@@dethkor_Li Joey is a legend, that will never change, and his legacy is in Eloy's hands just as it was in Jay's hands, what I mean is that Eloy masterfully plays other rhythms such as SAMBA, CUBAN SALSA, BRAZILIAN FORRO RHYTHM, SAMBA, other African rhythms, he has a vast repertoire of technical resources, which Joey didn't have, not because he wasn't a great drummer, but because ELOY HAD CONTACT WITH THE BEST TEACHERS IN BRAZIL SINCE HE WAS A CHILD, and South American musicians often don't have financial resources, they learn by intuition and that doesn't teach, if you have the natural gift
@@henriquefenrirlins3747yea right bro he was a rich gen z with RU-vid. How does he afford equipment at 12 years old. Latin afro crap doesn't belong in slipknot. Take that crap back to sepultura.
It's not that Eloy is more genius than Joey. He's a genius too, but he's the only one who can execute the studio drums with almost perfection. Joey wrote the songs, but could not play them the same way (due to variations or getting tired). When Eloy tells his story, you can understand clearly that he practice a lot to play hours of a show without dropping a single beat.
You aware of the illness Joey had?? Couldnt care less about Eloy or Jay, Jordison wrote and invented a way of drumming by playing a mixture of NuMetal/BlackMetal, he made it popular. Joey could still play those songs flawlessly until he got sick... Discusting comment, anything to say "ElOy Is ThE beSt"
Joey will always be incredible for the parts he created. He did not hit hard but was so smooth and effortless flying around the kit. The power AND precision that Eloy plays with is staggering. He’s taking these iconic parts to the stratosphere and giving this band an enormous lift. I hope they let him have creative input on the new album. I think he can push them.
It's very satisfying to see Eloy playing. Lots of technique, a different groove and lots of creativity. The small variations he made seem to fit the songs even better. The final part of the video shows this clearly.
Eloy said in a interview that on the first rehearsal he started playing Joey's parts note by note, and Clown told him that he wasn't hired because he can play those parts perfectly just like studio, but because of the energy he brings and the band feeds of.
Three great drummers with different playing styles. The songs are perfect with either of them playing. No need for comparison to say which is the best. It's just a matter of particular taste.
Is there no comparison? Jay is an excellent drummer but there is no comparison to Eloy for Slipknot's style. Much respect to Joey but Eloy is a beast with drumsticks
@@marcelprestes3842Yes bro, there is no comparison within them, as the guy said, it's 3 particular different playing styles. Even Joey didn't play everything accurate to the studio live. It's a matter of taste, you can't speak for everyone. As a fan i like both, considering the particular band cycles they were.
@@marcelprestes3842One thing i want to ask as well, we are comparing the guys as drummers or as SLIPKNOT drummers? If it's just drummers (refering to technique), Eloy wins, period.
@@rogergermanodejesus estepario n é limpo n mano.
I saw them in a similar intimate setting in 1998 at Club Oz in Killeen Texas. I had never heard of them and they actually were the openers with Machine Head headlining and Coal Chambers in the middle. As a drummer myself and musician- I was blown away by their opening performance. And I wasn't the only one, because when Coal Chambers took the stage- the only thing you could hear were chants of "Slipknot". I felt bad for Coal Chambers. Slipknot mingled and drank amongst the crowd the rest of the show. It was wild. A year later Im in California laying on the couch watching the Box (a music video station channel) and wait and bleed video starts and I hop up and am like wtf they fucking made it and I saw them in a shit hole club. And the only reason I was at that show is because I was asked to DD my friends and so they paid for my ticket
So every comments on here is made by hispanic people, being completly bias by nationality, Joey invented those songs and is actually a legend. Eloy replaced Igor Cavalera and after he replace Joey Jordison, great talent indeed...
So sick of the fanboys downing Eloy. Lol I was pissed off as well when Jay was fired, however... Eloy is doing things behind the kit that no Slipknot drummer has done during a live show in a long, long time. YES Joey wrote the parts, YES Joey was a HUGE creative driving factor in Slipknot, YES Joey was insanely talented. But in the majority of Slipknot performances, you'll find that he uses a lot of off-track fills to take up space and 'cheat' the parts he played in the studio. Not to mention, Joey played sh*t FAST during a lot of their live performances. Sorry, but Jay can't even be in this conversation. The FACT in this matter remains that Eloy Casagrande consistently delivers the precise performance that these songs demand. Anyone that tries to downplay what he's doing or take anything at all away from his performances clearly knows nothing about drums, let alone music.
The point of off-track fills to cheat during live shows is an important point that isn't discussed enough tbh Jay over relied on this technique to the point it kind of made the songs boring (particularly those with blast beat sections). While it's painful to admit with the loss of Joey, Eloy is the best drummer on a technical level they've ever had. It isn't that Joey is necessarily "worse" than Eloy, but, there's just such a difference in the way they both trained and practiced. Eloy comes from a place of training and studying more like a classical musician would for percussion and it's extremely evident in his playing and technicality.
