reality contradicts the bible and the bible is evidently false with false history, predictions, morality, science, medicine etc.
@truthmarshal6627
@truthmarshal6627 9 месяцев назад
@@trolljones4386 you sound a whole lot like myself once. Each persons journey is different. Some want to find God, some don’t. Some will, some won’t. I have many questions that I can’t answer, nor will I get answered before I die. Frankly, I wouldn’t be satisfied if I knew all the answers really. I think people get too caught up or bogged down specifics. Yes there are many religions. Deep down I believe humans know we have a creator, it’s in their soul. The first question is do you believe in God, a creator? Or do you believe humans, the earth, the solar system, the universe simply always was or just appeared from nothing? Absolute perfection is required to have life on earth. I personally began reading about the universe and science. Listen to scientist Gregg Braden if you get a chance. And Dr Wayne Dyer. It helped me put it all together, reluctantly. We have to remember that the Christian Bible was written by imperfect broken people, and it is apparent in the writings. Many books were excluded and many have never been found. The lost book of Thomas (Gospel of Thomas) was only discovered in 1945. The Christian Bible is the most sought after book in the history of the world, most talked about, most purchased, and most read. Day by day scholars and archaeologists are finding more historical evidence supporting facts, events and characters mentioned in the Bible. King David one of them. Anyway, we could talk bout this for the next year. But in the end it’s a personal choice. When people say I want to see evidence, I say open your eyes. The evidence is in changed lives, in everything you see. Life on earth. In me and my life. I am no longer the man I was, and anyone that knows me would tell you exactly that.
