What I always loved about Joey's form is he never really ever looks like he's even trying. Yet his sound was always so powerful. His blank expression mask added even more to that. Miss that guy.
Average? He’s pretty dope for someone that basically had spinal meningitis. She raised the bar for metal coming out during 1998 - 2007. Not too many METAL drummers like him. I didn’t say death metal, or nu metal, or any other of the ridiculous sub categories. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Suicidal….even early Slayer…them guys have nothing on Joey. Not here to argue at all, I love so many different types of music. But if you disagree, fill me in, maybe there are some dope ass drummers that I haven’t heard of. And I love being put on to some new metal!
He wasn't perhaps the most technical drummer or the fastest "toxic slipknot fans will attack me for that". But he suited slipknot perfectly and inspired a shit tonne of kids to take up drummer. Rest in peace mate.
@@pr-xy1dw actually, anyone can be like Joey. I mean skill wise. If you practice hard enough. But not everyone can afford to buy a 20000$ kit. But yeah i will go with skills. With his skills you can get into almost every band.
@@looksirdroids9134 Super average but you can't fault his creativity in the early years. Sure, there's a lot better drummers out there but I loved his style.
i just want to say fuck the 2 of you who said he's average. who gives a fuck about how technical someone can play or whatever it is that music elitists talk about. it sounds good & it feels good. that's what's important.
On July 27 I woke up, turned on the cell phone, opened RU-vid after a while and this video was recommended to me, I saw it. That same day I went to sleep and they knew that one of the musicians I most appreciated had died. It makes me feel sad
I listened to the whole self-titled album on the night of the 26th, got the news the next day on my birthday. Not a bad birthday, but I was deeply saddened by his passing.
This is why I love Joey, Vendetta, Dead Memories and especially his Scar the Martyr work - it's all about the feel and character. All the drummers I like have a distinct signature feel and sound to them. It's not about how fast you are or how complicated your parts are. First few seconds of this clip are a prime example of that.
Это просто не возможно, я плачу и восхищаюсь, мне грустно от того ,что такой талантливый человек умер так рано ,и обидно ,что с ним так ужасно и лицемерно обошлась его группа . Джоуи мы все тебя помним
Gosh he is just so amazing and talented and I’m in awe EVERY time I see him play. He just has that magic when he plays. It makes me so happy to see. We love you and miss you so much Joey Rest In Peace ❤️🖤❤️🖤❤️✨✨✨✨✨✨
Joey's playing is truly something else. Usually drummers that play so relaxed and calm bother me, but somehow it always feels like he is giving it all and it always sound so powerful. He was just extremely calm in his art, and thats amazing.
I watched this video all the time as a kid and Vendetta became one of my favorite songs because of Joey’s drumming. Slipknot is the most influential bands in my life and Joey is one of the most influential musicians. Rest in power to an absolute legend.
He was the reason I started playing drums.I remember buying that Slipknot record back in like 98 or 99.After they played Ozzfest on the side stage.I missed their performace because they were on so early.I went and bought the CD the day after and was blown away.I couldn't believe how awesome his drumming was.Motivated me to start playing drums and I've been playing ever since.
Haven't been exposed to many drummers outside of the mainstream, have you? I only ask because I once though Joey was the best ever. A drum god. But once I was introduced to more underground bands, I realized very fast just how "meh" he actually is. I love the guy. He was a major inspiration to me when I started drumming. But he's not even in the same league as thousands of other drummers.
@@TheJokesterSCR Bro, a lot of underground metal drums have speed and no substance. Joey set up every kick perfectly and played to each tune. It’s not a matter of who the fastest is. Speed is nothing more than an asset. His playing goes significantly deeper than what you’re thinking. If you judge every drummer purely based on speed and chops, then you’re missing the point. There is a reason people love his playing, there is a reason he’s considered a legend.
