i was there too!! the guy or person shooting it is 4 rows behind me and my ex stepson. did your dad give the reason why this even happened? George Lynch was slated to be on the peavey stage at this time and His airplane was late landing so joe had andy come up and jam till he got there. a tough follow and the place emptied pretty quick as his vibe was really dark he was pissed off all could tell, so you have this GREATNESS positive greatness, then a black cloud to follow....and i was there to see lynch! great memory
Andy T. has something that just a few great artitsts have...he created his OWN way of playing, he has a unique phrasing and groove to play. Unmistakeable sytle. He also has an amazing sense of melody, very important in a musician.
I only just came across Andy Timmons. Can't believe how good he is. Wish there were more live concert vids of him. Clearly he hasn't got the recognition he deserves. Could be as he's mostly guitar only and doesn't sing much - doesn't need to with the way he plays. Brilliant!
... not a duel... satch is a teacher, a great musician and a good human being... watch and notice places where he stands back and watches Timmons and just enjoys it... that's greatness right there... btw, if you ask for tablature from A.T. he will sign and send them to you... he is such a humble person, with amazing, amazing talent.
@@fly8837 Clearly its you who are the punk. I have watched Satch and Andy both for a very long time. While this performance is very close to the best that Andy can do, its not even in the ballpark of what Satch can do. He is playing within the song, restrained, and having fun and joy playing with his great friend and former student, not competing or trying to show off or win. There are certain things they both can do which they are each better at. For instance, Satch is one of the best legato players in the world. Andy is a bit faster of a shredder. Its a matter of opinion who has better feel here. I admire them both but I would admit Andy's playing here is more flashy and dynamic and is amazing. But Andy is not better overall or more accomplished, hes's just got his own style that's wonderful. I wouldn't expect any of this to register with you, as you are clearly an idiot, judging by your grammar, run on sentences, inaccurate grammatical tenses, and obvious illiteracy. PUNK.
No competition at all in this video. 2 friends rockin a crowd and loving every moment of it. Andy Timmons is in another league though in my opinion. Wow. Glad this was caught on video!
people always pick one of their fav, they'll compare who is better than the other. stop that mentality guys. this is not even a competition. this is two awesome guitarist having great conversation with their guitar, and most importantly the audience is having a blast...
I think andy and joe are both real musicians and way beyond the teenage mentality of a guitar "duel." this is just an epic jam. both are incredible players and two of my favorites.
my two favorite guitar players ever. i wish theyd go on tour together so i could go see them both at the same time. i only have seen 1 satriani concert and he blew my mind at it.
I feel like Joe's improvisation is always the same. I mean, he's a great musician, with great great songs, but on improvisations it seems like he always do the same thing, the same pentatonic, the same bends, etc. Anyway, great video with two masters of guitar.
Andy committing an absolute massacre. All Satch can do is sit there and trill notes and shred the same finger exercise while Andy dances fancy ass circles around him, haha.
Holy shit, man. This is like the best guitar vid ever! Andy's a friend of mine. Knew him very well. I was a fan when he was just a local Dallas guitar god, after Danger Danger was no more. Seeing an old friend standing his ground against Satriani like this just really fucking rules!!!!! Thx for the share.
I think when a guitar player steps out on stage with Joe,he knows he has to step up,and play his absolute best to keep up. Joe just likes to play, and teach,he has a good time on stage.Awesome player.
I think this was the Dallas Guitar festival in 2002 or 2003. I was lucky enough to meet Joe in passing. Eric Johnson and George Lynch also played a few songs each. Most amazing show I've ever been to, since there was essentially no bad seat in the house. I was up against the stage when Lynch played-- still have the pick he tossed me when he was done with Mr.Scary.
I saw Andy cover Joe's Surfing w/Alien around 1989 at Tommy's in Deep Elum. Now playing with the master. Looking forward to seeing him at the Granada in Dallas in a couple of weeks!
Andy's note selection and technical versatility is amazing....I love Joe....I thank him for those modal arpeggios I learned and the inspiration to play guitar.
@Mezik88 So true, man. I love listening to these things where they play co-operatively, 'cos it weaves together two completely different sounds into something beautiful, whether you want it to or not.
I wonder where the last place you played was... with a response like that, I guess all we have to do is wait for your amazing video response to realize exactly how great your delusions of grandeur have become! My guess is you'll never wander outside the pentatonic scale, and your video will be fodder for us all. I can't wait!
