I don't disagree with anything this guy said about John Brown, or the history therein. But when he said something to the tune of "a question like this should never be left to the people." That's scared me. To say something like that is to not believe in the very foundation of our country. Which is, the idea that the people can sufficiently and efficiently govern themselves. He also contradicts himself by quoting: "Is it not possible that one man be right, and a government be wrong?" Is it then also not possible that the PEOPLE be right, and the government be wrong? Government, had YEARS to sort out slavery, and they never did. What did that lead to? The bloodiest war in American history. No question, should be left to the government. It is not their job to say what the people can and cannot decide for themselves. Government is there to administrate and enforce the choices by the people. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

He may have said it for dramatic theatrical effect, but threatening by his own admission to fire one of his park rangers for publicly stating a personal opinion about John Brown implies a disrespect for the First Amendment that I found quite shocking. Had he explained that stating one's personal opinion about John Brown in the conduct of an historical lecture to the public on National Park grounds would constitute a violation of official local park policy and known conditions of employment well understood and agreed to by the employee, I would have found it more acceptable. Upon his reflection, the speaker might find a better way to underscore his point about the enduring controversy over Brown's behavior as a personal matter for all Americans without insulting a ranger's rights guaranteed by the First Amendment to the US Constitution. Having made that observation, I want to say that I found this lecture riveting and skillfully presented in a very dramatic and entertaining manner. I have been to Harper's Ferry four times and found it to be a fascinating place. Black slavery is a watershed issue in American history. Brown's raid undoubtedly served to more sharply divide Americans politically, and unquestionably was a very consequential event in the progression to the Civil War which tragically claimed about 650,000 American lives in resolving the issue of slavery in our country.

Everyone has their own constitutional interpretation.

@@kevinleecaster2698 That's irrelevant to what I wrote. Every American has a well established right to their own opinion about the the US Constitution or any other matter, but the Constitution's effect on any issue of law is solely the Federal judiciary's interpretation alone. When there is a dispute about the application of the Constitution to the law, the United States Supreme Court is the ultimate arbiter of its proper and binding effect, not our own interpretation.

The wisest American about that time (in 1859) Abraham Lincoln in Kasas said about the Raid of Harper's Ferry something this= That was an action doomed from the start! John Brown's plan with a gerrilla warfare with fugative slavery people was a bad idea and the slaves would not have followed John Brown in masses. Lincoln added something this= The slavery system was big trouble that time, but that personal action was not a sure solution. He (Lincoln) did not have idea for a sure solution. (I think Lincoln was a centist in the Republican party and he thought first to avoided to spread the slavery system into the future Western States. After 25-30 years the Slavery system areas became less and less in the USA and 1-1 state became free as Delaware in the future.....) He remaked about John Brown something this = John Brown received the death sentence with his head held high and the Virginian governor mentioned that in respect. Lincoln speech was exact true and well spoken, because John Brown had big role in the Bleeding Kansas event (Lincoln was in Kasas) where the slavery system lost in the second time. The first defeat of the slavery system was that the California became free state and the following 1850 big comromise. Could Tennessee and Arkansas remain in the union Without John Brown"s raid? The first vote in Tennessee was prounionist success in winter of 1861 only the second vote was proconfederate majority in summer of 1861. If Tennessee had remained in the Union the Civil War could have ended in the summer of 1861 and the original Republican program (centrum's program)could have won so the slavery system could have remained where was before 1860 maximum New Mexico and Arizona would have been free of slavery system as punishment of the South.

Racism is the personification of the words race black and white language that has been institutionalised Where the word race is not a competition, but a group of people used as the Paradigm for our government and education institutions, not nationality and tribe which is what we have here in the United States a nation of nationalities and tribes and in dividing our citizens using white and black any descendent of European ancestry is the Personification of the so-called white (Superior) American psychologically and any American with African ancestry the personification of the so-called Black(Inferior) American psychologically two words having nothing to do with physical characteristics and everything to do with the psychological impact these words have on the mind of human beings. an economic tool used to control The basic needs food clothing and shelter as American European businessmen commodity. And now the American economies, cash flow

Brown was a modern day democrat. He couldn't see the trees for the forrest....🫤

If you say that he was equivalent to a Modern Day Democrat, it is a great praise to today's Democratic Party. He saw the big picture and small and thought it unacceptable. The institution of slavery is not only a moral evil but also one that chained the nation to King Cotton. It made the nations that already abolished slavery more unfavorable to the Union. To deny the deleterious effects of slavery to the nation's morality but also to nation's pragmatic situation is to be blind to one’s own history. To borrow your metaphor, you're not only missing the forrest for the trees, you are blind both to the trees and the woodlands and should be prohibited from carrying that tongue you call an axe.
