R.I.P Keith Moon (August 1946 - September 1978) R.I.P Jimmy Sullivan (The Rev) (February 1981 - December 2009) R.I.P Neil Peart (September 1952 - January 2020) R.I.P Joey Jordison (April 1975 - July 2021)
Joeys blast beats are so nice. He’s one of the only drummer I would rewind to hear his fills over again. His fills on eyeless is amazing, I listen to that song just for the drums.
I still think the Rev was like the damn Ringo Starr of metal. You know bro could’ve played so much more intricate and crazy stuff, but everything he played just fit the song perfectly every time
R.I.P Neil Peart. has sadly died to brain cancer in January 7th, 2020. REST EASY NEIL!!!! You may have died in the real world, but you will never die in our hearts.
@@itsmedante.5325 why do you keep hating on everyone that says this. You are the male version of a karen, you are like a chad. Just let people say what they wanna say
He was trash at best, and his death was pathetic, not something to be glorified. He seemed like a good dude, and probably a good friend and everything. Not saying I wished any ill upon him or his family, but FUCK! All these 15 yo/s put him on a pedestal because avenged was the only band they ever listened too.
For me John Bonham is the greatest Drummer of all time. Him play in one accord with Jimmy Page Guitarplay. Fantastic !!! But Keith Moon was very good too !!!
Are you kidding right? Joe Morello, Buddy Rich, Art Blakey, are real drum Gods. There is a lot of better drummers than Bonham... Carter Beuford is one of them
Danny Carey is on another level. He's not just keeping time. He's accenting the vocals, the music, he's driving the band forward. Credit the man for the talent and amazing ability he shares with us. He is mind blowing.
I do agree sir. Tool is one of my favorite bands and Danny Carey is on of my favdrummers. I would put him in my top 10 favorites, but people go by "the best" Too many genres to compare Buddy Rich to Johnny Rabb. Both killer drummers and I have sent them both, but you can't what is faster, a jet boat, or a jet car. They both go fast.
In this video, Jimmy The Rev played a song called “Beast and The Harlot”. That intro is really amazing and cool. He was talented and drummer best ever❤
Ian Paice (Deep Purple) is one of my favorites--one of the great earlier drummers...who is still active into his 70s, I Believe, even after having suffered a stroke.
@@jacekszantowicz2330 I LOVE! Ian Paice's drumming on "Burn"--but what are you referring to, Specifically, Jacek? (Btw: Ritchie Blackmore's solos--both the one on the song "Burn" on the studio album (also called "Burn") and the one on the same song ("Burn"), but this Time on the live album ("Made in Europe"), are among My Very Favorites!!! (And Ritchie Blackmore's solo in the studio album's ("Burn") song without vocals, "A-200", is, in my opinion, "A Quintessential Ritchie Blackmore Guitar Solo!", because not only is it one of his Best, but it also incorporates many of his Favorite/Typical techniques, Up To That Time/Era (I say this, because his following work with his subsequent band, "Rainbow", was quite different...)
Neil was a God. Not only as a drummer , but as the lyricist of one of the greatest rock bands of all time( check out Rush's album sales records) this man wrote a soundtrack to HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of Rush fans lives worldwide....RIP Professor Peart.
Plain and simple, NO rock bands body of progressive work over 40 years can match RUSH.Many great rock bands I still love today, from the Beatles, ZEP,Aerosmith,Stones,Who, on and on, did it as long and successfully with NEW music as RUSH with 99.9% founding band mates without transitions. Peace be with the Holy Trinity of Rock...
Mike Mangini is miles ahead of all of these drummers when it comes to timing, technicality, and polyrhythms. The guy is a machine. He's the only drummer in the world who can play three time signatures at once and also do it ambidextrously.
@@andigunawan7920 Just because you aren't musically inclined and you give the rebuttal of a 12 year old it doesn't mean that there is someone else who can do the things he does on a kit. When the title suggests the word best when it comes to drumming Mike Mangini is it period. If you don't think he is then prove to me that he isn't... I'll wait.
And he could do it on about the smallest set a a big band would allow. It’s weird how nowadays it seems like a drummer is graded by how fast the double bass kicks
people fail to realize today that there would be no peart, Bonham, or really any great drummers today without buddy rich. I've heard peart say that rich was the best and one of his influences
Exactly. Some of these metal dudes have a machine gun kick drum, but are no match for the legends you mentioned. I would also add Ginger Baker by the way.
