Joe Thomas former Cleveland Browns offensive lineman retired from the NFL because he was plagued with serious football injuries. His desire to stay in shape and launch the next phase of this career drove him into the swimming pool. He started swimming laps on a regular basis where this low impact sport with high intensity workouts served him well. He is now in top shape for this TV career on the NFL Network. He enjoys swimming so much that he became a U.S. Masters Swimming member. Joe is proof that swimming can really change everything for the better. You don’t have to be a pro to try out swimming laps, you just have to wanna get wet.
No more sitting on the sidelines! Joe Thomas certainly didn't. So, while you celebrate the NFL season and watching all those games, think about your next move. Joe's was into the pool and behind the mic on the NFL Network and ThomaHawk. What will your next move be...?

I’m surprised at how many people don’t grasp how Joe can look so good. Offensive linemen may appear fat, but they’re not lazy. They have quickness, tons of strength, and raw power! So once they no longer have to continuously lift for strength or eat a lot of calories, they can finally work on losing fat. Underneath all that fat was a really strong athlete and it shows!

@@JD-pp3ml I've had several former teammates both in football and track and field make this transition after no longer competing. I think people who think he "suddenly" developed muscles don't get it. This is someone who has been in the weightroom constantly since he was a kid. However, due to the demands of the position he played getting to a low body fat percentage was never the goal. Since he retired he has the option to get lean, showing the muscle built up over an entire high school, college and professional career.

I don't know why every single professional athlete doesn't include swimming in the training regimen. It's a tremendous cardio workout. It's great for strength training, especially after weight lifting, and it helps immensely with flexibility. When I quit playing baseball I discovered triathlons. Which forced me to learn to be a better swimmer. (Which helped immensely with my surfing also.) At 58-years-old, I can no longer run, but I can swim and bike. I can stay in shape and not have problems with injuries or stiffness. Swimming is simply the best exercise.

Great player, not a Browns fan but I watched them play just b/c of him (did the same with their teams in the 80s that had Ozzie Newsome, etc.)

also helps to realize this dude was a professional athlete for 10 years, where he was literally paid millions to be in peak performance and have the ability to improve his body as needed. he was always shredded underneath the fat, it was just a matter of changing his workout routine, which was probably not a big challenge for him. I could be wrong though, just speculating.

It had little to do with changing his workout routine. Sure that plays a role, but it is almost entirely credited to a change in his diet.

@@krb0123 totally. The man literally said he would keep boxes of girl scout cookies on his nightstand so that he could stay 300+ lbs during camp.
