I have a 1969 2520 diesel synchro. It does all kinds of work around here. My favorite job for it is cutting hay with a 9 foot haybine.

Finally a video (anywhere) about a tractor I've actually used. My dad was in the dairy business with my grandpa and uncle (his inlaws). In HS and summers during college i got more than a few hours pulling a 336 baler w/ kicker using a 2520 gas, sometimes with the 48 loader still attached. Initially, i wasn't used to sitting up so high, since i learned to drive on a '77 2440 and a '81 2640. But I always thought New Generation tractors were cool. We had a second 2520 w/ narrow front for planting.

@LocustMotorWorks corn: 4 rows on 38", model 7200, before that not sure but it was JD and had the old metal seed boxes. Grain: JD grain drill with a yellow lid, early 80s? Not sure of model. I think it was 9' wide?

My father bought a new 2510 gas narrow front in ‘66 and traded it sometime in the ‘80s. He always regretted parting with it so, eventually he bought a ‘71 2520 diesel synchro. I inherited this tractor in ‘96 after my father’s death. I have it to this day and would rather drive it than almost anything they’re building now. It works great with the 148 loader that I put on it and the custom bush hogging I do. It handles and rides phenomenally. My only complaint would be that the naturally aspirated little 219 could use a little more lugging ability.

I have a 1970 2520 diesel . It has the factory wide front and a Cozy cab on it. The tractor is a syncro range. It has 4000 hours on it. These tractors did not fill much of a niche. They were made in the era of the muscle tractor. They were too small to be a big tractor and too big to be a small tractor. This 2520 has been on my farm since bought at a farm sale in 1979 and will remain here with me until I am gone. I will not be parting with it.

We used to have a 2520 and it was a great tractor overall but you would get pushed around upon the hill baling hay with a 337 and kicker wagon. The only reason why was because that day dad was mowing hay with the 4040 and didn't want to get out of the air conditioning in the cab. Great memories for sure.

We still have my cousin's 2510 gas. The engine has been rebuilt, and is an extremely pleasurable and smooth running tractor to use. A few years ago, I removed the points, installed electronic ignition, and put a new wire from the start button to the solenoid. Now, it starts up reliably and easily. It's a great tractor if you don't need to make it snort. We used it a lot with a JD side mount sickle bar, and a JD crimper behind. If I had a disc mower in place of a cutterbar, I'd use that instead of a haybine.

My dad ran a 2510. Gasoline. Two problems he had were the wet cylinder engine's o rings were not engineered right and it leaked coolant into the crankcase, alot. second was the shaft that ran through the bottom of the transmission that was part of the draft control if you put any stress on it at all the seals would go out and drain the hydraulic fluid out. Other 5han those two things ( which I'm sure could have been remedied) it was a good tractor. My dad was proud of it, a big step up from the 600 ford he used before.

When I was a child, A very famous horse farm that was next door to the farm where I lived had a narrow front Roll-A-Matic John Deere 2520 gasoline engine tractor with the “Orchard Exhaust” rather than the standard exhaust that was used for mostly mowing with a C80 Woods mower in the days before the “Batwing” mowers became the normal rage. I can remember that tractor plowing with a John Deere 3 bottom plow for the ground that was to be used for the tobacco crop. The disc harrows were made by John Deere but I can’t remember specifically what size they were because it’s been way too many years ago. Seems like they also used that tractor with a one row tobacco setter before the two row setters were introduced. As I remember, The 2520 was traded for a John Deere 2640 wide front diesel with a loader because they wanted to upgrade from the C80 Woods mower to a Woods Batwing mower that the 2640 would handle much better not to mention all of the advantages of having a loader. This farm also had 2 1020 John Deere gasoline tractors with the John Deere mid mount sickle mowers. These tractors also had the “Orchard Style” exhaust in which all of the tractors were ordered with that type of exhaust because of the many trees. I always liked the 2520 because it always seemed so smooth in the way that it operated. Thanks for your great video and bringing back such great memories for me.

I just bought a 1969 2520 diesel sychro tractor with under 2300 hours on it! Has a loader on it (I think it is not a JD). Bought it to run a 7-foot brush cutter to keep the non-farm parts cleaned up.

My grandfather had a 2520 standard gas with a loader on it. It was his yard/chore tractor. Seemed like it had enough carb trouble through its life but it had good hydraulics and handled a lot of round bales.

Oddly enough, the best selling JD is the 2240, if I remember it correctly. Even with the gazillion A's, 4020's, and 4440's, the little one sold the most. A 48 loader would mount on it, and it had factory MFWD. Might be an idea for a video.
