that's why i wrote that Brenzk was the best ever!Alexey was monster but for a short time!If he continued training in armwrestling,he could be legend, like Brenzk!
GOOD GOD.....there is NO DOUBT now...this MAN Voevoda has the pure MUSCLE POWER of a GOD! WOW....what STRENGTH! He just muscled the one and only Brzenk DOWN in ONE SMOOTH SLAM! WOW!
Voevoda is a beast. It's been a long time since I've even though about arm wrestling so it was cool to see some names I do remember and to see who the new champ is.
Alexey is extremely strong..John has a brilliant technique and very clever one, but he was respectfully defeated by a real strength and John new it in his smile)))
Brzenk is one of the few this year that actually coutered Alexey's first pull. I guess they say he was not quite at full strength due to an injury but I would have loved to see these guys compete over the years. Too bad Alexey got out of the sport. John has amazing staying power over the decades. Even a year later John is so much bigger and stronger in 2005 I would have loved to have seen a rematch then. Both are quality individuals by far!!!
Well actually Voevoda it's a real athlete ... Great skills , great dedication and a great man . In face of Brzenk ... i think Voevoda have beast adrenaline , and he get powerfull strenght . I saw some trainings with Voevoda pfff this man have horse power , no words . Respect !!!
Just the fact that Brzenk, giving up this much weight to a man who has some talent on the table as well, was able to reverse Voevoda in the first pull says A LOT about Brzenk. Some people seem to overlook that
I have great respect and admiration for John Brzenk, and I can't imagine that anyone would ever say anything negative about him. I must admit, though, that my favorite armwrestler of all times in Alexey Voevoda. I am certain that Alexey and John are both good friends and that they genuinely admire each other. I just can't find enough good things to say about both of these men, but my special admiration is for Alexey.
@A550RGY No problem. Yeah, it's a pretty good documentary. I hope they come out with more. Alexey should be making a comeback in arm wrestling some time soon. Will be lookin' forward to it. Hope you get a chance to watch the DVD.
@A550RGY He was undefeated until Voevoda came along. The movie shows how Voevoda was training for Brzenk. I suppose they wanted it to remain a mystery for the DVD.
When the straps are applied it limits your hand functionality ..power plays a significant role. Brzenk still managed to turn his wrist in the straps and hook Voevoda, Voevoda even then didnt have full control of Brzenk's hand Because Brzenk as i said got his hook in .But because of Voevoda's power he still pinned him it's incredible to pin John even when he's got someone in a hook, Johns hooks are solid not many can overcome them, John was lighter here but it takes nothing away from the win
1) Funny is that most people here have no clue about the armwrestling rules it seems. This was the ´Supermatch´. Brzenk won his weightclass and Voevoda won his weightclass. These matches are more like a bonus, and Brzenk became a legend because he didnt only won his weightclass but also most of these Supermatches. So yes, *of course* Voevoda was much heavier and (in theory) much stronger. 2) Watch Brzenks final match in his class (vs Ivakin) and you will understand why he got injured that fight. 3) Seriously, this is the weakest Brzenk ive seen in years. Watch him in 2008, soooo much stronger compared to this fight. Im 100% sure a 2008 Brzenk would have beaten Voevoda. Sadly he didnt got a second chance. But yeah, this fight Voevoda was the better man so gratz to him. Which doesnt mean he was the best armwrestler of all time. Others beat Brzenk before, only to lose 6 times in a row after .....
aureo Voevoda Brzenk only defeted the right arm of Cyplenkov back then. But since 2008, Cyplenkov improved his right arm very much. In 2013, Cyplenkov easily defeated Pushkar and Liliev on the right arm. If Brzenk/Larratt in his prime were to face a 2013 Cyplenkov he would lose on any hand, whether right or left.
imnecessaryevil thats right brzenk only beat cyplenkovs right arm tahts tru.. i am looking forward to se voevoda against cyplenkov in the up coming years! :D
Brzenk is one of the greats! Voevoda was on another level. John, I think was the "peoples" choice. Voevoda the critic´s choice. Voevoda was superior by strengtht and with armlenght.
Good respect shown by both John was always known to be a class act...Voevoda seems to be the same very humble...he just beat the best in the business very convincingly yet no arrogant expressions not even a smile ...he has a lot of respect for Brzenk
Does anybody know if Magnus Samuelsson still armwrestles? And also cause I don't know anything, did Alexey participate in the 2008 armwrestling competition??
@A550RGY You're welcome. In the DVD they briefly cover his lifts. They do not show him lifting 250 lbs with one hand. The only things that come to mind are the one handed chin up partials, shoulder work with dumbbells, his arm wrestling training at the table with several people pulling on his hand with straps, & he does manage to press 926 lbs on the leg press with his arms. The closest thing I've seen is a picture.
@tolaros2 ...That is true Voevoda has a side hook which is different to a straight up hook .Voevoda also has incredible side pressure which he applies..that's how he destroyed everyone in this event. Brzenk was the only one who seemed to have some answer before the straps were put on. I would like to see Brzenk at 230lbs against Voevoda
After this Voevoda said that first try technique of Brzenk he was unfamiliar with. This technique had a flaw that let him escape. In second try he (Voevoda) made it the way that Brzenk couldn't wrest on fingers (which was 1st try technique of Brzenk) and Voevoda won relatively easy, which made him dissapointed. End of the story.
@Mcais2Fresh No this match was in 2004, Voevoda has armwrestled in many tournaments after that until 2007 when he devoted himself completely to bobsled or (bobsleigh) and has won numerous medals in that sport.
John breznk was the wolrds best for 25 Years. He is getting old now and he is in the weight below travis and voevoda yet he still got in the final. nuff said
One match victory does not a GOAT make! Legends are those that have stood the test of time. Championships should be at least best of 3 to give pullers the opportunity to adjust to opponents style and technique. Voevoda was best on this day, would love to see more between these 2.
