Only if you get the guaranteed money. He is not a great hitter and the majority of first round MLB 1st round picks are anonymous when you look back at drafts the last 10 years. I would make it less than 50% he make a lot more than his original contract, and may make MLB rosters for fielding and running not hitting. If he could play some and hit during for a month in the summer it would be a lot easier to choose football, if he is not a starter after 4 years he can go to baseball with some experience.

There is a strong possibility that he could never become the kind of player the As are hoping he does and that he wouldn't ultimately make as much money as he could if he became a good football player. What? Joel was stating facts, IF Kyler wanted money upfront and soon, the NFL would be the better option because of the contracts and how things are distributed in the 1st round. @michaelsklar5215

@Panda Knox that is a well thought-out post. 5'8 is the only factor that makes this somewhat of a decision. Baseball you play in the minors where you make nothing (and may not even get to the show), then 3 years at minimum salary. Then 4 years of arbitration...Kyler would wait 10 years until his next big payday with baseball and that's if everything goes well.

No offense to Joel klatt but I don't think this is an apples-to-apples comparison. Opportunity cost should definitely be taking in consideration in regards to long-term health and length of a career. yes it makes more sense in the short-term to go to the NFL but if the Major league baseball not only do stand a chance to make more money but not have to deal with long-term injuries. Strictly comparing monetary value to both I feel doesn't do this debate Justice what's your nothing but the best and hope he makes the right choice for himself

Run after money, and money will run from you. Kyler should follow his heart and be the best at whichever sport he chooses, not just go for baseball because of potentially more money and a longer career, assuming he actually makes it to the majors and ends up being good. I think his heart is with football, the fame and glory he will get being an NFL QB is unrivaled by any other sport. If he beats Bama on Saturday he will be the most famous man in America. He'll be on the cover of every sports magazine and be talked about on every sports show and website, and he will not want to let that feeling of fame and success go. Follow your passion, be the best at whatever you choose, money will follow.

He should play football because once he gets drafted in the first round he would go straight to the NFl and for everyone saying the money isnt good for rookies the first 4 years of there rookie contract is full there and if he goes to baseball he has to go through the minor leagues that doesnt pay well he wouldnt make good money until his 6th or 7th year in baseball by his 6th or 7th year in football he would be already done with his rookie deal and making 20 mill a year like matthew stafford and derrick car and guys like that . Also with injury quarterbacks dont get injured that often compared to lineman or runningbacks they have all those flags ( roughing the passer ) when ever someone gets close to a qb so he would be fine

People sleep on Doug Flutie and how great he was at a small size. However they gave him heck about his size but when he played he was great. Greatest CFL player of all time and had a good nfl career. He proved his play was good in the NFL. Took the Bills to a deep playoff run and would’ve took the Bills to the Super Bowl before the coach benched him for Johnson. Who was 6’5. Guess what happen, they lost, Johnson was a bust and flutie’s coach says it was the owners choice and it was wrong. They would’ve been in the Super Bowl. That coach is named Wade Philips. Doug flutie was a former Heisman winner himself. Just a little story to educate the ones who don’t know!

Yawn @ the height stuff. Physical characteristics should come into considering with QBs once, maaaaybe twice in the process. 1) At the beginning of the process: Does he meet the floor for being able to play 2) At the end of the process: If ALL ELSE is equal, who is the bigger/better body type - but if one guy is a better QB, you pick the better QB, not the body. At the end of the day, you're drafting a quarterback - not a body. As far as what Murray should do... whatever he damn well wants!

Nobody has mentioned that if he's bad in the NFL, he can still play baseball.

Skip - In the long term - if/after Kyler plays in the NFL, he can take over his father's business training quarterbacks making $400 - $500 and up an hour. He will have guys tripping over themselves to train with him. Even if he only lasts 3-5 years in the NFL, his accomplishments will garnish him a hefty paycheck in speaking gigs, training quarterbacks... Here in Texas, every kid playing at all levels of football wants to be Kyler Murray.

Thank God people, including Kyler's representation, are finally showing signs of understanding the economics of the MLB versus the NFL instead of just 'OMG LOOK AT WHAT BRYCE HARPER'S GONNA GET.' It is very clear that if he's an easy first round QB, the NFL is the correct financial choice.

If Kyler gets to the majors quickly and balls out, His next MLB contract will dwarf what he would make in the NFL.

doesn't even need to ball out. A decent player can get 15 million per year. A Star will see 25+

If he can become an above average MLB player then yes he should go to the majors, but if he just becomes a guy who fills in off the bench when the everyday players rest for a game or if he doesn't even make it to the majors he shouldn't. This dude honestly looks like he could be the next Mookie Betts so I'm torn lol.
