Ciaccona (from "Partita II a violino solo senza basso" BWV 1004). Recorded in December 2019 in Villa Tuscolana, Frascati (Roma). Sanza Meta produzioni. Guitar by Walter Verreydt.
as a violinist, i prefer to listen to this piece played by a great guitarist like this, than on the violin. and the same for the other polyphonic movements from the Bach solo violin works. every instrument has its own characteristics, and with the violin, it's quite difficult to play complex chord sequences smoothly and perfectly in tune. but on the guitar, the chords just flow effortlessly (or at least someone like Andrea makes it sound that way); there's no interruption of the rhythm, no ugly string crossings, etc. this was just pure pleasure.
I have never heard a guitar sing and scream and cry and wail and flow so painfully beautifully. Like a raging waterfall, and at times the softest of intimate whispers. Hushed reverence interspersed with blazing fire and fury. The effortless mastery is, astonishing. The purity pours out his fingers like glacial ice melting into a powerful, crystal stream. A flood of sweet perfection, twirling and twisting with a bitter and crisp and measured ferocity. I’ve heard Bach’s Chaconne called, “The Mountain.” Andrea soars over the peaks of this mountain, with effortless ease, even perfectly adding flourishes, trills and harmonics…! A masterpiece and a triumph of expression. Bravo, bravo, bravo. I cannot stop drinking in the beauty of this performance. This is the best Chaconne I have ever heard. I could drown in its magnificence. Thank you for this gift, to my ears and soul and heart.
the seconds, the minutes, the hours, the days, weeks, months, and years of dedication and practice that it take to play something like this! 52 billion years from now this will still be a masterpiece of creation.
Bravooo!!!👏👏
What sets this performance apart is the phrasing and rubato. The phrases have the sense of time they need to make them not mechanical. Its almost outside of time like gregorian chant. Beautiful and as it should be.
And, I should add that the phrasing puts the emphasis on the right notes, where others have an odd emphasis which makes the phrases not make sense. It's almost like this could be perfectly set to words!
Ever since decades I'm a little bit obsessed by Bach's Chaconne. Be it violin or guitar, I've probably heard all interpretations of the greats, Barrueco or Heifetz, John Feely or Hilary Hahn .. all the greats ... but this! ... This is divine and otherworldly in terms of technique and interpretation, from the true-to-Bach-portions to the liberties in ornamentation. It's something else, and after hearing it dozens of times, I still can't fathom the depth of this grace- and masterful version. Thank you for sharing this gem with the world.
Bellissimo. Non mi stanco mai di riascoltarla. Complimenti.Ho cominciato a suonicchiare la chitarra purtroppo in età anziana... E' uno strumento unico. Grazie a Segovia e a tanti suoi allievi.
definitely, Mr Andrea De Vitis is one of the giant artists in the world and an excellent performer of Bach. It touches my heart so easily. Thanks for uploading.
Grazie
Indeed! So many world class performances we can hear & watch on RU-vid. This young man really put in a great deal of work deciding where to give the piece breathing room. Flawless playing AND amazing sound & video editing. ‘Nuff said.
_IMHO, there is only _*_one_*_ thing wrong with the performances of this masterpiece! It's the question of who has the best interpretation! I just imagine that this argument will go on for an eternity of eternities in one of the back rooms of heaven! Can't wait to get into this one! GOD bless you Andrea De Vitis, brilliant_
Grande maestro @andreadevitis BRAVO!!!!
That is one really beautiful Chaconne Andrea ! I love your sound and you play with a lot of panache !!! Bravo You left a very strong , memorable music impression ! I’ll be coming back to this many times for inspiration ! Take a bow ! Bravo
Bravo.
Congratulations ! Andrea , what a strong and unique musical personality ! Such a beautiful interpretation! It’s very difficult to find a performance as extraordinary as yours. Usually the Great Reference of Segovia’s way of playing makes it impossible to anybody to run away from his majestic priny, but you did it! That’s yours! Only your way of feeling and expressing it to us ! Man, you are great ! God bless you forever ! Please keep posting here! You ‘ ve just made my day ! Bravo !! Che bello!! 👏👏👏👏
