John is now 72. I think Covid has already finished his career. You have to see him live to see how great he is in almost any genre of singing. He had number one albums in five consecutive decades. You need to watch him sing Help with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
I had the privilege of meeting Johnny Farnham at Brisbane Airport in 2000. I was in the Army, in uniform on my way Overseas. I went over to just say G'day and shake his hand (Very nervously I might add!). Instead of me ranting about how much I adored growing up with his music, he stopped & spent 5min telling me HE was honored to meet ME? and proceeded to wish me luck & generally made it about myself & what me & fellow Soldiers were doing! What a class act, true blue Ozzie Legend!
I can understand how you felt David - he would have been genuine with his respect for you - he's always been a nice guy - I had a photo taken with him at the Warana parade in 1969 after he won King of Pop when he was really young- at the time I was the most recent 'Belle of Ball' Brisbane City Council recipient - the previous 4 years recipients were there too but I got to cuddle in next to him for the photo shoot 😂- he was such a shy guy back then - very humble- still have the photo and my 'Belle' sash - great memories 👍🏿
@@mariagrant3706 Just plain Beautiful mate. So blessed to have that memory to treasure forever. In these modern days of Auto-tune and Image driven Musicians we'll never see or hear the likes of him again..... Luckily, his Music will live on in the hearts of all true Blue Australians. Thankyou for sharing your story, it made my day!
I also met John Farnham at an airport...Sydney this time. I was coming out of a toilet and he was running in to be able to relieve himself AND make the flight call. I opened the door and bowled him over. He got up and apologized. He was on his way to a Carols by Candlelight (early 70's). I saw him on the flight, and apologized back, and he kicked his manager out of his seat, sent him to my seat, and we chatted for an hour or so. A genuine down-to-earth legend.
They were having fun. All adored in Australia. Blonde- John Farnham. Dark haired- Jimmy Barnes. Younger guitarist and singer- Mark Lisotte or Johnny Diesel as he was once known.
Jimmy Barnes was a previous bad boy of Aussie Rock in a band called Cold Chisel. They are one fanfreakingtastic band! The guy playing the guitar is Johnny Diesel ( real name Mark Lazot) who also had a band called Johnny Diesel and the injectors and is Jimmy's brother in law. John was the good boy of Aussie music also. I have had the pleasure of being around both John and Jimmy and they are truly amazing men with so much knowledge to share. It will be a dark day in Australia if we ever lose.any of these artists.
all these guys came to Australia at about 5 years old - John from Dagenham near London, Jimmy from Glascow, Diesel from Massachusetts. I guess with their parents musical experiences they brought together music from a lot of genres, then added an Aussie touch.
John Farnham, in his 70’s, STILL blows. His voice is genuinely otherworldly, and he is absolute God Tier of Aussie music. Jimmy Barnes is a legend too, but there’s truly no one, befor or since, like Farnsey. Shout out to baby Diesel on the guitar and harmonies too, brb in my early teen musician girl feelings 😝
John and Jimmy are great mates and they did this song based purely on that mateship. The guitarist (Deisel) and Jimmy Barnes are brothers in law. The show they performed this on was a live Saturday night show called Hey Hey it's Saturday, which was pretty much an anything goes show, with live music and puppets that said things they'd never get away with today. Good times!
Even now, 40 years after having spent the latter part of my teens & the early part of my adulthood listening to & seeing these two Australian music legends live on numerous occasions they still blow me away. Makes me proud to be Australian.
John was always amazed and happy when the audience joined in and took over the first verse. The icon of Australia. Wow and he notes he could reach. Love him
Three absolute Aussie Legends right there, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes and the third being that guitarist Johnny Diesel (actually an american born Mark Lizotte, who made his career in Australia and is considered one of the greats) All three of these guys have sung and played with other world great Singers who are also great fans of these three and are well known world over, despite only having careers almost solely in Australia.
Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham are bloody good mates, and Mark Lizotte ( known in this era as Johnny Diesel) is not only great friends with both ... But also Jimmy Barnes's Brother In Law. Jimmy is a Scot import but HES AN ADELAIDE BOY! John is from England BUT HES A MELBOURNE BOY And Mark is a Massachusetts import BUT HES A PERTH BOY.. three great Aussies and all legends in their own rights
John Farnham (the blonde dude) is Australia's best ever pop singer, lauded by the likes of Celine Dion, Tom Jones, Quincy Jones and Freddie Mercury. He's been performing since the 1960s and is still singing in his 70s! Superb voice with outstanding vocal range. Jimmy Barnes has a different - more rock - voice but such an icon in Aussie music. Not quite as successful as John, but still wildly loved by Aussies with iconic hits. When these two got together on this, it was a superb mix of their voices but you can see not only their talent but their passion and joy for music. This was live too. What you heard is what they do. Very proud of our Aussie boys (even though they were both born in the UK and moved to Australia as young children with very different backgrounds).
