Love Digger! Could listen to him all day. He’s the main reason I became a Liverpool fan 34 years ago while growing up in Malawi 🇲🇼! One of LFC’s all time greats
@@adamskistotty should have been played in a three with Lineker & Beardsley instead of pinned to the left, easy to double up on and had marauding Psycho killing his space. Like So many England players, never brought IT.Shame as he was as good as anyone in his time.
He was absolutely brilliant yesterday, I listened to it all and it was brilliant, a funny, charming, great story teller, humble and honest. Was fantastic his story about how he got to be a professional footballer was just crazy. Please please get him on the show again with Goldstein and Cundy as it was absolutely gold.
Barnes is such a great speaker and has excellent perspective. The fact that he rates Maradona as the greatest carries some weight vs many other non- players or players who've not reached the level that Barnes was. John was a world class player also.
Talk sport well done for finally having a knowledgeable and well spoken ex footballer who is not making statements for hits! Sign him on a contract put him on the Simon Jordan show
Late 80s Barmes was at his best Unfortunately suffered because of Europe banning English teams from playing. Surely would have been a Ballon dor winner with the level he was playing at
Always painful hearing about 89 🤣 the fact that taking it into the corner didn't enter Barnes mind shows how attacking minded that brilliant Liverpool team was
Johnny b. What a legend. I have had the pleasure of his company at a dinner in Durban South Africa with some Liverpool old boys. It was absolutely brilliant. All to raise money for a charity. What a great bunch of lads and money well spent.
Barnes was a better dribbler and more skillfull player than Cristiano hands down. Kids who haven't watched him play willl think what am I on about, but Barnes was totally more naturally gifted
I remember it will, john barnes ran into the flanks, gave the ball away to lukic, who threw it out to dixon, who kicked it to alan smith, whi passed it to michael thomas, and bang goal What john barnes is speaking about is his run cost liverpool, as they were losing 1-0, and if it stayed like that they would be champions, but arsenal got that goal as he gave ball away, and went 2-0 and arsenal were champions lol I stopped watching arsenal in 2002, but 16 years i watched arsenal we won 4 leagues First game i watched arsenal as a kid, was liverpool were playing arsenal in 1987 littlewoods cup final. For people that do not know liverpool just won everything back then There striker ian rush had a record, that if he scored liverpool did not lose Guess what my first game as kid watching arsenal that day, arsenal beat liverpool after ian rush scored, and it was first time liverpool lost a game where ian rush scored. It was some crazy record they had and i love that this was my first arsenal game as a kid. Liverpool had this mad record that ifd ian rush scored, liverpool back then did not lose. It was some crazy record lol, that it ended first time i watched arsenal in 1987, as we beat liverpool after ian rush scored a great goal for liverpool, and it was first time liverpool lost a game when ian rush scored In those years arsenal brought down liverpool, and liverpool went from winning all the time to not winning league for 3 decades Alex ferguson never beat liverpoolk with john barnes in those years It was arsenal in those years First time liverpool ever had dark clouds over it, was 1989 may, when we did that famous night, what john barnes speaks about here, and makes me laugh he did that. John barnes played football for sudbury, just down the road from where i grew up in london lol How things work out. John barnes was a bloody good player Shame his liverpool team never got to play acmilan, as liverpool were banned from europe back then.
Never blame others for your mistakes that contributed to a goal. Terry Fenwick should have cleared it and not kicked it up in the air backwards towards his own goal. Shilton, who could use his hands, was then out jumped by Maradona who is much smaller. If you look at the stills, Shilton doesn't even jump off the ground.
Looking back, Wimbledon beating Liverpool was similar in some ways to Coventry beating Tottenham which only happened the previous year. Okay, Wimbledon were bigger underdogs than Coventry, but as Barnesy says they did have decent players.
@@cppcpp1158 They were amazing that season. Spurs were terrific, too, the previous year, though not quite as consistent in the league, sadly. Where Liverpool had Barnes & Beardsley Spurs had Hoddle & Waddle.
Go back and you'll find players did what Pele did before him. There are great players before then who don't get recognition because of the lack of any visual reference. Players like Andrade, Pedernera etc, etc.
@@user-gc8pc3ol6l But were not as great as pele, where they?? Did they win WCups, club tittles or any other tittles ? Until then they are just an imagination with no proof.
@@bepsolofootball in a world scale begins in the 1910's 2 decades later is the first WC many legends never played it then after 1938 two world cups were cancelled 1942 and 1946 other great legends missed their ship there (charro moreno or pedernera) and imagine the soldiers of the countrys in war that would have been football legends sad times
messi is the number 1,without doubt. but MARADONA was the best, bacause he came from the poverty. and MARADONA helped his comrades on the pitch everywhere. MARADONA made NAPOLI!!!
Sorry. But shilton should've dealt with maradona for the first goal...and secondly?...why was'nt barnes playing from the start?...we deserve everything we get
The worst thing that gets overlooked about that obvious handball is the clueless linesman who was right across from it. He was from some football minnow country and shouldn’t have been anywhere near that match and he froze/choked in the moment.
Andy Goldstein is a complete clown asking a Genius like John Barnes the questions about all the negative stuff in his career, never kicked a ball,he wouldn't have asked any White Man United players those questions
@@nqobilengema2165 Smoothbrain children with HGH deficiency are given the drug so they can attain their normal height. It hardly affects the talent of Messi.
I can't believe John Barnes got bullied into saying Maradona and Messi are ahead of Pele. Someone who wins World Cups by scoring with a hand and pumping themselves with drugs???Gimme a break...
@@cppcpp1158 Yeah, yeah, yeah for some of you to win you have to cheat or lie. Keep coping. We know how that works. Nobody will EVER be better than Pele. I suspect you already that.
@@bekisiphotshili2566 your brain is a bit smooth so I will try to help you. John Barnes was asked a question, he gave an answer based on his OWN opinion/experience/perspective, not yours or anyone else for that matter.. Hope that helps
@@TribalScan. No. John was bullied to agree with Jason Cundy. He had just finished saying they should be called "best in their eras". He even brought up Stanley Matthews whom he never saw play and wondered why we would be calling anyone the best ever when there are people that played that we, the living today, never saw play. So, pal, yeah, may be smooth but yours is full of hydrogen sulfide---component of a fart. Just in case you can't catch on.
Maradona was an all time great, but never a goat for me. Please, guys. How can we celebrate a man for scoring with his hand, tarnished the sport with cocaine, and abuse his status as a star. My goat are Pele, Zidane, Messi, CR7, Cruff, Weah, Maldini's of the world. They can't be a single goat in football, but there are Goats and all timers.Sorry Mr. BARNES😢
"naturally"..."CR7 had to work harder"..what does that even mean in a GOAT debate? Tom Brady does not even have half of the talent of Aaron Rodgers, but he is the GOAT no debate. "Most Naturally gifted" is not the reason players like MJ23 are the GOAT. It is about the performance in the most pressurized situation and the ability to win everywhere they go with different teams. CR7 has dominated 3 leagues and Messi struggled as soon as he left Barca. Then you look at the UCL as the hardest competition, it is CR7 again. I never understood all the hype after WC like Argentina is not one of the greatest nation of football with or without Messi. Now had Messi been Australian and carried that team to victory then the discussion would have been different. Does that mean Haaland could never be considered the GOAT as he may never participate in the WC?