Neil Peart all day. Playing fast doesn’t make you a good drummer, it makes a fast song a good song. Drummers for Pantera, Blink 182, Metallica and a few others have exceptional talent. Neil Peart is just on another level.
Gonna be real, and it's completely my opinion, but the big 3 are John Bonham, Danny Carey, and Neil Peart. The Rev was amazing. Not only due to his skills as a drummer but also writing and composing a7x's music. Musical "greatness" is almost always opinion. There are so many drummers who are perfect in their projects but cant come close to Danny or Neil in just overall greatness. I'm glad we have so much good music.
@@AlexJones-xz8oc Questlove is so often overlooked and it disappoints me. He may not seem technical enough for many music fans, but his rhythm and soul are unmatched. But to answer your question yes, he is definitely up there for me. He is in my opinion one of the greats.
I also found Gee Anzalone to be a drummer to impress me. There is a bunch of really great drummers out there and I am amazed how many different playstyles exist even in just one major genre. Metal rules, Rock on! P.S.: I believe some of the greatest drummers are not metal drummers, but I like this genre better than e.g. pop or jazz.
Exactly...but also need to add GInger Baker, Hal Blaine, Billy Cobham, Jim Gordon, Richie Hayward, Vinnie Coliuta, Jack DeJohnette, Tony Williams, Mitch Mitchell, MIchael Shrieve, Dave Weckl and Gene Krupa... Now my list is complete........!!
What's wrong with it being the list of a kid? He listed his ten favorites...not everyone is old enough to remember when Caveman Carl first banged one rock against another; that doesn't render their opinion invalid...
Everyone puts bonham no. 1 he’s not close he did hit hard and sounded cool but ginger baker killed Jim and was the first double kick drum, Keith moon also and Mitch Mitchell never gets a mention, Danny Carey easily top five…I love Zep but there is better and bands that didn’t rip off half the songs on the first 2 albums.
My favourite drummer is Vinnie Paul Abbott His fills are amazing and it's going well with guitar It's not always about the speed and ability it's about musical talent R.I.P. Vincent Paul Abbott R.I.P. Darrell Lance "Dimebag" Abbott
My Top Ten: 1) John Bonham 2) Neil Peart 3) Ginger Baker 4) Phil Rudd 5) Tommy Lee 6) Dave Grohl 7) Charlie Watts 8) Keith Moon 9) Mitch Mitchel 10) Alex Van Halen
This video should be called "Some Top Drummers In Rock and Metal." If you compile a list of top drummers across all genres of music then some of these would not even make the top 100 list of greatest drummers lol 😁
music fans fighting over "who is the best..." is like two religious ppl argueing whose god is better... you will NEVER find a TopWhatever in music on which all music fans agree >.< for example: i think neil peart is the best^^ but ik that 90%+ of music fans will agrue with me over that :) same goes for any other musician on earth^^
When I arrived at Joey, I was stunned. His legs didn't move, but the drums were very fast. His hand beats the drum with a heavy sound. He sat very still.
When I saw Dave my thought was that he would be too humble to accept even a top 10 drummer award. Definitely knows his way around a drum set, but there's just so many ways to play the drums too.
@@frultra I do like more modern rock styles, many of which Dave has been a major influence upon, but John never even had the chance to be a part of. Sadly, we can only speculate about how much farther John could have taken the rock drummers of today. But I do firmly belive that he would be very proud to have shared a stage with Dave.
In no particular order of preference, this is my Top 10: Joey Baron, Terry Bozzio, Dave Weckl, Tomas Haake, Matt Garstka, Aron Mellergård, Jimmy Chamberlin, Sarah Thawer, El Estepario Siberiano and Eloy Casagrande. Honorable mention for Vinnie Colaiuta, Brann Dailor and Kenny Grohowski.
I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone mentioned Mario. He's definitely top 5 for me... The guy is so underrated only cause Gojira is unknown relatively.
My personal top ten (in random order) would be........... 1. Gavin Harrison 2. Marco Minneman 3. Craig Blundell 4. Steve Gadd 5. Bill Bruford 6. Jeremy Stacey 7. Vinnie Colaiuta 8. Carter Beauford 9. Bernard Purdie 10. Chuck Sabo So many great players out there.
But also neil Pert is just the god man hes untouchable man is surrounded by drums and cymbals with acoustic and electric absolute legend may he rest in peace🙏
Not to disagree with you about Neil - just about the kit. The kit does not make the drummer. The drummer makes the kit - period. A great drummer would make a kids first christmas set sound good.
