I have easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials "do it yourself" (DIY) videos to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers and zero turn mowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed whacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, zero turn mower, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

Looks like a Planned Obsolescence scheme to me. They have to know that leaving a liter of dirty oil every time will cause early internal engine wear that will eventually result in a ruined engine. That way they can sell more parts or a whole new small engine machine for anything that uses their "Easy Oil Change" System. That is until people realize what causes it and stops buying anything John Deere makes. Have they also lengthened the required oil change time, which would insure damage? John Deere used to mean Quality, but now it equates to very expensive Chinese crap. Shame on John Deere!

"I don't know why they did this." *IT'S FOR JUST ONE SIMPLE REASON: **_GREED_* _Everyone should research this topic (& prepare to get angry): John Deere Right to Repair_
@eosjoe565
@eosjoe565 Год назад
Research shows that the main reason they did this was to encourage owners to change the oil. Most folks don't change the oil at all - ever. The thinking with the Easy Change is that getting 75% fresh oil is better than getting 0% fresh oil. There are folks who either don't know how to do a conventional oil change or are just too lazy. This was an attempt to get those folks to do some maintenance. I put this in the same category as the B&S "Check and Add" system where they tell you the oil NEVER needs changed.
@AdmiralDG

The Briggs and Stratton Twin has a 2 Quart capacity with a standard type oil filter. The EZ Change filter holds .8 Quarts which increases total capacity to 90 ounces instead of 64. When you change the EZ Change Filter, you're changing about 30 percent of the volume. I have done this conversion dozens of times.. I have found that installing the drain tube and draining the oil first reduces the amount of spillage when removing the EZ Change adapter.
@WaltDorsey
@WaltDorsey 2 месяца назад
Agree - Do the drain tube side first... If you want almost no mess, drive the tires onto 2x4 wood blocks on the side opposite the drain plug side (tips the motor towards that side) and make a Drain Chute from cutting up an empty used milk jug to route the pit you spill when the plug it removed. Then doing the "filter side" will be almost mess free - just a few ounces into a rag.

I did this conversion last year. To ensure the nipple the filter screws onto does not back out, I used a little Loctite on the engine side. To minimize oil spillage when installing the drain tube, I siphoned out as much oil as I could through the fill tube and then raised mower a little on the drain side. I always keep a few cans of cheap brake cleaner in my garage, it is great for cleaning up residual oil spillage. Make sure there is a catch pan underneath.

Go to a JD dealer that sells lawn tractors and you will be told that their product is better because you can "change" the oil in 30 seconds without getting your hands dirty. That is their target market. Homeowners who don't want to drain or use an oil extractor and take used oil to recycle. The same homeowner who thinks it's ok to throw a quart of used oil into household garbage. I bought a hardly used E170 and did this same conversion a few months ago. The JD parts counterman acknowledged that every one of their customers who are DIYers has done the conversion.

I'm going to do this conversion on my E180 as it's due for maintenance now. To avoid the issues with the plastic cap on the pipe, I'm just going to leave the factory bolt there and then when I go to drain it, use my little oil filter drain funnel from my Harley. That way I don't risk losing that plastic cap and the little under filter funnel will direct the oil out over the frame and down into my drain pan. The filter conversion is excellent. I wondered how that would possibly get all the old oil from the motor and now your video shows it doesn't. Thanks for making this video!!!

Fantastic. I can see the idea of the easy/no mess changing of filter but leaving that much oil in and charging that much for the fancy filter seems criminal. I'm guessing they upped the filter change frequency so while you're not changing all the oil (and nothing in the sump/sludge/particles?), you're always adding fresh oil/additives, etc. to compensate. Too bad you can't unscrew just a filter from the easy change thing after removal, and replace that, then reinstall the easy change thing. Ideally, being able to add oil to the filter/assembly as well before re-installation on the engine. Next they'll be adding computer controlled engine that they'll force you to pay exorbitant prices to replace by factory trained mechanic when it should be repairable. Support right-to-repair!

John Deere tractors usually need expensive software and if a sensor fails the whole thing is broke. I got a used Kubota ZG20 i am about to re power with a 670 predator engine and rebuild the deck. Deere will screw farmers and Homeowners over which is why farmers are switching to Kubota, New Holland, Or rebuilding or buying back their parents or grandparents tractors that sat for years and years. Id take Kubota over John Deere all day long for mowers and equipment. Ive used many mowers and a couple of Tractors id say Kubota is the answer. I recomend Kubota to my customers buy once cry once. I was appalled to hear that they were $40 years ago! Now they're over $80!? Great video. The conversion is cheaper than that filter!

Sometimes I wonder what engineers are thinking. Thanks for the video, I’m going to write down these part numbers in case I ever run into one I want to change.

deere recognized that people who don't want to get hands dirty have fat wallets. they could use fat wallet to pay someone to change the oil.

Is this still common practice on new mowers or has JD seen the light ? Crazy amount of oil left in the engine.

That would be the last time I'd use those panels. I hope that's not on all their models. If it is then I won't buy one

Don’t a question I find hard for people to answer is for an oil change Mineral vs Semi Synthetic. Is it better to use Semi Synthetic rather than the Mineral Oil other than environment reasons? Note - Semi Synthetic Oil is a blend of 80% Mineral 20% Synthetic.😊

to be honest I'm not sure

@@donyboy73 thank you for your honesty. Price obviously higher especially with Full Synthetic Oils for bikes or cars.

I Just came across your video; I am looking to buy my first riding mower. I do like the John Deere S100-series of mowers. But John Deere is just like all the other companies out there, $80.00 for an oil change on a lawn mower REALLY? (JUST GREED). I'm sure John Deere's profit is more than enough, that they can do without milking the customer of $80.00 for a half-ass oil change.

I recommend John Deere with v=twin engine and a metal transmission
