The band explained that this arrangement took months and months to hammer out. It paid off in gold, as this is as original take on this song as I can imagine.
Actually; They said it took 5 years to get the arrangement to where they were comfortable enough with it, that they felt as though they could record it. It was the song that their fans requested they cover, more than any other. So, when they decided they would do it, they said they wanted to make sure they got it *Right* before they released it. Being adopted as the state song of West Virginia, and a song that plays over the Stadium/Arena Speaker system at every West Virginia University Football/Basketball game ... Home Free performed this song Live for the first time, before the Album release, in Morgantown, West Virginia this past May.
One of the many things I love about Home Free is that you can understand each and every word that they sing and each feeling behind it. Each member has such versatility that they can continually surprise you as to how will lead each song. Love you Drama!! Keep up the Great work.
This one has been long requested by the home fries, but they held off until they had the arrangement just right. I can only imagine that John Denver would be pleased. His original was perfect for his time and HF made it new.
That's right ... 5 years in the making, and they did it justice. They first performed it Live in Morgantown West Virginia, about 3 months before the Album was released. Wish I could've been there. I saw them the night before, in Kalamazoo Michigan.
I am a huge John Denver fan and I believe if he were still alive he would standing and cheering at this version of his classic . HOME FREE DID THIS SO MUCH JUSTICE
GOOD MORNING from a mountain momma! Being from Wv (born and bred till I left home for college) I LOVED this arrangement! They made it a little more sultry and a little more pure at the same time. Something about this song just hits different when you are raised there.
I was not born or raised there but my dad was born and raised there. When I was younger, working and not disabled would go there for a month every other year. I visited my relatives but mostly for the scenery and the people who I love. Unfortunately all I can do now is watch youtube videos of West Virginia, but I miss West Virginia. This song made me crying just thinking of West Virginia.
At a concert, Tim said that this is the song that took years for them to perfect. I understand your falling in love with them all over again, this song gives me chills every time! The only one that gives me more chills more than this one is "How Great Thou Art", which you already did. I absolutely LOVE watching your reactions! You seemed to have a great time with this one! LOL!
I've heard Tim say they worked on this for years until they had an arrangement they thought did the song justice. Their producer, Darren Rust, is the mastermind behind this and quite a bit of their music. The man is a musical genius.
The ending of this song was like going to a religious revival. Loved it. BTW- I just wanted to tell you how much your reactions brighten my day. I could be in the crappiest mood, then I come here and one of your reactions, and suddenly the world becomes a much better place to be. So thank you for that.
Living in Colorado, John is a bit of hero. Home Free did a very good cover here. If you haven't yet, check out Seven Bridges Road...talk about harmonies!!
I grew up listening to John Denver, after listening to Home Free I think I like their version better!!! Love your free thinking!! Keep up the awesome reactions!! Wishing you many blessings!
The more I listen, the more I love and appreciate it ---- at 1st I was skeptical; seeing that they cut this!!! It's one of those songs, being West Virginian - A Mountaineer....... ya just don't mess with!!! But... Simply Amazing --- can't get any nearer to perfect than this! Did they do John Denver proud? You'd better believe they did, and then some. I'm a hardass when it comes to this type of song .... but they just...... just ... never cease to amaze me! I know I should know better! These guys are phenomenal.
Super moving isn't it? Slowing this down is incredible. I love all they do with this song. Crazy good arranging is what they all do best! Them and Darren Rust their producer know how to bring out the best in all the covers they do and show off all their incredible voices! Thanks again!
I just love those boys! 🥰😭🥰 Just so much talent! They deserve so much more recognition in the country music world than they receive. 😒 Oh and here's some sugar for ya! 💋😏💋😂
The best way I can describe Home Free music is "Smooooth." They always make me smile, even the more serious songs. Honey for my ears. Thank you for this.
Pure Magic. Absolutely gorgeous. And I will give it up for Home Free every damn time. They are talented, funny, generous, amazing young men. And may I say VERY TALL!!!
I agree with you 100% about Home Free’s cover of this is amazing!! I always liked John Denver, but this cover just makes me feel warm and cozy! The harmonies, the visual of the countryside, and those lead vocals that knock it out the park is astounding!! It’s just awesome!!
Home Free somehow always manages to stay true to the original with their covers while producing what amounts to a new creation. Wonderfully creative group of people, both the vocalists and those behind the scenes.
