Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

When i was a kid we had a problem with fuel theft, so we hid the fuel tank because it was on a trailer. Then we filled an old standing fuel tank with calcium chloride and wouldn't you know it but we found two guys broke down about 2 mile from the yard cursing up a storm and that wouldn't accept any help from us. ( since they new who they were stealing from i guess)

I'm afraid fuel theft is commonplace here in the UK as are quad and side-by-sides but they have even started stealing heating oil (kerosene) from houses using electric pumps and flexible plastic hose into tanks in the back of vans. Much more serious from an agricultural aspect is the developing theft of GPS globes and monitors or livestock rustling particularly sheep.

We just switched tanks. Diesel went in the gas , gas went in the diesel. We knew and let me tell u a gas engine doesn't make it far when it's trying to ignited diesel. We also put the high way diesel in the off road and about 2 weeks later my boss pulled in and grabbed a big cotton swab and swabbed these two truck that were new in 08 almost brand new and these guys had no off road diesel. He swabbed it and there it was red dye clear as mud. But just switch the tanks when u get them. U have to change the nozzles because diesel nozzle is bigger. Plus what kind of freaken scum bags steals another man's fuel. Should be a Han*ing offense. RU-vid don't ban me for that I'm not wishing anyone harm......

Zach, sell that strip till..you know your ground and weather better than I and if you're plugging anhydrous tubes this year you will plug tubes next year. Nevermind the dry fertilizer issues, just the tool issues alone because of conditions will just never work consistently enough to not cause you frustration every year

The fact that the door latch freed up when you pounded the push button / locl with your leatherman makes me think the mechanism of the button interacting with the actual latch isnt moving freely. Might need to take the latch apart, but I think some PB blaster or i guess in your case wd40 ought to help it. Spray all the latch mechs, and work the button in and out while spraying.

Glad to see you watch Vise Grip Garage too. It's a great channel. Also, I've fixed many of those door latches. Sometimes the adjusting screw gets loose, which a dab of thread locker fixes. I've also seen the little plastic "hook link" cracks and flexes too much to work properly. Good luck.

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting. Well Zach, I thought you were close to being stuck. Would have been humorous asking Jim to come and pull you out. Oh well, it happens. Been there done that. You did a good job getting out of the mud. Love the door handle on the new tractor. Works great. That is the way it goes, always something to fix. Getting equipment ready for winter is always a busy job and takes a while. I see the combines need cleaning yet. That takes a while. Sorry about the kitten. But like you say, that is farm life for you. Thanks for helping the girls. A little surprised you are doing tillage yet. But understand wanting the stocks cut down before planting time. Please say hello to your dad. Sorry we will not see him on video for a while. Dad, you enjoy Arizona time!!!!!!! About it for now. You be safe and take care. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for everything. The Iowa farm boy from years ago.

Louisiana Farmer here… very interesting seeing the different challenges we face, whether it be weather (see what I did there), resources, or any other obstacle presented daily on a farm. Almost more interesting are the similarities every farming operation inevitably encounters, even on opposite ends of the Mississippi River. Awesome content my dude, I can’t even imagine the effort it takes to film a day on the farm. I wish you all the success in the future!

How you had issues with moisture causing the fert to set in the Meters, idk if you're cart is set up this way but it could be worth putting an oil cooler Infront of the fan to heat and dry the air to stop the fert setting. Alot of carts are set up this way in Australia for exactly this reason.

Zach, I really enjoy your channel, the only YT channel I'm subscribed to. I'm not a farmer but have always been intrigued by the farming industry and have always been a little jealous when driving through farm country during harvest or planting season. As a kid, I was active in FFA and took many AG classes in hopes of having a career in agriculture but instead I opted for the power industry. I'm retired now but still have a strong work ethic and hope to possibly work for a farmer here in the south some day. Onyx is becoming quite the hunter, something else I'm passionate about. You are very fortunate to have such a great family around you. Keep up the great informative and entertaining videos and stay safe.

Re: Strip till. I admire the perseverance, still I think to be successful you will have to accomplish two things 1) Alter your weather to get warm dry conditions 2) Change your soil type to sandy loam. I have faith in you and if you can pull this off, you will blow past 1 million subscribers. All kidding aside at some point the desire to succeed needs a reality check from the need to make money.

There are some things that are impossible to do, unfortunately for Zach, what he's trying to do, it's seasonal based and right now, it just isn't the right time even though season wise it is, weather wise, nope. Cheers :)
@adrianklaver113
@adrianklaver113 2 года назад
@@Ham68229 My point being that at his latitude, in his region, the chances that the season and weather will align correctly is slim. It is like the old timers here(Western Washington) talking about the sugar beet crop. Fall weather tended to be like it is currently, windy and wet, so there where more subpar to terrible years then good years to get the beets out of the ground. Eventually they gave up and moved on to other things as the money wasn't there.

We found that you can use that strip tiller but putting your fert on the corn when it needed it gained 100 more Bu/Ac. So the cost of the tool does not pay. Put Fert (small amount) up front then watch the V stage and give the corn fert with your Sprayer. Pays more, and you have the tool that will give you a better bu/ per Ac that will pay for the tine material and then some.
