As a Satriani fan who has followed him extensively....I cannot tell you how much I enjoy covers of his music from various youtubers. Your version of Rubina is insanely brilliant. At the 5 min. mark...you just blew the song to another level by going off like you did. A phenom ending to a masterful version. Looking forward to listening to more.
Very nice take on a hard to cover tune from Satch. The tempo really makes it hard to hide, eh? If someone had never heard the original they'd be blown away by that Ryan. Your's is a brilliant take on it, nicely phrased when you veer away from the written lines. Chapeau young man. Nicely done. My only (and only very slight) criticism would be to work a little on the slow vibrato on the held long notes. Ease into it and relax a bit. Like I said, a very minor bit of advice as it's a brilliant version.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! I agree with you about my vibrato, I think it's gotten a little better since I recorded this video, but it's still something I need to work on. Really glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks again!
One of my absolute favorites, played with great touch and musicality! I also like how you respond to fans and comments. You probably picked that up from Satch too!
I am about half way done learning it. Not at that part yet but how do the part that starts at 4.16. Is that a chord you're doing on that part? What frets and strings are you holding down and is there a trick to strumming that part? I am having trouble seeing exactly what you're doing for that part of the song. I believe I just need the starting chord or notes. Looks like you're sliding in the same position after that.
+Joe Waldrop I'm playing the 12th fret on the G string and the 15th fret on the E string and using my first finger to deaden the B string so that it doesn't make any noise. Then I'm just sliding up in the same position
+Ryan Smith Thanks. The hardest part is going to be the strumming on that part. Some of the parts are harder to see what you're doing then others but I do not need it note for note and can add some of my own stuff in it. I like a lot of the fill notes you put in.
man, this was just beautiful improvisation!! (or maybe it was written?). It got really intense after a while, which was great to listen too! I liked it, and that means it's auto shared to my twitter channel called Simon Flare ;)

+евгений облецов Thanks :) The first part is just a clean patch with reverb and delay. The overdrive part is the "metal" overdrive setting on the boss GT-5 with the compressor turned on and with delay and reverb.
Thanks man!! Glad you enjoyed it! The JS1200 is amazing. It was my main guitar for years, until the 2410 came out. Actually if Ibanez hadn't brought out the 2410, my main guitar would still be the 1200
Ryan Smith Well , i'm 37 now and i can play , i have a good knowledge of the fretboard , of chords, i am not a technical monster but i can do good things, my question is do you always follow the chords to build your melodies, do you constantly visualize the triads , what is your routine? For how many years have you been playing and how old are you now cause you look young for your great level! Thanks...
I'm 25 and I've been playing for about 13 years now. I don't follow chords when building melodies. I use scales to create them. I look to see what key a song is in and then play around with the different scales to see what fits.
I have listened to this song from other's doing cover's and you are the best of all of them. I even like your version better than Joe's and he wrote this song.!!!!😊👌👈💓👈♥️ Hope your doing good Ryan Take care.!!!!!!