Brzenk is 40yrs old here!!! And still won his weight class...was defeated by a heavier man that is in his prime. Brzenk in his Prime is unbeatable. Even Muhammad Ali was beaten by lesser opponents in the latter part of his career. If you were to ask Voevoda who the best Armwrestler of ALL-TIME was he and EVERYONE else would say it were BRZENK!!
in a broadcast on discovery, he said he was injured against an opponent just before but it's still the best for me Voevoda is successor Brzenk ....and he it gets old
@tolaros2 ..That was deliberate plan by Brzenk ..it's actually a common tactic used but very few can pull it off . Brzenk peeled Voevoda's fingers didnt give Voevoda his whole hand on purpose and flapped his wrist.
@Johnnyblazedanketch He's not Canadian. He was born in Elgin Illinois according to the documentary Pulling John and is a US citizen currently residing in Utah.
I barely ever see John lose. And if he loses, it's never under normal circumstances. I mean, shit, the guy beat Deve Clean for christ sake. He makes even the biggest fucking musclebombs with 22 inch guns, look like shitsacks. He's incredible beyond belief. That's just how it is.
that's pretty much it, there are a few things you have to learn though, mainly a good hook or toproll. then it comes down to training and pulling with training partners. that's how you learn to do new things. you need both. but the sport comes down to brute strength. some people have a very powerful toproll but not the best hook strength.
I'm from the USA and I love russians. they're just awesome people. tough on the outside but really good hearted on the inside. I always make them smile for some reason they don't like to smile. russians are strong. there was 2 russians in my high school. I was armwrestling champion. there was a big russian and a small one. I lost to the big russian and beat the small one. I think it was because I couldn't let that puny guy beat me. the small russian was stronger than the big russian so it was mostly just my mind messing with me. Everytime the big guy armwrestler the small guy, he'd always lose. this teaches me that you shouldn't be psyched out about someone and believe in yourself. hell those 2 were almost as strong as I am. I armwrestler the big guy a week later after hearing from people that he wasn't that strong since he lost to the small one many times before. I won the rematch 3 to 0. I can't believe it myself! just by knowing he was weaker than me, I won. it's a psychological mind game. if I would have known the smaller one was stronger. I would have won in the first place. well I don't make that mistake anymore. nobody can psych me out in anything. I'm the best fighter in the world, not the best armwrestler so I'm confident no matter who I fight against, I'd win. even if it. was bruce lee brought back.
about bruce lee here bruceleeowns.blogspot.co.uk unless u faster then camera can see u are 0 match for bruce lee if he were alive. If you claim to be strong arm wrestler go up agianst the pros then instead of talking bull. Bruce lee did 50 one arm push ups hang above and pull up whole body weight without gettiing tired aswell as 1 finger pushes and kicked 300 punch bags with metal in them apart aswell never lost a street fight in real life aswell always ended all fights in less then 2 minutes even with people with knives in both hands several at the time. You are nothing compared and should not be disrespecting Bruce Lee or any armwrestler instead of talking bull prove yourself by taking action against the best fighters and armwrestlers of today Iknow u will lose. I know your type of people braggng alot of empty words withour merits. Nothing wrong to believe in yourself but never but down people who archived something big in their lives show the respect and humble attitude instead. Personally do not talk or bragg like u but if you meet me or anyone else we would teah u a lesson for not giving Bruce Lee and the pro in armwrestling and maybe other the respect they deserv for their accomplishments. Of all the 100sa of tuff street fighters and gangs that challenged bruce lee in real life much tuffer then you with guns and knives bruce lee beat them all up under 2 min its whats said by eyewitnesses. Bruce Lee would have destroyed u with a doubt as u a a talked and someone who looks down on all and puts yourself above Bruce Lee and all arm wrestlers and those people who accomplished big things in this life you should be ashamed of your self unless u do better and regret u will come to a very dark place for eternity. Stop beeing a lowlife bully and do better man. Treat others with respect and you get it back underestimate others and they will underestimate you and not take you serious. Treat others as you want others treat you and you will work togheter with people a lot better overall, just a piece of advice man.
Engin Terzi has his own opinion!I had my own! There are many who support that Voevoda was the strongest right-hand armwrestler! One of them it's me!I write again, tha Brenzk is the legend of this sport, but the strongest ever for me (until now),it's Voevoda!
I'm watching the match more closely, and before the slip, John was able to move Voeveda back toward him. This means that if John wasn't injured, and they arm wrestled more times, John would have a serious chance of winning the majority of them. I wish Voeveda would have stayed in the game longer to see the results. Just didn't happen.
He now focuses on olympic judo and bobsledding. Yes he has been beaten before by Bagent right and left handed. I am not sure who else. I know Brenzk had a pretty serious injury coming into this. I would like to see a rematch when they are both healthy.
John pulled lots of monsters that day. Specially if he wanted to make to the great match he had to pull his division and the one above.Everybody knows when he got to Voevoda he was no even with 70% what he could show. That's the only mistake 'hidden" on that documentary Pulling John. They didn't mention how "hard" was for him to get there. I love Voevoda. He's strong as a bear, simple and humble man....but ...I wanted to see a FAIR match. Don't you?
@matiseq ...Brzenk holds Voevoda in very high regard recently he was enquiring about Voevoda to know if he is coming back to armwrestling, Voevoda too has a lot of respect for Brzenk. They are alike in attitude they do the job and thats it ...no ill talk or malicious gossip or behaviour towards others. No big talk nothing. Supremely confident in their abilities how a true sportsman should be.
brzenk is a legend because he dominated armwrestling 25 years no one can take that from him but when it comes down to beating alexey , john doesn't stand a chance
