after so many years of trying, finally a great performance... Savall achieved it, clarity, finesse and balance.

Baroque music is one of the best and Bach, of course, was the greatest of the era.

Words cannot describe how much I adore Bach and this piece in particular, not only is his music a grand example of beauty and craftsmanship, it is like going on an exploration. With the rich, multi-layered, and fine-tuned counterpoint it is as if the music is a long lost cathedral and you alone are charged with exploring it to uncover its hidden treasures.

Growing up in a time and place when a Bach recording was rare ,I am SO glad to have lived long enough to be able to access such fine performances of so much and varied music...who says there are no miracles ?......

The great conductor Jordi Savall, one of the major figures in the field of early music reminded me the other giant, the late Karl Richter performing with the Munchener Bach Orchester and Bach Choir the same masterpiece of JSB in the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in June 1972 in Athens and also August Wenzinger and Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Istanbul - what a masterpiece... a miracle! This piece really showcases the absurd attention to the detail J. Savall is famous for. Also, Le Concert des Nations is absolutely flawlessly. That makes this interpreation, if not the best -- I personally think it is, though --, at least the most special one.

When I see Mass in B minor on youtube I head directly toward Quoniam to check how it is performed, because I think it is the most difficult aria for the bass and natural hornist . And in this performance it was done very well by the both the hornist and the bass

I like this orchestra. I believe they are in Barcelona, where even street music, generally, has good acoustics. They are well synced, and pleasing to the ear.

This is, by far, my favourite interpretation of this masterpiece! ¡Sublime!

Verglichen mit J.E. Gardiner zieht Savall das Tempo im ersten Kyrie etwas an - es ist ein wirkliches "Andante" kein "Lento" - und das bekommt diesem unvergleichlichen Stück sehr gut. Überhaupt eine der allerschönsten Aufnahmen der Messe, die man im Internet finden kann.

I keep coming back to this especially to Domine Deus at 31:00. Great tempo, great treatment by the soloists, and the nature scenes are just perfect. Whole performance is wonderful.

Magnifique! This is another of my favourite B minor Mass besides those of Gardiner, Corboz, Nelson and Savall. The Benedictus, sung movingly here by Emiliano Gonzalez Toro and accompanied so sublimely by the superb flautist stands out amongst the rest (I mean from the other B minor masses) for me at least! Merci beaucoup.

Utterly and completely BEAUTIFUL! Savall a chosi l'abbaye de Fontfroide - un lieu d'une beaute incroyable tout plein de memoires... the whole piece is utterly brilliant. Stephan McLeod ist ein genie und auch Jordi Savall. DONA NOBIS PACEM en este tiempo de guerra y tragedia - que Dios ayude a a los pobres de Gaza! Estamos experimentando lo mas ALTO y lo mas BAJO del mundo - Bach y Israel.

Cercavo il dona nobis pacem e forse era meglio se non aprivo questo video. A parte la qualità sonora della registrazione, un tempo così veloce (forse a 120) non fa apprezzare nulla di un andante che qui andante non è. Non si apprezza la costruzione di una armonia che parte dai bassi ed arriva ai soprani con una costruzione magnifica. Ha il tempo di una fuga. Torno da Rilling e da Richter.

On se demande ce que reprochent les 5 "dislikers". Pourtant tout est là dès les premières mesures. L'acoustique un poil trop réverbérante de l'abbaye, peut-être?

Sanctus waaaaaaay too fast

Bénéficiant de l'acoustique millénaire de Fontfroide, on a plaisir à écouter cette jolie musique qui n'a pas grand-chose à voir avec Bach, les instruments sonnant comme ceux d'un orchestre de bal paysan. Il est sympa Jordi, mais il nous livre des antiquités en carton depuis 40 années. On l'aime bien quand-même, il est sympa, mais c'est bien tout.
