@TheSouthViewFarm~ THANK YOU for this video content! It's infinitely easier to learn how to remove the deck on the X540 by watching YOU do it! My parents own an X540 and my Dad had always done all the maintenance and repairs it needed over the years. (He was a Master Tool & Dye Maker at John Deere Plow Planter in Moline, IL for 31 years.) However, over the last 2 years his health has failed significantly, making it impossible for him to do any of those tasks. Last summer, I went through the X540 and changed the spark plugs, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, battery, removed & deep cleaned the radiator, replaced a headlamp & light and shop vacuumed out all the nooks and crannies of the engine where mice had drug in pieces of corn and tried to nest. I had NEVER done ANY of those things on my own..... But I guess all the years of watching my Dad work on cars, tractors, and engines in general, taught me everything I needed to do it successfully. I was so proud of myself! They hired a crew to mow their 5 acres the past few years as Dad is now 83 yrs old and my Mom is 79. However, my Mom uses the X540 with a small cargo trailer hitched on the back to drive the property and plant flowers, pick up dead tree limbs/sticks, carry the garbage, and do to the mailbox. I live about 600 miles away from them so I wanted the X540 to be reliable for her. Around Christmas time she mentioned that there was something wrong with the mower deck, it was collapsed on one side and she wasn't able to use the tractor anymore. I told her I would come home and fix it......but my Dad got it in his head that he could fix it. Apparently he was able to get it all disassembled (he can barely walk with a walker and has frequent falls, so don't ask me how he got up and down off the barn floor!). Needless to say, once it was disassembled, he was too weak and exhausted to recall how to reassemble it, so the deck and all the parts are still laying on the barn floor. I am going home for a visit in the next month and getting it all put back together again in on the top of my "To Do" list. At least now because of your video I have a better idea of how the deck is supposed to attach and detach, specifically on the X540!! Thank you for making this video! ~~Christy~~
I have a x534 with hydraulic lift deck and this is the video i searched for for hours. So for others with x534, because x534 videos are few and far between, ill keep typing x534 here so hopefully RU-vid search will bring other x534 owners here. Awesome video that applies to the deck on the x534 also!!
Nice job - done this for years with my 445 and it can be a challenge. Would love to have one of the drive over decks. BTW - you have a beautiful piece of property. Thanks hope to see your channel grow.
