While Italians introduced Catholicism to Croatians (or used to be one church till 1000 AD) and Croatians use Latin script. Though Serbs use Latin (Italian/Roman) based script and Cyrillic (Greek-based) script. So Greeks influenced one side while the Italians/Romans influenced the other. Russians influenced both sides when we split from 'em like 1600 years ago or so - when there was no Russia it was more Slavic based.
