Alright so I finally finished replacing the brakes, replaced the brakes, retracting springs, and one side actuation plate. Took the pto housing off to clean all the brake material out which worked good. bled the brakes on the rear and clean fluid came out with no more air. But I am getting a noise when i brake like i can hear them engage and they make kinda of grinding noise. any suggestions.
So we have a 6400 JD and we have the same problem any addition tips tricks and advice you would be willing to render in tackling this job. And would it be ok to call on you for advice
@@wilddundee5033 So our brakes went on our tractor. they failed in a manner that did not completely clog the sump screen which prolonged an issue that has now become a headache. The only reason we began investigating was that the tractor would not move forward or reverse in any speed or gear. We had the system pressure tested and its within spec, we were told it could be the Control valve body on the powerquad transmission that they could be stuck or clogged. so i removed a few plugs on the valve body housing and found a buildup of black slug, I let it drain reinstalled the caps and have some movement in forward and reverse, Now I am leaning towards removing the valve control body altogether while the transmission is still in the tracktor do you have any advice or reading material that might aid me in this effort much appreciated.
Well if there's gunk in there it probably needs cleaned. A tiny bit of gunk can cause lots of problems with hydraulic valves. I'd be curious to know what that transmission filter looks like. The sump screen on the bottom of the rear end supplies oil for both the charge pump on the transmission and the main charge pump for the tractor hydraulics. The tractor I was working on had no hydraulics and no transmission because neither could pull any oil through that clogged screen. I may not be much help here cause I don't know what it takes to remove and clean that control valve on the powerquad. The service manual says nothing about the powerquad. The test and diagnostics manual goes into quite a little detail as far as diagnosis, but says very little about actually rebuilding. From looking at the parts catalog, it looks like you could pull most of the spools out of that control housing and at least see if its worth dropping the whole housing out.

@@wilddundee5033 Indeed his channel is very informative. So We changed the trans filter and added new fluid to try and flush it to no avail. So I went ahead and dropped the valve body on the transmission and discovered a lot of gunk in the valve body itself and even more on the upper gasket on the trans side. which most definitely was restricting flow to the valve body. So I cleaned all the valves and the valve body. dose the manual give a torque bolt pattern for the valve body bolt?