I think you’re mistaken…. Slipknot will never make songs like the ones we know and love again. Slipknot is slowly turning into a cover band at this point. At the end of the day both Eloy and Jay are/were just covering Joey’s parts. And being that Joey was the one who made the parts, he could improvise any way he wanted to on stage. Sometimes raw and crazy imperfect drums is better than super technical and perfect. Keith Moon would be another example of that
I just saw them live for my 9th time at the 25th anniversary show. Joey is goat. I have HELLA respect for Jay and a sour taste about how they dropped him. But Eloy..... Eloy is built different. I haven't heard Slipknot drums sound like that in almost 20 years. I saw them for their 99' debut and now in their 24' lineup. It was a WHOLE NEW show.
Eloy reminds me of Igor Cavalera back in his prime in 96. Watch Sepultura's performance at Pink Pop that year. Igor f**ked around, you'll find out. He spent time training with the Gracie family, of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and MMA fame, who can also be seen in the video Attitude. Under pale grey sky we shall Arise...
With all the respect that all of them deserves, here it is my 2 cents as a metal drummer: Eloy is the most technical. Eloy and Joey are very good to put the music and creativity in first place. Joey and Eloy play drums with character, with emotion that is palpable even without seeing them, just listening. Joey created so much new drum parts across the years and didn't see Jay bringing the same stuff into the table and we are yet to see what Eloy will bring (composition).
Cool video comparison... Eloy takes the lead ANYTIME on live performances, the dude is just a perfect drum beast. But I'm not sure if that is actually Joey's original audio... plus, to be a good comparison, at least all audio of the three, should be live footage... not studio or not even that...
i think something ppl should also keep in mind is. with no joey there would be no eloy. joey gave a barrier for eloy to break. (also u cant really compare the studio to a live version bc ur going to play in each situation differnt) edit: also forgot to say that joey is prob a big reason eloy and alot of other drummers around the world are where they are today.
I understand the hype around Eloy, he is incredible, but people seems to suffer of lack of memory because...... JOEY just begun ALL this stuff. He always will be the best❤🎉
Honest opinion, Eloy is going to revive Slipknot while doing proper justice to the past (Joey), bettering the present (Jay), and giving hope BACK to the future. Dare I say… All Hope is NOT Gone? lol In truth, Jay was a placeholder that overstayed his welcome. He’s a damn good drummer, but he never made Slipknot better. Joey always made whatever came next, at least, equal to what was before if not better. His versatility created such a unique sound and listening experience whereas Jay, you alwayssss felt like you’ve heard it before… Jay was certainly a lesser talented drummer than Joey, which is not a knock on Jay but the reality toward just how unique Joey was. Now that Eloy is here, he brings back the grove and power Slipknot has been missing for so long, elements to the drums that Jay NEVERRRR could create or even replicate.
@Stefanoski88 The fact that i never stated that, tells me a lot about your reading comprehension. Either way.. just list me 5 drummers. Educate me. Im really curious.
1:38 i hate that he replaces the double bass for weak ass drum rolls. Dude couldn’t keep up. Jay wasn’t the best for slipknot. He never showed anything new, he always sounded like a replacement. F
@bituos Depends on the drummer. Look at Gene Hoglan. Dude doesn't use electronics and he drums circles around Eloy. Inferno from Behemoth, only triggers his bass drums. Everything else is him. If Eloy were to play Extreme Metal, I'd bet he'd definitely trigger his bass drums. Good argument though.
you can see that JOEY JORDISON doesn’t even look like he’s trying and exaggerating. His movements and precision is just RELAXED YET DAMN! GOOD AND EFFORTLESS. JOEY JORDISON has inspired almost all drummers today maybe includes jay and eloy 😂 and he made “SLIPKNOT” and what/where they are now. 📌JAY is trying to copy JOEY and ELOY has his own technique but it is not sound of slipknot and its getting exaggerating and trying hard and hurrying as if chasing someone. 😂 JOEY JORDISON is irreplaceable NO (1)one can replace the #1 END~~
Joey criou e dele a melhor versão.
Jay is fast making me stunned amaze, slipknot just more like dream theater with jay Eloy is powerful making me do more head banging like metal band should do
@@fadilakbar8607 I'll try to explain it to you. eloy's double bass drum parts: tu tu tu tu tu tu tu tu tu tu Jay's double bass drum parts: tu tutu tu tu tutu tu tu tu tutu
A unica compração é do Jay e do Eloy.
Jay lacks the finesse and groove, he just starts blasting on everything instead of actually feeling it out and adding nuance and flow. Jay was a cheap clone. Eloy is a drummer.
Eloy’s power technique and brutality might fit Slipknot’s future directions, but with all due respect, I REALLY FCKING LOVE JAY’S CREATIVITY AND GROOVE especially in the Album .5 The Gray Chapter. Honestly i prefer slipknot to go balance in groove, melody, and heaviness. I don’t like much of their songs in their early albums ‘cause for me theyre a bit too brutal and less melody and groove, but i love almost all of their songs in .5 TGC and We Are Not Your Kind
@DaviSilva-uo8zm I do prefer Jay and Joey over Eloy. Yeah ghost notes are cool, but that alone isn't gonna make my jaw drop. I gotta hear what he does in the studio. He's doing well live, no doubt. Just don't like how his kit sounds besides his bass drum.
