Your arms are wrong what you mentioned the single slide are is for front of car
@MikesManCave
@MikesManCave 2 года назад
Unfortunately the manufacturer of the hoist disagrees with you. Manufacturer and seller, Joel’s Garage say the three sectional arms go to front of car.

I build hoist for a livin.... Joels have no idea!!! just like your instructions... Useless
@MikesManCave
@MikesManCave 2 года назад
@@aacc8990 Instructions are definitely useless. No mention of arms in instructions either, but if you contact Joel's Garage they will tell you three sectional arms to the front of car. In saying that you might be correct in the assumption that they do not know anything. and are simply selling a car hoist. I have pinned your comment to the top for anyone that is interested. I will be doing an updated video on these hoists in the next few months to help out any potential buyers.

Thanks for the video mate , has saved me a bunch of time. Yes the instructions are rubbish. Poor customer service too

Thanks, agree with the Poor instructions they are horrible and need to be updated. The hoist is working great so far with no issues, so that's a positive I guess. 👍

You're not a whinger Mike...crappy instructions that are compiled by people who have poor language skills have been a frustrating problem to me for a long time. I have installed my cross-arm incorrectly too, even though I was very careful to read the instructions.... so luckily I saw your video before I started to install the other components. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comment and feed back, much appreciated. Hope your hoist is working great.

Short arms go to the heavy end of the car which is generally the front or the load will be unbalanced.

That simple explanation actually makes sense to me. I will definitely have a look at that now.

Thankyou mate😊 you did help me alot with this post becouse i was having the same issues with the instructions,after going backwards and forward scratching my head i got it done with your help .the instruction booklet suxs.😊

Thanks for the feed back, yes the instructions do need work, if you need any other assistance let me know as I have the hoist working perfectly now. But I think they don't care as they want contractors to put the lifts up, Where I live it's hard to get anything I even had to bribe a truck driver to get the hoists delivered to my place.

still not sure which way the hydraulic guide must piont .In the beginning you said you recall seeing it must be fitted towards the pump .That is the way i then fitted my one ,but later on in your video you said your one is wrong and need to be swapped over .Can you please clarrify Thanks
@MikesManCave
@MikesManCave Год назад
I clearly explain it throughout the video and show you in the video., I can't make it any more clear in writing than actually showing you where they go. It starts at 2.55 where I show you where the pump is mounted and where the brackets face, I show you where the hydraulic lines run and explain in great detail that the bar is the wrong way around and needs to be swapped around from the position it is in.

Hey Mike, I installed same hoist in my shed yesterday, luckily I watch the shed sessions video you are talking about and got it right ✅️. Your absolutely right about instructions. Border line useless 😒. I still got to run hydraulic lines and release cable. Did you work out what the silver spacers are for? Cheers 🍻
@MikesManCave
@MikesManCave Год назад
Haha. No, I use the hoist several times a week and have not used them yet. Lucky you got it right the first time, it’s a definite pain to change it over again.

@MikesManCave I've commented multiple times on there Facebook page about sub standard installation instructions only to have them deleted. They pmed me with a bullshit story about looking into changing them, I said you've been saying that for years 😆. I won't be recommending them to my mates, hoist seems OK though 👌
@imanenigma3348
@imanenigma3348 2 года назад
Geez Mike, Your main problem is your hoist's position. It is outside of the warning sticker on your shed's upright. If you had moved the hoist a metre forward, you wouldn't have any problems!🙂 Seriously though, you are absolutely right. The cost of having clear and accurate instructions for each model, considering your outlay , is not too much to ask. Especially considering the type of equipment and the risk of injury that may result from incorrect installation or operation, due to poor instructions. Disclaimer or not, someone gets crippled or killed and a good lawyer may have a field day with the things you have pointed out. e.g What a reasonable person ......etc Furthermore, I hope to purchase a four post hoist from Joel's in the future and issues such as you have pointed out, potentially damage the reputation of what may be a well made, well priced product sold by someone having a go. Now that would be a shame.
@MikesManCave

I have eventually got both hoists assembled and working, to do so I had to seek advice from a hydraulics business, as well as watch a LOT of videos etc to figure out the things not mentioned in the instructions. I also had to purchase some additional items to make it work. I have been extremely busy, but I will be making a video on each hoist and all the pitfalls and extra expenses involved to get it up and running. None of these things will be a problem if you pay someone else to do this for you, and knowing what I know now building a second one would be a lot faster and easier. The product seems pretty good so far, but there are a few things to consider and these things will be covered in my future videos. I have also purchased another four products from Joel's Garage that will be covered in future videos. So keep an eye on this channel if you are considering a hoist at any time in the future.

Cannot blame you for being frustrated and annoyed Mike pretty poor effort with the instructions and that they haven't fixed it when they know they are an issue. Also I know you know but take care up on the ladder have had a few close calls myself and its very easy to get complacent even more so doing stuff around the house. I'm sure you video will help someone in the future with their hoist 👍👍

Well we swapped everything over yesterday afternoon after my son came home from school. no one died, so that's a great start. Should be finishing the two post hoist off this afternoon. Knowing what I know now it could be build in 4-6 hours by two people with the right tools. Lots of time was wasted trying to figure out how things go together by trail and error.

Agree with what you are saying, however, if you were stuck, couldn't you converse with Joel's for some further instruction. Surely there should be some customer service available. Love your shed by the way. Yours looks higher than mine, same construction though.
@MikesManCave
@MikesManCave Год назад
Yes and No, Just provide some useful instructions, not a difficult thing to do, even film and upload an instructional video. But I believe that they don't because that will keep their installers in business.

I do have this up and running now and I do keep a very close eye on everything every single time I use it. I will be doing a video on the lifts in the next few weeks outlying all the issues and all the good points. Will have another Joel's garage gear video up soon as well, just editing the video now.

What about a torque for the main mount bolts
@MikesManCave
@MikesManCave 2 года назад
Great question, you would think that sort of information would be in the Instruction manual.....I just tightened mine down tight, did not use a torque wrench. Have had no issues so far. I will be doing an updated video soon covering a lot of the pitfalls on the way to getting a working hoist. Also all the additional costs many don't consider. Any further questions ask away as I can add it to my next hoist related video.

@@MikesManCave Look up the Hilti or any anchor bolt manufacturer and see what torque they recommend for the particular size you are installing

I tightened them up to 85ftlb in three steps . Then rechecked them after a week or so of operation. That was using the 3/4...19mm trubolt (style) bolts that were included.
