John Deere 10X 890 aka. "Copy CAT" Plowing - Caterpillar V12 Engine with 890HP

You have to remember that a lot of that hydraulic rate for running implements take a lot of power... this tractor would probably be excellent for pulling 120, 000lb airdrill and cart setup

You should google the big bud 747 tractor. It has a 1100 hp 16 cylinder engine and handles the power with no problems.

@@calemcdaniel6450 the Big Bud was a purpose built tractor that was specifically designed and built to do the job it was intended for…it had the power train to handle the loads imposed on it…this “John Deere” wasn’t built in a John Deere factory…it was built in some guys garage and is much smaller than the Big Bud being almost 70 ton fully ballasted…this custom tractor is likely half that weight…that Cat engine would tear that tractor apart if you loaded it up to the capabilities of what it can handle!

I agree, axles, trans, and rims/tires wouldnt be able to handle the actual hp of a 3412. Lowest rated one I've seen is 525hp, but I know from experience in construction tractor/scraper applications that companys to this day have yet to completely get around the rim slip, and modern 600hp tractors are still having trans reliability issues. Clamp on hubs also slip on axle shafts at high load and hp applications.

The axles and planetaries would never stand up to that kind of power when loading. And it is way too light.

Did that have the V8 engine in it? How did you keep it together at that power? I guess IH puts some quality components in their tractors if it could take that kind of power and survive for more than a season. Not that surprised about it burning up clutches. Love hearing about people hot--rodding their tractors. My dad and I built a 4x4 tractor out of an FWD truck.

I would think traction might be an issue with this tractor as the Big Bud is what 75-80k lbs without ballast and I'm sure the Schluter is probably 50k lbs whereas this one is 35k lbs without ballast.

J.D.(originally) pioneered the Hydro-Static drive, or L.S.T. as some call it ; back in the late 50's....with 'shift on the fly' & no need for a conventional clutch, J.D. truly was the 'Cadillac' ahead of it's time....

​@@DavidKalnbach-vm3xc Wrong wrong wrong buddy ,IHC pioneered hydrostatic transmissions in farm tractors and combines and were the first to market .Anyway this JD tractor probably has a full Powershift or partial Powershift transmission and both are totally different to hydro transmissions . Get educated matey boy .Oh and JD just copy off of everybody.

That's the purpose of the 600 hp. Coupling. It breaks before the machine breaks

I was just thinking that very same thing.....JD is notorious for going cheap in that area

My bet it was a 8960 with the john deere v-8 originally.

That's more a credit to cat than a knock to deere

The larger jds like the 9 series came with cummins from factory for a few years so yeah cat is questionable 👍

A C27 CAT is rated at 815 HP factory tune… so yeah 890 HP is absolutely what it has.

We have some soil in Iowa, gumbo, that will test how much power it has.