He was also loved by John Lennon. John Lennon stated that John's version of Help was how he had intended on the song being released and even approved the song prior to his tragic death.
You can just see the love that John and Jim have for each other and this song. This is what a collab is truly about - respect! Go Aussies - you rock our world - continually!
Hi matie just started watching your reactions. John Farnham's notes are brilliant. John's mate Jimmy Barnes is also great the guitarist Diesel is Jimmy's brother-in-law. These three are brilliant in their own right and so special together. Please look up more they are so talented, nice, kind and caring of others.
John (Johnny) Farnham is one of the top vocalist world-wide. Australian, teenage idol heart-throb, sang with Little River Band, went on for a masterful solo career thereafter. Greatest personality anywhere!
One of the golden eras of Australian music. The sound studios were filled to the roof with world class engineers. Artists rose straight to top of the world. One of the most underestimated music countries by the USA! The crews, sound systems and venues used to blow them away. Came expecting hick towns - found Sydney, Melbourne etc gol gold gold! That was the everyday sound for us!
Funny you say that ain;t happenin with Covid. I live in Melbourne Australia and during the "lockdowns" we've had here, Jimmy Barnes (who is still going strong) and his extended family, have been keeping people entertained by doing RU-vid singing sessions from their family home. Both Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham are icons here in Australia...Jimmy also was in a band called Cold Chisel, which you should take a listen to. The guitarist i this clip is Jimmy's brother in law "Diesel", who is also a well known performer here. You need to check out some more Aussie music.
I watched Jimmy Barnes and family, wife, children and grandchildren, as u know on Facebook every night during covid , and he never charged a penny. We even got Jimmy cooking and gardening lessons too - he’s an absolutely wonderful man, and so funny. We sure are lucky to have Jimmy and the Jane Barns Band Lol, who kept us all entertained during covid 👍
Rick aren’t you glad and proud Americans and other nationalities are finally hearing our wonderful Aussie talent we’ve had here for years, thanks to RU-vid
@@rickandersen2284 absolutely, but I belong to an international music group. I post John or any Australian music they don’t know, they won’t listen, aren’t interested . They know Helen Ready, Olivia, LRB to name a few. If they haven’t heard of them, that I post, a few likes rarely, one comment of 2 words every few months and that’s it.
@@rickandersen2284 I can tell you a a definite Farnham Fan. You may have heard this, I never have, found it the other day and just posted in Farnham group I belong to . ‘Land Of The Southern Cross’ Do you know it?
The guitarist is Johnny Diesel & he was a star himself for a while. The show, Hey, Hey It's Saturday was just one of the best shows to ever come from Australia.
Am not going to state the obvious, we aussies laugh when people talk about the best singers in the world and don't include these gentlemen. I hope you do more reactions of these men. Choose anything because it is ALL good.
Just 2 good mates having fun singing together with Diesel on guitar. And to think that America missed out on this talent because they couldn’t pigeon hole their voices.
I highly recommend listening to "you're the Voice' by John Farnham, If you react to any live version I am convinced no-one could not love the song and performance.
Just know ... for every talent on Aussie TV there were 900 comparable acts somewhere in a pub every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. Music is a rich vein in Australia, but Covid-19 has decimated the industry and our government is indifferent at best. The likes of Farnsey and Barnsey are obviously legends in Australia and probably financially stable by now (Aussie music industry is measured in $1000's, not $1,000,000's) but right now almost nobody is working outside their home studio. $0.02
Have you listened to John's rendition of 'Help'? Melbourne Music Bowl version is the best IMO. And I loved seeing the sheer joy and incredulity in your eyes when you were experiencing this! Not bad, eh!
Ohh, a different version of this song is on one of my top all time movies, Baby Driver! If anyone hasn't seen it, the soundtrack is KILLER! Music is almost a character of its own in the movie, so gooood.
The blonde is John Farnham, dark hair Jimmy Barnes [legend in Oz] and the guitarist is Johnny Diesel as he called himself then [have a look at his "Tip of my Tongue" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ePWpolxEKiw.html ] also so many songs that are legend in Australia by the main two - as we say here "do yourself a favour"................ have a listen. Oh yes Diesel and Jimmy Barnes are married to Sisters.
