Just to add how to start: Joel’s daughter-in-law said in an interview how simply one might start marketing. Raise 100 meat chickens (they have a system that works) then keep fifty for consumption and give away 50 to prospective customers. I think they started their massive chicken enterprise close to that way. Primal Pastures in California ordered about 50 and the family got upset. They took orders ahead from prospects and sold out. They do thousands now a d still sell out! Good interview!

One thing about Joel that I love is that he understands that the more people doing it, the more it benefits us all. You seem to get that also. Your newness is refreshing. Where I live (N. Illinois) 2-10 acre properties are selling sight unseen to "urbanites" who can afford more options.

The best part for me in this video was hearing Joel say “most farmers don't like people”. 😂 I thought that was just my case. 😄 Thanks for the video and channel.

I had heard good things about him but this interview totally blew me away. I wish there was a transcription I could print and have as a little book on my shelf. I had heard someone say they thought Joe might be a little into the green peace movement, but I am now wondering if that wasn't just because he's done classes and marketing that targets green peace groups. ;) If so, that's a relief. Really impressed with this amazing guy beyond my expectations. Thanks so much for this interview!!

Thank you so so much Grace and Joel for this. I am watching this on Sunday here in the Fiji Islands in the South Pacific and we can relate to it. There is a strong move to regenerative farming but you just motivated me to be a champion of regenerative farming here in Fiji and yes, we need to live by the Lord's principles. My prayer is for the Lord to bless you both and those that are part of this initiative guided by his holy will.

Thank you so much for your awesome discussion, which goes way beyond farming to basic principles regarding why we are where we are today; not a pretty place. We need more diversity, not less. Decentralized, grass root approaches to how we deal with issues in life, not one size fits all. Independence, not dependence....

Love your work and Salatin, if I could offer one tip is reduce the background music or just cut it completely while you two are talking, it makes it harder to hear and is a bit distracting. Everyone here is interested in what you two have to say, no need to add production for the meat and potatoes of the interview to keep peoples attention. Great work here though love it. This wasn't an interview, it was a sermon! FYI, I'm not religious at all but, if I were, this would be church for me. Joel speaks things I've thought all my life and of things related, that I never thought of. He speaks my soul. Now, in my own words: In your lifetime, accumulate knowledge. Do and act on things you know to be true. Too many of us will just take what we're told as truth or direction. We need to think for ourselves, FOR OURSELVES AND OTHERS. I live in a big city and find it increasingly unbearable the amount of "ME" I'm surrounded by. IMO, We as a culture need to reconnect with the definitions of WE and CULTURE. Only then can the world fast track toward the healing we so desperately need.

Repent and believe in Jesus Christ. Recieve hope that when you die (how soon is short life over!), you will be resurrected and your soul and body saved from death/hell. Jesus paid the price for even the worst of sinners, if you believe, his sacrifice will save you. If you do not believe, there's no point in anything else and your life if meaningless.

@@theShepherdess Love how you end every vlog with a Bible verse, I got inspired to shear one of mine. You should tell your sister to look up the channel " Growing back to Eden " for inspiration, Paul is truly an inspiration for me, and Nick is tagging along with implementing animals. Not every method work for all climate zones, so not to copy, just for inspiration. Personally I do not make hot compost I just cover the weeds I pulled and scraps with woodchips . God bless you for the work you do.
@przybyla420
@przybyla420 2 года назад
I find that even after a few years there is little black soil created by back to eden method, unless initially topdressed with compost, under the mulch. Doesn’t matter the depth. Of course, it is still a game changer as far as watering is concerned - having 8” + of mulch. And the clay is being softened and tunneled in more for there being the deep mulch, but still, it must take a really long time to make it dark and crumbly. I’m zone 8b hot summers, no rain at all for 4 months during the dry season. I imagine if one were in Alabama it would be a total waste of time to make compost for perennials, just deep mulch
@przybyla420
@przybyla420 2 года назад
Even a foot a mulch doesn’t produce any black duff/compost/humus layer after three years. This clay soil eats topdressed compost like nobody’s business. Put four inches down and a few years later and it’s back to the surface of the clay, albeit darker and more crumbly. That tells me that putting compost down really helps - put it under the mulch the the soil (life) can always be taking it in as they need it, not just collecting the drips coming out of the mulch.
