His keyboardist David Hirschfelder is an academy award nominated composer. He did the arrangements for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concerts, and composed the music for the Sydney 2000 Olympics opening ceremony. A very talented guy.
Absolutely love his musicianship, have always admired him. Wonder if Ray Thislethwaite from Thirsty Merc ever got any training from him? Their styles sound very similar… both brilliant at what they do!
Charlie, you are a beautiful human. Thank you for appreciating our amazing John Farnham. I've been to many of his concerts and the videos really reflect how brilliant they are. Your joy for great music, your smile, your inner joy, it's all infectious. So thank you for being a bright light in this world. Much love to you from Australia xx
As an Aussie, this makes me sooooo emotional. This particular rendition is just absolutely mind boggling at how incredible it is. I can’t believe how amazing the WHOLE performance is……just 😮❤
I was a little disapointed when i watched the documentary movie. No itervju with lindsey or lisa and several other band members , that was strange cosidering 30 years of playing together.
@@kennykarlsson6691 Yeah, there was a beautiful little interview of Lindsay Venetta and Lisa expressing their opinions of John here at www.nfsa.gov.au/collection/curated/lisa-lindsay-and-venetta-working-john-farnham
David Hersfelder is one of the reasons John's songs were so beauatifully crafted. He also was responsible for the Melbourne Symphony Orchastra arraingements. A truely taleted man know being recognised by fillm makers. John is The Voice but he always had the best backing bads and singers. Most of them where with him thruoughout his long career. Loyalty to John because he was loyal to them and appreciative of their skills.
I had the pleasure of meeting David Herschfelder back in the 80s when he conducted a music workshop. He was very down to earth and humble. His talent blew me away.
I love your reactions, you don't just give your opinion on his voice, the performance or the band, but also the message. So many of John's songs have a message that is so valid in today's society in every country around the world . Thankyou again for making my 4am coffee a lot more enjoyable. 👍👍👍❤️🇦🇺
Another great reaction to our John Farnham. Your channel is one of only a few that are giving John so much support and supporting his great voice and music. I think John has one of if not the greatest voice of all time. His range, mic control, breath support, belting range are all amazing and sometimes seem endless, I don’t know how he hasn’t blown his voice out with some of those raspy, growing, high belts that he does like in “when the war is over”. You have featured John a lot on this channel as have a couple of other reaction channels and I thank you for helping to get John’s wonderful music out to people who haven’t yet had the pleasure and to keep his music alive. Keep up the great work.
I'm a British born Australian🇦🇺 I grew up with john farnhams music .I have family in England whom have never heard of him I feel it's tragic you've missed out on this extraordinary talent but I feel so blessed that I have .❤❤❤
Yes it's a shame that the world missed out hearing, in my opinion, the best there is an absolute legend. I'm grateful that I grew up listening to him here in New Zealand.
Phil Buckle with the short fuzzy ponytail on guitar... and Irwin Thomas with the long brown hair on guitar in the red shirt (phew! 🤣)... Formed a duo called Southern Sons. It's worth checking them out. Irsy sounds so much like John vocally.
Charley, I had no problem with the lyrics but then I know the song and love it. John is John, and there is no other like him. Love the way he waves to individual people in the audience and bends down and stretches to accept flowers and cards while still belting out the lyrics and maintaining perfect pitch while he does it. I would have thought that was a physical impossibility !!!
Hi Charlie ... your appreciation of John Farnham puts me in tears every time I see your reaction to his videos. As a singer who just turned 70, I was influenced by Steve Marriot, Paul Rodgers, and Robert Plant ... but there is only one John Farnham .... I've been to more of his shows than I can count. In Australia he is an icon. Loved by four generations. Nobody ... n.o.b.o.d.y ... sings like John Farnham. He has more heart and soul in his little finger than most other singers. And he is so humble you would not believe it.
Thanks Charlie, I just love all your Farnsey reactions mate. I’m so glad you dived into this rabbit hole many moons ago! Thanks Charlie, keep smiling mate!
We have been so lucky to have John here entertaining us for all this time…at least he seems to be cancer free now. Praying that he will be able to do it again…love him a lot ❤
John's songs are generally about the state of our world and gravitate towards loving one and another, being kind, looking after each other and as we all know that is how the G.O.A.T is in life himself. So yes Charlie it is a pity that people focus on stupid little things instead of fixing the huge wrongs going on in our world. You can tell this icon cares about others by the way he puts emotion into his singing, how he loves his band, he loves his fans and how he interacts with the crowd in his live performances. But then there's the singing for charity he's done over the years, you can also see how much he cares about others during interviews. This is why this legend is loved throughout Australia & New Zealand, just a kind, caring, genuine bloke.
