John Denver was a national treasure. He had several hit songs (Annie's Song, Sunshine on My Shoulders, Country Road, Leaving on a Jet Plane etc). Unfortunately (and ironically), he died in an experimental plane crash near Monterrey, California USA in 1997. He was the pilot and solo occupant...
you all probably dont care but does any of you know a method to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid lost the password. I love any tricks you can give me.
@Baylor Benson thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
John Denver's voice is so pure! His live performances pretty much sound the same as his studio recordings. (You CANNOT say the same thing about most singers! :-) )
I was lucky enough to see Him in Concert twice around 75-76 both times on the 4th row from the stage which was not far off the floor and in the middle of the arena, I remember during a break he said “ we just heard from Colonel Parker and Elvis is coming too Dallas the place erupted it’s a great Memory thanks
Great great song....don't get me wrong, I Love This Song. I remember "Rocky Mountain High" growing up in the Midwest.....hearing that incredible melody going through my mind as I would fall asleep....please review "Rocky Mountain High".
It sounds like going on tour. The line, "Don't know when I'll be back again" would seem to suggest an open end date. The music business can be like that. Lynyrd Skynyrd (II) went out on a farewell tour last year with a list of dates and the list may still be growing. In any event, music is poetry. Give it your own meaning.
You are getting well into folk music now... Could I recommend a great Canadian folk singer? Great lyrics and story telling. Gordon Lightfoot and I might recommend "If you could read my Mind". Alternatively, I might also recommend Stan Rogers' Mary Ellen Carter, Make or Break Harbour, or Northwest Passage. All are about hard lives lived and fought for.
I've never heard this particular version of this song. Not the studio version. Different instrumentation and vocal phrasing than I'm used to. Still nice though. He had such a beautiful voice and was so heartfelt in his delivery. If you want a fun one to react to try the studio version of Grandmas Feather Bed.
It's actually a re-recording that John did for his 1973 Greatest Hits album. I like this more melancholy arrangement better than his first recording, which used the same, relatively uptempo arrangement that Peter, Paul, and Mary used on their version. I never thought the faster tempo suited the mood of the lyrics, so I think John made the right choice to slow it down on his second recording of the song.