Home Free did a song called Country Harmony written by Tim Foust. The video kind of shows how the group came together. Brothers Chris Rupp & Adam Rupp (beatboxer extraordinaire) founded the group. Tenor Rob Lundquist & bass Tim Foust joined the brothers and after another high tenor didn't work out they found Austin Brown. When co-founder Chris Rupp decided to branch out on his own, velvet voiced baritone Adam Chance joined the group in about 2016. These guys are pure gold! Their laser precision vocals are unmatched in my book! I'm a Home Fry for life!
Perfection 🔥🔥🔥🔥Home Free making it better and Their Own! They took along time to get this the way they felt would do justice to John’s song; they released it when it was PERFECT!!! So Talented ALL!!!🙆🏻♀️🥰🔥😍✌🏽
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I LOVE your reactions man. Your sheer honesty shows just how much you love music regardless of genre. Love it.
West Virginia is approximately ten minutes or less from where I live. I was born in Huntington because it was the closest hospital that could handle my Momma, who was high-risk (we both nearly died). They sang this here in Ashland, KY, for the Dive Bar Saints World Tour. It was EPIC.
I have to agree- there are so many amazing covers and other songs by Home Free, but there is really something about this particular one that gets me every time I hear it. It is such an amazing rendition! And I ask myself: Does Home Free REALLY know-- all of the group members, how well they nailed this song!? I mean, I know they probably get told by us fans constantly how great they are, and how meaningful their music is to us, but this song right here, it is in a category that is special.
Home free has made it their mission to take good songs by good artists and making them unique to Home free and great pieces of music. Their voices compliment each other to such a degree that few if any artist can measure up.
Well, I am blown away with this arrangement !!!! I can see why they were so careful and that it had to be just perfect, well they did it !! An Amazing take on a song that almost everyone knows. These guys are superb, so very talented, every single one of them and such nice guys too. Wonderful reaction, credit where credit is due !!! Thanks for all the Home Free reaction !!
Love your reactions Thank you ! Your reactions are the exactly what I am thinking most time -yes Home free's arrangements are amazing and Adam's talents carrying the beat (in most their songs actually) is phenomenal.
Nothing crazy about it. I fall in love every time I hear them :) This is a song I really wish my grandmother could have heard them do. She and grandpa were always playing it when I was little.
I had to go back and watch that first reaction. The look on your face when you first heard that harmony. We knew then we had a new Home Fry!! This has been a fun journey so far, looking forward to seeing where it leads us next. :)
You are such a Home Fry! Have you been to see them live yet. If not, DO IT! I saw them in Atlanta on 12/4 and they were awesome! As you like to say, “Come on now!” :-)
One of my Mom's favorite songs. This is bittersweet. The guys were fantastic as always but they sure made me homesick for a place I've never been before. But it's all good bc I'm going to see her again soon in Heaven. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that she's there waiting for me!
Love this arrangement of the song It just blows my mind to think these 2 songs are together but nothing alike Home free did a fantastic job with these song
Love that crescendo at 4:08!! 😊 Ya know, this was their most requested cover, but I was not thrilled. I kept thinking, please don't! I loved John Denver & I loved the song.... the first "1000x" I heard it!! Ugh! I got so sick of it cuz it was played too death! Then, the guys (after "2 yrs" of sculpting it), finally released it & I fell in love with it all over again! Only HF can do that for me; take a song I grew to hate, & make me love it all over again!! Beautifully done! Thx, Drama. Very happy you did this one.
With all the Home Fries around, not much need to throw Home Free suggestions your way, but I have got to put a couple in front of you: 1) My favorite original song from the new CD is "Catch Me If You Can." The cute video has nothing to do with the song, so instead, here it is live from the Paste studio stage: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M6pqz8AbDyM.html 2) Most goose bumps per video record was set when Peter Hollens joined them for "Amazing Grace.: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7n145-J8ejg.html 3) One I can''t believe you've already done is Tim's oughta be classic, "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1L8zGfKDCCY.html
I love your Home Free reactions.... keep them coming! Have you ever listened to Lennon and Maisy? Two sisters who sing like angels. Very young... very talented. Try one of their earliest ones called “ that’s what’s up”. You’ll get hooked... thanks again for all your reactions!
Their version is awesome! I was & still am a Big John Denver fan. I have heard other covers of this song that really sucked 😂. This one was better than I really expected! Thanks for your reaction!
Love their take on the song! I just got back from a road trip, and the Home Free albums were my primary music in the car. This one had me singing along with them (or at least trying to fake the bass harmony).
