I grew up on Satriani and Vai. They are the reason I got into guitar, and the reason I became obsessed at 16 years old (37 now). This song still sound modern, it's incredible.
It's the beauty of the composition. And most of Satriani's songs are different, because he takes time to craft them each differently. He's a composer, not a mindless shredder.
Joe has created some of the greatest guitar melodies EVER!! Can he Shred?? Oh Yeah, but he does so only when appropriate for the song. Incredible composer and musician and appears to be an all-around good human being to boot.
This was what was projected during the gig - not video effects added later. I was lucky enough to be there… Ah now I’m well into the clip I see what you mean…
That intro sounds like the Doors song "The end" going from harmonic minor Indian sound to Locrian then to what sounds like a Russian military chorus truly shows his creative genius. Mere mortals could not breath the air this guy does lol
When Time Machine first came out in 93, I was floored. How can one take Flying In a Blue Dream one step further? I was pleasantly surprised Joe resurrected such an amazing piece of music in recent tours. Shitty video editing aside, the quasi sitar prelude was the perfect intro and the sustained note towards the end was incredible. You can tell Joe knew he had a magical one that night. Still perhaps it is Joe's most powerful moment.
I had just started outrigger canoe racing. Sitting in seat 1 I was the stroker and set the pace for the rest of the (6 man) boat, Flying in a blue dream was my mantra... 4.4 timing, perfect!
I don't care about the tabs I don't care about video quality I don't care about stage performance I love the feeling in the tone of the guitar, this.. refreshing my soul... I want to scream with all the sentences , everything hidden in the sound, he is there and instead of me exclaims..
The intro sure seems like an homage to the late, great Frank Zappa. Joe is a master of pulling amazing sounds from his guitars...he makes them do more than they were designed to do. Like magic.
Yeah I agree. I've seen him do a Zappa cover live before as well. I think Satch is a big guitar nerd so he's probably into Holdsworth, Steve Hillage, people like that and those more out there guitarists
Hes at the Divinity Level. From the musician stand point, he's truly above the rest. More like an Alien than a Human being. such mastery of the instrument it just boggles my mind.
The man is insanely talented and the music - to my mind - is immensely emotive and though-provoking, a very rare combination I must insist. An absolute JS favourite song, great music!
The album Time Machine is an amazing piece of creativity. Further than what was done before and after actually. I bought it right away in 93 and I was totally ecstatic while listening it. both the live and the studio parts are exceptional, the sound is coming from somewhere else, the harmonization is devil, well, just the perfect shit to have in your CD collection.
Other than the video editing, my opinion Joe's best live performance! He was definetley feeling something on this song, just smiling like crazy n doing what he does best, rock on you bad ass🤘
É incrível essa música,eu escutava todos os sábados um programa de rock na rádio e essa música era a abertura do programa que já começava bem demais, bons tempos 🤘
+jegelskerdigab Actually you didn't "correct" me. The proper and humble thing for you to do would have been to say what it actually is and not just point out that my statement was incorrect. Since you are now showing your true nature, shut up and practice what you preach.
I know this video is 11 years old, but I wish they'd repost without the trashy video editing. I can see what they were aiming for, but honestly I'd rather be able to see the musicians at work. These guys didn't need layers of video filters to look good. The music glows enough.
The editor/producer of this DVD should be charged with human rights abuses. The video is horrific. Great performance though, I'm so glad there is footage of this being played live.
The video editing is unfortunate (the guy is just parading special effects and such, a bit distracting). BUT! The performance and the song are both Godly! To the video publisher, justice be done. He got the sound all right. Joe is a legend, this song is one of his highest points.
