I bought a 2 post of Joel near 3 years ago, to date best thing I have bought. I didn't get the instruction about greasing the columns but worked it out a year later when the hoist juddered like... scary. Otherwise would buy another from Joel. Good fun putting it up, like you say, a few mates helps with the lift AND the confidence to drill big holes in the concrete...(right through). Great channel, thanks.

I’m currently installing the same hoist. I did a test drill of my concrete slab & found it was 90-95mm thick. The vast majority of domestic sheds are this thickness. I’m cutting out sections of my slab & increasing the depth. I’m also going to use a higher grade concrete as per the manufacturers recs. I hope u guys test drilled ur slab to confirm the depth prior to installing the hoist. Even a 1.5t car can overload a below thickness & grade concrete slab. There’s no public liability or insurance for a backyard hoist if it fails.

Greetings from the Uk . I own a garage equipment company and although i mostly agree with what you have done installing your own lift i would however recommend the following. Get the lift installed by the lift company, reason being if there is an accident with the lift and the authoroties get involved how would you go about proving you were a competant person to install it ? Also get it load tested, in the uk it is a requirement to have the lift tested by an independant company to its maximum lifting capacity and issue a certificate to prove it. It is a royal pain to do all this but if you run a company with multiple workers this is what your up against if the worst happens. Dont want to rain on what your doing but this is my reallity in the UK. Regards,Tim

Joe Baxter install cost for this one was $0 + a sparky to wire it. If you’ve got a couple of mates you can put it up in a few hours as easy as we did. No smoke and mirrors here. First time we’ve done it, instructions were spot on and it all bolted together like a dream.

@brettus9115
@brettus9115 4 года назад
@@joebaxter4235 Yeah you'd be counting the slab in that price and it does add up quick if you don't have one already or if you physically cannot install the hoist yourself (disabled, etc)... There's a hoist near a mates place in Aitkenvale (Townsville) out the front of a house in the open, no cover and has been there for the past 8yrs that I can remember now so all that's required is a slab if you're willing to get roasted in the sun like these turkeys are! Up here you need shade ffs and I'd think most of Australia would agree anyway working on a car in the boiling sun can eat a dick!

Fullboost hello. How important was the concrete on the floor? I have heard and read that it's very important to have special harder concrete before installation. The usual concrete would not handle the load and it all may fall down and...

Got a big old Molnar four poster at my panel shop that I've owned for 25 yrs so here's a couple of tips for Aussies not sure about other countries though ,if you employ staff do not install it yourself get a pro in saves a law suit if things turn to shit also they need to be certified every five years this helps with your insurance if a car comes off, they will cover stupidity but will wipe you if it hasn't been "serviced " regularly ,cover your arse they can be deadly to life and your business

The manufacturer doesn’t state anywhere about not recommending chem set bolts in their instructions. The 18mm supplied bolts don’t have any specs. There are no 18mm ‘dynabolt types’ on the market. This specific size & type is made for this hoist by the manufacturer. Ramset state their bolt specs & the standards they’re designed to.

You are just justifying the two post that you have already purchased. No proper comparisons at all. I dare you to stand under the car and give it a really good hard shake. I have a cheap ( $3000 ) Four poster in a standard two car garage. It is on attachable wheels and I can actually move it with a falcon on it. I have a sliding jack to lift the cars wheels off the hoist wherever I need it. As for parts ...my chinese knock off, I just replaced the cables after 10 years ( got them cheap and quick) because that's what you do with a commercial one. Go to you tube and watch failures on two posts ....no thanks.
@BackyardMechanics
@BackyardMechanics 4 года назад
rob smith yeah, we fully should have purchased like 10 different types of 2 post hoists and used them all for a few months each and then just kept one of them and crowned it the king of all 2 posts. Could have had a knighting ceremony and declared it Sir 2 Post, ruler of all 2 posts. Unfortunately we have budget and size constraints so we just did what any normal SANE person would, and applied logic to our purchasing decision and arrived at this one as the best option for our garage.