@@Christopher-md7tf the more technical and faster are the good songs. take for example crazy train by black sabbath, or unforgiven of mettalica. They don't even have blastbeats! Terrible songs XD
fck Slipknot, Joey did everything for the band never cared for him, they used him when he was useful the moment he got sick he was kicked out of the band. Sick human being man.
@@viscabarca4408 That's why I hate Slipknot, Joey literally gave his life for the band, and they treated him like shit. Joey was an amazing person that was treated in an horrible way. Rest in peace.
@@biohazardviolence didn’t realize so many people were there to see them “treat him like shit”. He got sick, couldn’t do the job anymore… so they had to remove him… and you idiots are the ones taking it super personal lmao. So weird how you guys hold a grudge when it seemed Joey never did. Quit being weird about it, as if you know anything and taking personal offense to it.
That is the one and only time I’ve ever seen Joey incorporate his mini- timbales (4 x timbalitos) into his grooves. Edit : Love to know the dollar value of that massive black & gold AHIG tour kit.
I have listenned to many drummers, and no way joey is definitly one of the best drummer (technically and musically). Maybe he uses too much blast and double kicks but he's got a bloody sense of music.
I agree there are many drummers who are better than joey in every aspect of his drumming like the blast beats, double bass. But just like Lars inspired a generation of rock drummers joey inspired a generation of metal drummers to play fast like him eventually surpassing him in the end
100%. You should check drum covers out for the Slipknot songs "Diluted" & "Liberate". Dude was just so creative, almost infused jazz drumming into metal in a weird strange way lol
one thing people don't notice about Joey is how cool calm n collective he is, relaxed and balanced hyper focused on sound and beat accuracy. 2:26 you see his incorporated kits he had live.
U guy's realize that joey was titled one the best drummers of are time right. So no matter what band he plays with his skill and experience will make them do well.
Uno de los mejores bateristas de los últimos tiempos junto con Dany de tool gente única, gente muy talentosa que hab dejado huella bateristas auténticos no hay ni habrá nadie como ellos Joey deja un gran legado descanse en paz.
People should stop criticizing him just because he can only play fast. HE'S PERFECT FOR THE BAND HE'S IN. it's not like he has to quit and play for someone like Rush. every drummer is perfect for their band and that's the type of music they should stick to playing, in Joey's case, it's fast, hard Heavy Metal!
AHIG is such an underrated and undervalued album with both fans & critics. Yet it has so many great songs with catchy hooks/melodies & Heavy AF i.e. Sulfur, Psychosocial, Dead Memories, Vendetta, Butcher's hook, Gehenna & AHIG title track
@@looksirdroids9134 Bro if you really got nothing better to do then reply to every comment with something negative then I’m questioning your priorities
@maxisslipknot Maxi! lol Yes, you're right. I realized that music and specially Slipknot and Murderdolls are my life like you say, the problem Is that I never admited it like you do. Their music make me feel like anything else in this world and It's great when I feel alone or afraid. They make me listen my own feelings on music, is incredible. Now talkin' about Joey, he is ALL to me. He is my first REAL Idol and my biggest inspiration, so I already voted him 'cause I also wanna see him win :)
@insightmetal I'm pretty sure someone else has already pointed it out for you, but in case not... He's not "showing off" any skills, hes playing actual songs, hence the repetitive beats.
Joey Jordinson logic: Has huge ass, expensive, signature drum kit, with a very well tuned and selected sound. Use triggers........... that sounds like shit
passionoflovers Yeah, i just HATE the sound of the toms on AHIG, and the kick on Vol. 3. Like, what kind of right minded person mixes the most ear-piercing drum sound ever known to man, and still thinkit sounds good?
Triggers are combined with the Mics to get the audio. Maybe not on the kicks but I know one the snares and toms that's how it will usually work. And usually the acoustic drums will have more of their sound present than the triggers.
@@passionoflovers what tom sound are you comparing, this? When the drums arent miced up. That and I like the Tom's from all hope is gone triggered or not.
@@Doer231 Joey used to bring that energy back in 1999-2005. Now just look at Jay, he has way more energy, if you don't see that then that's your problem
