Saw him about a year and half ago doing a show in Vancouver (this was at the tail end of covid, so security was VERY tight around this ole guy). I had VIP "meet and greet" tix for which I dressed up as the dead blue parrot. The shows managers implicitly stated, we could greet him, but absolutely NO contact, stay a safe distance away and under no circumstances were there to be any autographs. I made sure I was at the end of the line, so I would at least get a few more words with him. He saw me coming, bursted out laughing, took some selfies with me and autographed my parrot costume. He was so incredibly generous with his time and was truly so genuine. A memory to last a life time. Thanks for this, brought back some great memories. Such a treasure.

@@williamoverton7775 that makes sense. People often ask me about my 96 yr old grandmother and her longevity secrets. Well, as far as I can remember, she’s always been really happy and laughs a lot. She doesn’t need a lot of greens or salads, she was never on any diet, she will eat donuts and McDonald’s. Has a glass of wine with dinner every single night still gets almost every Jeopardy, and does the New York Times crossword puzzle… Even the Sunday hard one! so I would have to say that the secret to her longevity was social connection and laughing a lot. John Cleese at 84 has now become a world treasure. Not just a Great Britain genius and comedian, but a precious talent for the whole world. I live in Queensland Australia and my Grandfathers twin sister went to 107 years old. My blessing to John is that he should live much longer, even to an age way over 100. We need him, and his world 🌍 influence. Her blessing at 107 was to tell all who would listen, was to stay in loving mode, and care, and interest in everyone around them. Bless you John in ways even you may not have experienced yet. God Bless

It's not like he wrote it per se, but he updated his old bits on the show. "Maher reviewed more than a decade of his editorials, rewriting, reimagining, and updating them, and adding new material to speak exactly to the moment we’re in. Free speech, cops, drugs, race, religion, the generations, cancel culture, the parties, the media, show biz, romance, health-Maher covers it all. The result is a hugely entertaining work of commentary about American culture in the tradition of Mark Twain, Will Rogers, and H. L. Mencken."

'Right!! I have laid it on the line for you time and time again, now I'm going to give you a damn good thrashing!' Camera sits on the empty car for a few seconds, everyone wondering what's going to happen. The eruption of laughter when he runs back with that tree branch is one of the most iconic scenes in comedy history. I can still hear dad saying the dialogue along with Basil then roaring with laughter. That and the fire drill scene are just a joy. I had a pain in my back from laughing as a kid when Basil is losing his mind with the guests who are insisting that the alarm sounds are all the same. The phone rings, and he roars something incoherent into it, literally hopping with rage, and slams it down. 😂

I remember seeing The Life and Brian. As I was sitting in the movie theater laughing so hard that tears are coming out of eyes, I noticed that some people were actually walking out of the movie because (I guess) they were offended. That only made the movie funnier to me. BTW, I was all of 20 years old. What did I get that they didn't get? John Cleese and Monty Python are by far, the funniest.

John is 100% correct, in the sense that none of us really "choose" our romantic partners; it's largely a subconscious process, driven overwhelmingly by early familial experiences and how they impacted us. Kind of fre@ky, right? But so important to know.

Seeing John Cleese brings back great memories of Monty Python and George Harrison's Monty Python's Life of Brian. Such an amazing classic. HandMade Films was formed by former Beatle George Harrison and business partner Denis O'Brien in 1978 to finance this controversial film Life of Brian. Harrison had been introduced to O'Brien by actor Peter Sellers in 1973. Soon afterward the two went into business together. Great to hear John Cleese and his WISDOM yet I didnt recognize him without his mustache and so overweight. I hope he gets healier and lives a long life. Great personality and sense of humor. Legend. And Sharp!! ❤

@Regantdarcy I personally thought the first hour and 15 minutes was not very interesting, but the second half was riveting. I enjoy hearing political views and observations from people from across the pond, because many countries seem to be struggling with extremists who have infiltrated society and politics. Many of them seem to be on a mission to wreck things and burn it all to the ground. So much damage can occur in a short period of time while it takes many more years to restore equilibrium and rebuild what was lost in the wake of all the chaos and destruction.

The Dinosaur Hour... I'm on it! Thank you John. As to their protracted discussion about ESP, way to go! I used to visit only once a year a bona-fide clairvoyant who told me about the deepest secrets I had not shared with a living soul, yet she knew them. I recommended to a friend who passed on her details to his brother, and when he returned, he accused me of telling her about him, which I didn't; she was that accurate, telling him about his darkest secrets. Sadly, she died of a cerebral hemorrhage in her mid-40s but prior to this, she told me how spending the time in the company of toxic people left her feeling sick for weeks afterward.

I must say that i found it very interesting to hear when Mr. Cleese mentioned Sarajevo, that is, how he was impressed by the population of Sarajevo, who, despite all the horrors that befell them during the 90s, show an incredible amount of humor and the way they used it as a kind of psycho-autotherapy.. Well, since I also come from those areas, i.e. from neighboring Croatia, which was also in that joint state, called Yugoslavia, I know very well the situation that took place there, as well as I know very well the mentality of us here.. To be more specific, during the 80s, Sarajevo had the most famous satirical-humorous show from our area, better known under the name - "TOP LISTA NADREALISTA"... The idea and concept of the show is definitely in its narrative, i.e., as a guiding thought it had the legendary "Monty Python" guys, that is, all that British humor fit very well in this ours nation from ex YU, or as Sarajevo people would say - "RAJU". 😊 ... Many members of that show, that is, of the whole movement of the 80s, which was affectionately called - NEW PRIMITIVISM, gave birth to many excellent artists, not only in the field of acting, TV series, but also in music, painting, sculpture and other similar creative fields. processes, which are an obvious indicator that art and creativity are created in very difficult and painful life situations, even the worst ones, which is WAR... (Hope It will never happen again... 🙏) ..😉 ....

I suspected he was into Gurdjieff and esoteric traditions, so it was good to hear him talk about it in detail. In the 70s I read the Gurdjieff literature and was drawn to the Gurdjieff expositor J.G. Bennett, and I was fascinated by the idea of hidden Masters of Wisdom. It's fascinating to follow it but I'm not sure how much reality is there.
