They are playing for Sir Sean Connery, the best and first 007. I just had to rent the DVD from the library to watch Goldfinger again - saw more this time than when I was a young man first viewing with my parents. Rest in Peace, Mr. Connery. Brings tears...
"GOLDFINGER - He's a Man", etc...ALWAYS loved Shirley Bassey's version of that great song! WE need more fabulous singers and great songs like that one today, lol
I always, since my parents first let me go see "Goldfinger" as a boy of no more than 12 years old, loved the themes to Sean Connery's Bond Movies (among other exciting aspects like the beautiful women!) Major Props
The first part of the music is simply called "Little Nellie". It's the music played during the little autogyros fight with the larger helicopters. The piece can be found on the James Bond soundtrack'. An alternative version was played during a boat chase in, 'Moonraker'.
God this music is so iconic!!!! God bless you John Barry Prendergast and all the magnificent music you composed that movie and James Bond fans will still be marveling at and enjoying 1000 years from now!
*007* theme: *From Russia with Love* - played during the gypsy camp gunfight and also during Bond's theft of the Lektor decoder from the Russian embassy in Istanbul. *Thunderball* - played briefly in a climactic underwater fight; a similar but different theme of seven beats is played when Bond runs from SPECTRE during a parade and during the climax. *You Only Live Twice* - played during the flight of "Little Nellie" before Bond battles four helicopters that attack him. *Diamonds Are Forever* - played during Bond's destruction of Blofeld's Headquarters. *Moonraker* - played during the Amazon River chase.
@Stenman99. The first half of Marvin Hamlisch's score for "The Spy Who Loved Me"(1977) is outstanding, but the second half is unfortunately totally forgettable! Hamlisch was halfway to a masterpiece Bond music score with that film, but then as the old expression goes, "the wheels fell off" and the second half of the music score is totally unremarkable! But the first half ("Nobody Does It Better" - Main Title Song, "Bond '77", "Ride To Atlantis", "Mojave Club" and "Nobody Does It Better (Instrumental)" are absolutely superb!
Wow! I had no idea Richard Nixon conducted an orchestra. Seriously though, to me, the Bond movie of all time is Goldfinger in no part because of the music. A nice mix between being dramatic and so lush. Well done!
excelent performance, the name of this piece is TAKE LEKTOR, from the film from Russia with love, when Bond take the lektor machine in the Soviet ambassy in Istambul
The first theme is called '007', composed by John Barry for 'From Russia With Love' and used again in four later Bond films. It is NOT 'The James Bond Theme' part of which was composed by Monty Norman and used in every Bond film. A good performance of two classic Bond themes.
@lewiG100 The first song was in a few Sean Connery films. I think it was first played in From Russia With Love, it played when he stole the Lector machine and when he was fighting in the gypsy camp I think!
My CD calls the first piece simply "007", which sounds great for commando raids on the villains lair. "007" should not to be confused with "The James Bond Theme" a.k.a. "Bees Knees" credited to Monty Norman. (I refuse to get into that debate here. We all know who wrote it.) The second is "Goldfinger". Great stuff.
The opening theme is a general rendition of "007" and NOT the James Bond Theme as suggested by others. 007 first appeared in From Russia With Love (1963) and was composed by John Barry. Several versions of "007" appeared in the movie, perhaps the most memorable of which was "007 Takes the Lektor." The second segment is, of course, a rendition of the main theme to Goldfinger. None of the music played here is by Monty Norman. Norman is credited with composing The James Bond Theme for 1962's Dr. No - although there are many people who dispute this. The guy conducting this orchestra (BBC Proms Orchestra) is most definitely not John Barry.