My Top Ten Drummers all time. Jonathan Moffett The Rev Keith Moon Roger taylor Phil Collins Mike Portnoy John Bonham Danny Carey Alex Van Halen Neil Peart
WhoDarestheMAN gamer He may not have been the fastest drummer, but he knows how to make music, is amazing at playing drums, and sings at the same time. I’d like to see you do one of those thing
No Jon Bonham? Come on! You can't leave the Thunder God off this list... He, Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy will always be the three best drummers ever. Ginger Baker and Jeff Porcoro both deserve some respect as well.
The Rev man. Ugh such an amazing drummer. Same with Joey and Neil. They're all gone sadly. The best of the best and they are not longer here with us. Truly one of the hardest pills to swallow
That was a really cool tier list, specially for danny carey, but I think you've left some really good drummers such as Chad Smith (RHCP) and Nico McBraine (Iron Maiden)
WOW what a sad case to lose a few of these legends past few years. My top drummers in my eyes VINNY PAUL ABBOTT ROCK IN PEACE, THE REV ROCK IN PEACE and JOEY FKING JORDISON ROCK IN PEACE with your boy PAUL GREY!!! LEGANDS in the METAL WORLD!!! All us Maggots are weeping today!!!!
It seems someone forgot about Stewart Copeland, Carter Beauford and most importantly John Bonham. John Bonham should always be and will always be number one forever and ever, even if there’s a fire.
Yes ,it seems if you use double bass , you are therefore in the top ten drummers lol ! Non of these noise makers could hold a candle to Bonzo , Stuart Copeland , Buddy Rich , Cozy Powell , Ringo , Charlie Watts ,Phil Collins and many , many more !
Its such a subjective thing. Everyone both of you named are amazing. So are the drummers on this dudes list. Its why you can never say who is the best at something like this. Everyone has there own criteria to go bysnd it just comes down to personal preference.
@@damiencross7334 Too a point , it's true what you said . But bar one or two on that list they are not technically better than any of the drummers mentioned, just ' run of the mill ' stickmen , who use double bass which is nothing new .Ginger baker started using double kick bass , years ago and who could drum most of the drummers in this list into the ground . I think it's just a fan boys list .
@@SISU889 i get what your saying but you could say its not about doing anything new. It could be about how well people do what they do. Does anyone really do anything new anymore? Just cause ginger baker was playing double bass in the 70s doesn't discredit how good joey jordison is as a player. That being said ginger is in my top ten but so is joey. I just like a lot of different kinds of playing i guess.
Without question, Just in compositional skill alone Neil puts everyone else so far behind . . . . with every other drummer there is a degree or two of random-ness especially in their solos, well if anybody has ever heard a Neil Peart solo, they aren't going to be able to say that about that drummer
Honorable Mention Phil Collins/Chester Thompson (Genesis), Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) Sheila E and yes Prince (people don't look at him as a drummer, they only know his guitar work)
Man! It takes balls to try to cut it down to a Top 10. Way too many awesome players out there with talent, chops, grooves and power. Todd Sucherman, Larrie Londin, Jeff Paccaro, Steve Gadd, Buddy Rich, Simon Phillips, John Bonham, Vinnie Caliauta, Steve Smith, Carter Brufford and Dennis Chambers - just to name a few. All great players on this thread. My respect. Monster players at an elite level that deserve a Top 50!!!
Danny Carey hands down. His set up alone is insane added with his particular style? BUT Neil Peart is certainly a LEGEND! I merely voted on the living.
I don’t understand the lack of respect for Danny Carey on so many lists. I also don’t understand the amount of respect for Dave Grohl. Don’t get me wrong, I like Dave Grohl, but i was never blown away by him behind his kit during the Nirvana era.
@@mmedrano21,i think with Dave Grohl it is because he is an all round fine musician taking in other instruments, he is an excellent front man and overall a decent human being.
Thank you very much for the list you've prepared. It is evident that it has required significant effort, and as a rock enthusiast, I have no objection. This list is tailored according to your own preferences. However, for me, the drummer I bow to with deep respect is the "artist" Michael Thomas Tucker. Perhaps, due to being a member of The Sweet, a band known for its glam rock genre, or maybe because of his makeup, he might be overlooked and not given much attention by rock music enthusiasts. But in my eyes, he is a legend. The clean tone in his beats, that incredible precision, turns him into a "giant" in my perspective. We lost this giant of a man to leukemia in 2002, and I remember him with great respect and affection...
