This video contains patterns from the Mini Monster Book Of Rock Drumming. They are in the style of Bonham. I also talk about my trip to Indianapolis for the Vic Firth Private Drum Teacher Convention with special guest Stanton Moore. I hope this video is informative and entertaining. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

Joe, you really have a knack for understanding what beginners need. Camera positioning is excellent. Can see everything to pick up on all that you are doing... to include how your hands are gripping the sticks (not too tight) and how your wrists are relaxed and breaking as you play the notes. It may seem rather silly to require that much information but if you start knowing what the proper technique looks like, you won't reinforce bad habits such as trying to play with a tight grip and stiff wrists, using your whole arm. It also really helps that you play slow enough that a beginner can see, hear, and follow along. Having the score juxtaposed in the video also is very helpful and not a lot of people do that...

Uh that at a million other things that he alone did that people today are still trying to replicate. Like his bass pedal foot. Or his triplet fills just for a few examples. This snare accents was really the least of it. Look at fool in the rain's sheet music.

@beatsundreime I love my 2002's I think they are one of the best cymbals on the market today. I've never cracked a cymbal in the 30 years I've been playing. Just when you hit cymbals, just make sure you hit them from side to side instead of straight on. Hope that helps. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

G'Day Joe Drums. Absolutely love your Bonham abilities and that great kick drum foot of yours. May I ask if the drumming patterns you have presented are available to mere mortals like myself. I would love to have these to practice as I do not read per se but I feel that these small bits of music would greatly help me to learn to read something I really really love. Look forward to more great stuff. Kev (Australia)

Hey Thanks Kevin, the beats that are Bonham like are from a book called, "THE MINI MONSTER BOOK OF ROCK DRUMMING". By: Joel Rothman. It's under $20 USD. The new version of the book comes with much much more. It's basically a BIBLE of ROCK DRUMMING. Everything you want to know is in there about beats, fills and interesting patterns. Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112. PS I have more videos on another website called, www.VIMEO.com under the name JOEDRUMS. I have actual songs I play, hope you enjoy that as well. : )

Hi Joe: You are so awesome. I'm a beginner and would like to know which pattern is most like Fool in the Rain. I'm assuming it's one of the first 3 patterns but there are no ghost notes. Can you help make it easier for me? Would you have a vid you email me? Just thought I'd ask. Keep doing what you do so great. God bless! - Mike

I can't read music, well somewhat, lol, but I played Zeppelin the most, Bonham was my #1 drum influence, so his style is just natural to me. Once you learn 'when the levee breaks' properly you can go anywhere.. Lol, I learned Moby Dick by 13, but I bet I'll play it a hundred times better right now, lol...

Yes as far as I know John Bonham always used a SPEED KING Pedal for all his kits. I have heard about the Ghost Pedal, he may have tried it but I don't think he ever used it as his main pedal. Thank for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

Yes Bonham was known for his triplets with his foot, but he played triplets with with both hands and foot too. Hey thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' Check this link out at about 2:20. You can see for yourself. This video is just a basic learn how to that gets you started to playing triplets. Bonham took it way farther than that. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cRuTcnd8YLU.html

I know I will get flak for this, but I don't find Bonham to be more than a very good drummer. Most of these beats any good drummer could do. I think Keith Moon, Neil Pert, Carl Palmer, Ginger Baker, Cozy Powell,and gobs of jazz drummers, are far superior, and I say that as a Zeppelin lover
@JOEDRUMS2112
@JOEDRUMS2112 4 года назад
I understand what you're saying, but if you compare other pro drummers to Bonham, John Henry Bonham will never compare to them because he was doing stuff on one bass drum other drummer could never dream of playing what he did back in the early - mid 60's. He was a pioneer on the skins. Now everyone plays like him. It's so hard to be original these days. All of the drummers you mentioned were double bass players, but Bonham made it sound like their were two bass drums. His powerful style the way he played patterns and fills were amazing. His drum solos would a lot of times go over 10 min. or more. Think of any of the drummers that you mentioned in Zeppelin, they would have played a whole different way and style then the way Bonham did. Just as Bonham in any other band it would have been different as well. Every pro drummer has their own individual sound. Thank God for that because if everyone played the same, did the same fills, played the same beats, the drum world would've been a really boring place to be. Thanks for watching. I hope you're a subscriber, if not please do. KEEP ROCKIN' JOEDRUMS2112

JOEDRUMS2112 : you make a point. Interestingly, in the movie"Beware of Mr Baker", the ever-asshole Ginger was asked his opinion of other drummers, and he put down Buddy Rich, saying "no foot", when they didn't use double bass in those days. Ginger, as great as he was, couldn't carry Buddy's drumsticks.
@JOEDRUMS2112
@JOEDRUMS2112 4 года назад
@@dkelban LOL Yea he was a character as well. Very arrogant and full of himself that's why he was kicked out of every country he lived in, but Buddy Rich was no slouch at being arrogant as well. He said that todays Rock Drummers are all the same they can't play but only one way, and the way they hold the sticks matched grip is wrong, they need to play traditional. All the pro drummers that have made it big are all great in my book. Everyone else is a carbon copy until somebody does something that stands out and gets noticed. Will it happen? Maybe one day. I can't wait till that day, it's going to be good. LOL : ) JOEDRUMS2112
