Very good video and thanks for taking the time to explain as I was ignorant of how a solenoid mechanically functioned...now I know! I ordered one for myself last night as the one on my X165 is on the outs.
I want to thank you for showing me what could be wrong ,the solenoid or the starter? I put my finger on the solenoid , I felt a jump inside it but my motor won't start but heard a grinding sound but the motor won't start or turn over
You are very welcome! That could be ine of several problems. Your battery may be low/weak. It might have enough power to make the solenoid jump, but to start the engine It could also be loose or dirty connections to the starter. Or it could be a bad starter. Good luck with your repair, and thanks for watching and commenting!!
It could be. If the solenoid is completely locked up, then the metal pin doesn't move; hence, no click. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and your great question!
I have a l110 model and my starter solenoid had only 1 connector pin on old one only.one I could fine is a double can't find the other wore to connect to other pin cause I have the correct one from battery to new starter solenoid and one from starter tried to figure out the wiring on this thing and I'm at a loss
Not exactly sure what your dealing with but some thoughts. A solenoid is fairly simple; a positive and negative connection. One pin solenoid would imply that pin is the positive and the negative is achieved by the connection to the engine Two pins would be when the solenoid may not ground through the connection so the negative is supplied to one of the terminals. I hope that helps Good luck with your mower and thanks for watching and commenting!!
Will the new selenoid work if you just leave it hanging loose and not screwed or bolted down? Does it need to be grounded? I put a new selenoid in but it's a pain to get it back down in there and bolted in. My tractor will not start with the new selenoid but it will start if I jump start it.
Great question! My answer is that it does not need to be attached to the mower (grounded) to work. Take a look at the part of the video where I take the selinoid apart and show how it works. I would caution that it could bounce around and possibly make contact with the mower and cause all kinds of problems, so I would suggest you secure it somehow. The second part might indicate that your battery is low or bad. If you have a charger, let it run overnight and see if that helps. I believe that you can have them checked at auto parts stores (auto zone, advanced auto, etc) Hope that helps! And thanks for watching