Age of Reason is my favourite Farnham song. The instrumentation just sparkles, and the lyrics by husband and wife team Todd Hunter & Johanna Piggot are just as relevant now as they were in the 80s. I think he held back a bit in this performance; the song has a few high parts that he didn't attempt.
Age Of Reason is one of my favourite John Farnham songs . Age Of Reason is John’s second most successful single after You’re The Voice and it was his last number 1 song in 1988 . Age Of Reason was written by Todd Hunter and his wife Johanna Pigott after John made them a request to write him a song . Todd Hunter is from New Zealand formed but Australian based band Dragon while Todd Hunter’s wife Australian Johanna Pigott Age Of Reason was first number 1 song on the Australian charts written by Australian female songwriter . John apparently still has the original demo with with original Dragon lead singer Mark Hunter singing Age Of Reason . Well Mark Hunter didn’t like the song and was even reluctant to record the demo . Mark Hunter agreed that Age Of Reason shouldn’t be a Dragon song and should be given to John Farnham.
Hirschfelder is Australia's greatist keyboardist (and more). I saw him live a long time ago and he did this incredible run up and down and all over the keyboard with one hand while having a drink with the other hand. I'm pretty sure he was just showing off a little!
He's a legend and a very special human being. Love him. The shirt he's wearing reminded me that he loves his horses and is a western rider/breeder, Cutting horses, American style. I have watched him ride at Tamworth He has many amazing facets. His songs more appropriate now than ever. 🇦🇺🇦🇺 Get well John, stay well, we all need you in the world. ❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks for another great reaction! You should check out the version with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as well - it's the opening song of the show, the orchestra really adds something to it, and David Hirschfelder's solo in that one is great as well, and also on a grand piano, which adds that extra bit of epicness :)
Hi Charlie Smith. I don't have the Internet so asking for reactions isn't that easy. If you read this - how about See the Banners Fall? And towards the very end of the song - one of his fans hurls a package to him, brilliant aim, right into his hand. And John looked so surprised. Your Reactions? Anything and everything, just love the man, love the voice. If the day is bothersome - play one of his concert videos. David hirschfelder, keyboard player extraordinaire, film score Shine, etc, and BAFTA winner, , and he arranged all the music for this track, Age of reason . All his band and backing singers have big talent and musical pedigrees. 15.11.23. UK. E❤
Not one of my favorites but his voice and range are amazing and his breathing while running up and down on stage while holding a note shows how good he is. Never out of breath. Just brilliant !
All respect to you, Charlie, for your great channel and all love to you because you see the greatness of John Farnham, like the whole population of Australia. He is the music Wizard of Oz. ❤
I like this version better.. probably 'cos I was there ;-) Plus the sound clarity is better. From The Princes Trust Concert 1989 at the NEC in Brum. Level 42 are the house band and the LSO lending their support. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NIu1Zm5OoEA.html
I have never missed a John Farnham concert as he is an incredible singer, performer, and down to earth decent human. John is known for his amazing enunciation, so I was surprised you were struggling with the lyrics. Great reaction to John's incredible voice.
Oh its not to do with his enunciation. I just naturally tune into the music more than I do the words of a song. I have experience and training in production and also playing multiple instruments too so that's probably why. Doesn't matter what song it is or who is singing, I always struggle to make out the lyrics. It's like my brain just isn't tuned that way haha
One detail I've spotted..... When John goes to the edge of the stage to touch & shake hands with some of the girls there's no pushing or shoving.....it's like if you're lucky then you're lucky & the girls next to her is happy to just be close.......no crush.
Apparently at one concert, the security was being a bit rabid, stopping people from getting near the stage. John said ... Chill out, they won't hurt me.
Charlie please remove whatever is in the right hand corner in your room. It blocks so much of the video. Look at what we see on RU-vid and you will know what I mean. It is annoying. You are terrific and I love your ractions but that screen needs cleaning up.
This song is about the New Age of Aquarius , of which we are on the cusp of and which will last for approximately 2,000 years. Aquarius is an air sign, concerned with the mental evolution of consciousness and is group focused, through individual awareness and responsibility, to create a better world. The Second Coming of Christ will herald it in and He may have a different role to play in the world other than with religion ! The Aquarius symbol/glyph is that of waves (of communication). This song is another of John's gifts to us concerning the greater good for the world. The song's composers, Todd Hunter and Johanna Piggot, stated that they felt that another hand was writing this song. John's talent and delivery is wonderful. I love the man's Soul !
