You're right that's every little boys dream is to be able to play with equipment and move dirt. The troubling part is at what point did we grow up ? It shouldn't be considered a job if the Lord lets you wake up, gives you the health, and the means to do something. I have to keep reminding myself of that.
@lilredcummins

Tim, I've move thousands of yards of dirt from piles (a lot on track loaders) over my 69+ years and I have a few suggestions. 1, Never use the float position on the loader as it forces the front wheels off the ground, which causes loss of traction and you loose control over how deep you are digging. 2, Keep the bottom of the bucket in contact with the ground. Do not pitch the cutting edge too far down as you will create craters as you go forward. Pitch it down just enough to get the surface to cut, within the power limits of the tractor. 3, Maintain constant RPM when using the loader, as you will find it easier to control all functions and make it easier to consistently repeat the digging/pushing/dumping process. On my 1026R, I find 2300-2500 RPM to be efficient and cost effective. Less RPM reduces power, more RPM tends to use more fuel without a significant increase in work. Hope this doesn't come off as being preachy, just trying to share my knowledge and experience. BTW, Vinnie is an awesome tool and is worth its weight in gold.

You guys do such a great job describing and showing everything on your videos. You should consider about doing a tractor class or something like that for new tractor owners. Another thing I enjoy, you don't do videos to get attention or try to "push" to get viewers by crazy video titles or themes. Like some of the other landscaping and lawn care channels I watch. You pull in viewers by trying to make the videos about their interests or showing them how to do things. That's why I enjoy your channel so much as well from Neil Koch, and Mike Morgan. The three of you guys do a great job at your channels.

In my opinion the reason for a heavier machine is the packing effect every time the machine runs over the fill dirt. Personally I would spread say a foot of dirt then pack it, followed by another foot. It's very hard to pack 3 to 4 foot of dirt all at once. Given the way the dirt was dumped you did fine! Love you all videos!! VENTRAC is the most versatile machine ever made!

Remember Tim, The tractor loader is designed to lift and carry. Tractors in general are not designed to push like a dozer. I moved 3 tri-axle loads with my 1025 R. It did it, it may not have been happy doing it at times. When I was finished moving the top soil, I did a full service on the 1025R. All fluids and filters. I pushed the tractor to its limits and I was nearing the hours for service anyway.

Although you have three tractors plus Vinny, not eveyone has access to so many tractors if they are just homeowners. You did a good job of showing the advantages of the tractor you were using and what changes you would have made for the job you were doing. I have a 2008 CaseIH 24DXe subcompact tractor. It's major problem is it is too light for the work I've tried to do with it. As time has gone by, the amount of work I need it to do becomes less and less. Next year, I'll have a guy come in with his larger tractor and disc so he can level my yard. This will allow me to flood irrigate my pecan trees in a much more efficient manner. When he did my neighbors place, it only cost about $200.
@WetCoaster

When pushing with a loader, build yourself an even, stable "road". Then use a quarter of a bucket and work over gently. If it is easy pushing, take more. If it is too hard, take less of a bucket width. The flat path will help you from digging "steps".

My favorite type of projects, playing in the dirt. 😆 Loved the video. Looked like really fun project. I was reaching for a keyboard when you said 12 truckloads knowing that’s around 200 ton, and you were setting on Johnny 2. 😝 lol. I swore you were talking to me when said your probably wondering why I brought this tractor. 😂 lol I would have brought Johnny 5, if someone told me I was wanting to move 200 ton of dirt. I totally understood, once you explained it and I grasp the project once saw Vinny there too. I imagine Vinny and Johnny 5 are too large to fit on the trailer at the same time. Plus having R1s on the front of your Johnny 5 would no doubt rip up some lawn, visibility working up that close to a structure would have changed my mind too. I think your Johnny 2 needs traded off on a 4066R. Johnny 3 is the same size as 2038R and does everything a little easier or better then the 2038R. That’s the same thing I figured out having my 2038R and 3Rs at the same time. I had to make myself use the 2038R, that was until it got traded off on a 4R.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim Год назад
Yep. The only advantage of the 2R over 3R is ergonomics. The control layout is better. Do you find significant difference between 3R and 4R?
@jdfleetguy28
@jdfleetguy28 Год назад
@@TractorTimewithTim , oh yea, I think there is a substantial jump in power and capabilities between the 4R and 3R . I remember when I first got my 4066R, I had, had my 3Rs for a year or more and it was quite a noticeable jump. I have not made any changes in my tractor stable in over year, I think I finally may have my perfect Deere lineup, each significantly more capable then the other. 2025R, 3046R, 4066R, 5115M. Note: My 3,4,and 5 series are all cab models. I am not that familiar with the 3R open station ergonomics. I did own a 4044R open station at one point seemed comfortable, however I didn’t really care for the ROPS mounted rear SCV controls, that 4044R open station was what I had traded my 2038R for, and later the 4044R got traded back down to the subcompact 2025R .

That whine is why I bought my tractor with a shuttle shift transmission. That whine will cause hearing loss very quickly. A shuttle shift is less tiring to operate, I set my throttle speed and proper gear, then switch forward and back without touching the throttle; just barely using the brake pedal before each direction change. Shuttle shift is faster than hydrostat machinery

My opinion is that you would have a hard time using a rototiller as a power rake: maybe it would work to some degree. However John Deere does make a power rake for these tractors. Ventrac puts the power rake and other tools out front where it is easier to see what you are doing with them. Also in this case it may of been to steep for the John Deere tractor to go sideways where the Ventrac just slides downhill some.

@@jpjp3873 we used hot tar & then closed cell foam board. Worked great.

@@josephclark7163 Sounds good. Cheap insurance. Even just a layer of that dimpled plastic sheeting to stop the hydro pressure.

Sounds like the 'E' means economy, but what would 'R' stand for? Make a label for Vinny's dash to remind you about the weight transfer :)

@@danielmeyer403 no doubt! A new 3032E with FEL bucket and bush hog / rotary cutter cost me right at $20k in early 2018. I've been afraid to price a 3046R, which I think my next tractor will be, whenever that happens. (I used to say my next one would be a 4 series, but that might be getting too far up there money-wise.)

On the side of the concrete for the garage doors the dirt should stop about 8-10 inches below the grade of the concrete compact the dirt, then put down gravel, that dirt is gonna be nothing but a mess for vehicles going in and out of that garage, and honestly that concrete slab should have been poured a lot farther out away from the garage entrance.
